here’s what’s happening in the philippines.
[as of july 4, 2020, 1:07 pm, PH standard time].
despite being literally in the middle of a pandemic, our government has chosen to prioritize silencing any and all forms of dissent rather than flattening the curve.
president duterte has signed the anti-terror bill into law despite several protests from lawyers, lawmakers, grassroots movements, and ordinary philippine citizens. this law is unconstitutional. it clearly violates several of our constitutional rights. this law would only legitimize warrantless arrests, illegal detention, wiretapping/bugging without the person knowing, etc.
anything you do can be interpreted as “anti-government” and an “act of terrorism,” which can lead to your arrest. even just posting a meme can send you to prison.
while it’s already been signed, there are still fifteen days before the law takes effect. which means there is still hope.
you can find out everything you need to know about the terror law here: https://junkterrorbill.carrd.co/
you can also sign this petition that says the law is unconstitutional: http://chng.it/KrbC9dGLdv
please, please join us as we speak out against this because our government is forcibly silencing us. WE NEED YOUR HELP. OUR HUMAN RIGHTS ARE BEING TAKEN FROM US. #JUNKTERRORLAWNOW
