p.s. hi hi, this is my first fic that've uploaded in a while ! I wrote this in 2018 since I was really really into cyzj (Chao Yin Zhan Ji - The Collaboration a show that Minghao and Junhui was on) and this is where I fell deeply in love with Jun and Yanan and their friendship. I've made some changes and I hope you guys can enjoy!!
it’s another interesting day in Junhao’s apartment
because Jun is groaning in the next room over from Minghao
“Junhui shut up or I’ll kick you out of this apartment”
for some odd reasons our lovely, sweet boy Wen Junhui always get rejected when he confesses to someone
he can’t even count the amount of times he’s been turned down for the past 22 years of his life
every time he finds the courage to confess he just,,,
*sounds of broken glass*
yeah that’s Jun’s heart shattering
and then Minghao has to be by Jun’s side to pick up all the broken pieces and help him super glue each piece back together
insert cartoon mini!hao with a broom and dust pan sweeping by cartoon mini!jun’s side who’s currently sobbing
last night the same thing happened again.
Jun came home
curled up on the couch and sobbed his heart out
while Minghao goes through his checklist of comforting Jun:
patting him
telling him it’s fine
none of it s your fault
making him drink water to calm down
once Jun’s sobs dies down Minghao led his big baby roommate back to his room and tell him to sleep all the thoughts away
today Minghao’s shift at the coffee shop starts a bit later than usual
which just so happens to be the same time when Jun has to go to work
Minghao knocks on Jun’s door
who is still groaning smh
“hey you gotta get up so you can pay rent. come on now or I’m barging into your room”
silence.
“alright I’m coming in, you better not be naked in there”
Minghao turns the handle and pushes the door into Jun’s room
he just sees a blanket ball on top of Jun’s bed
aka there’s a jun holding the structural integrity of the ball
Minghao shakes the blanket ball
“Jun get up you have work later”
“hm”
well that’s the first word other noise Xu Minghao has heard from this boy today
“aren’t you excited to see all your kids later?”
(*note: jun works at a pet shop, and all the pets in the shop are his babies!)
finally Jun peeks out from his blankets
Minghao sighed,
thank god you’re not dead
he sits on the side of Jun’s bed and pats where he thinks his shoulder is(?)
“I know you’re still upset about last night but hey let me tell you what I read earlier”
“Minghao all you read are fictions”
“Junhui you don’t even read”
Hao quickly shuffles to his room and ran back to where he was in Jun’s room
he held the book up to show blanket ball!Jun who’s still lying in bed
“1231 Ways to Find your Soulmate”
Jun just looks back at Minghao and the book
“huh, so you read fiction and guide books”
*whack*
[Minghao: 1]
[Junhui: 0]
“no dumbass I read BOOKS”
“anyways, I was reading and I found one of the experiences here that’s kinda similar to you”
Minghao flips to the page he was talking about and made jun sit up to read it
“Section 1025: Fate Guidance”
“Hao this is stupid all soulmates are based on fate”
“just read”
“Explanation: You’ll not be able to find your soulmate until you get some discourages. Also known as getting rejected. But this is a good sign because it is fate guiding you, making you skip all the unnecessary heartbreaks from the relationship, in order for you to find your true soulmate.”
now Jun is getting intrigued
and more comforted
since this naive boy has never really learned about the concept of soulmates
or at least other ways to find them besides the tattoo way
smh all those fanfics
which Minghao said it isn’t possible because nobody is born with tattoos unless it’s birth marks
but them fanfic dont write it that way HMMMMM
“hey Minghao”
“yeah?”
“do you wanna go out with me?”
Minghao.exe has stopped functioning.
“um no?”
“okay I just wanna test this out”
Minghao is literally trying to hold back his urge to whack jun with the book AGAIN
he snatched his book from Jun and walk out of his room
“by the way you probably have 15 mins to get ready for work and to eat breakfast before you’re late”
now you see a wild Jun is running around the house
“also I cant pick you up from work tonight, I’m gonna be meeting up with my friend so get your own ride”
and with that Xu Minghao has left the chaotic Jun running around the house
don’t worry Jun got to work on time, he loves his job so much he would never be late
also he just doesn’t wanna get fired because bro does need to pay rent
then the night rolls around,,
Minghao is out at dinner with his good friend from high school, Yanan
even though they live in the same city they never meet up often since they are both busy with their lives and full time jobs
“so pizza boy what’s up with you these days”
ah yes
Yanan. is. a. pizza. boy.
he usually does deliveries because the pizza store thought “hey we need a good looking and good working fella to deliver pizza so maybe costumers will buy from us more. oh Yanan you’re perfect for this position”
and Yanan uses his pizza delivery boy advantage to maybe encounter and meet his potential partner…
“you know just delivering pizza as usual, or be the cashier when I’m not on delivery. hey lemme tell you about this really pretty-“
“Yanan this better be the same person you talked about last time”
um yeah
Yanan also has this thing where he changes the person he’s interested really fast
if he gets a good vibe, it is a potential!
Yanan’s roster can probably wrap around the earth three times
he could be called as a player but he’s never really dated any of his interests
“uhhh, what if it’s not?”
“Yanan man you really gotta give some more thoughts into your relationships. you can’t always just have a crush on someone just by their looks or just vibes after you spoke with them for 10 mins”
“well I mean I do want to make a commitment one day but I just can’t help myself”
and right as he said that he’s eyeing some who just walked pass by their table
Minghao sighs.
“and that’s exactly what i’m saying. dude do you not believe in soulmates?”
Yanan shook his head
to Yanan, soulmates are like myths or fairy tales
it can be true, but it’s obvious it’s made up
once again Xu Minghao whips out his book that he showed his roommate this morning
and he flips to a certain page
“read this”
“Way 610: Selective"
"Explanation: You need to be careful with who you make commitments with. If they are not the one, you’ve lost your chance of finding your real soulmate. If they are the one, it should be an instant click.”
Yanan looks up from the book
“so? you understand it now?”
“Minghao this doesn’t apply to me alright? this book is for everyone, how would you know this one is my way of finding soulmates? also bro why do you carry a textbook around you?”
Minghao glares.
“alright alright, but i’m just telling you to be careful and not to make the wrong choice”
with that they continue on with their dinner and flipped the subject over
for the next couple of days everything went on as usual for all the boys, they went to work, take care of their personal chores. rinse and repeat.
well to Yanan there was something out of the ordinary for him
he was sitting on his living room floor
“You need to be careful with who you make commitments with.”
of course at his job he was doing what he normally does, making deliveries, checking eyeing out who he could make a potential commitment with
but ever since that night
he’s been thinking about that line from Minghao’s book and making him feel uneasy?
I’m just overthinking this, yanan thought
he got up to make himself some dinner and watch tv to clear his mind away
the next day went on as normal, but Minghao needed to stay and close the shop
so Jun went home first and he changed into his pajamas instantly
then he looked around the kitchen for anything that can be dinner worthy
ramen? just ate that last night.
salad? nah that’s minghao’s grass.
spaghetti? oops we ran out of sauce.
sandwich? nope not in the mood for it.
basically jun concludes his kitchen status as:
[no food]
he looked on the fridge door filled with restaurant menus and flyers, hopefully finding something that can be delivered
and the first thing that caught his eyes was the the local pizza store flyer
“well guess you it is”
then Jun called the number and ordered a large pepperoni pizza
not that he was gonna share with Minghao or anything-
but large pizza it is
he slumped on the couch playing on his phone, waiting for his pizza and Minghao
15 mins later, the door bell ring
which made Jun rolled off of the couch
yes he literally rolled off of the couch
because:
1. no one ever comes over so the doorbell isn’t in frequent use
2. the doorbell sound is scary when you’re alone in a SILENT house
3. he forgot the money
after grabbing his wallet from his room he shuffled to the front door and opened it
there,,,,,
in front of Jun is this beautiful, has an extremely nice smile, flawless pizza boy
named Yanan,, because you know, name tags
while Yanan is in front of this handsome, even though he’s in pajamas pants, stunning boy
named,,,,, well he kinda forgot the order receipt was in his pocket
“damn”
smh nice one Junhui
“I-I’m sorry?”
“oh, uhhh,,,, I’m just surprised at how big the pizza is,,,”
and by now Yanan is giggling
yes Jun, you made a smooth move
“yeah the box might make the pizza seem extremely big, but the sizes of our large pizzas are all 16 inch!”
“oh wow I didn’t even know that, guess you just learn something new everyday huh?”
pizza boy Yanan nodded, and kinda kept his gaze on Jun for awhile
since Jun was also looking at the other boy
basically they created an awkward atmosphere but none of them can’t feel it?????
finally Yanan was the first to snap back to reality
(the hot pizza box was getting to him)
“oh the pizza will be $16.64”
Jun pulled out $30 and told Yanan to keep the change
yes Jun just gave a tip that’s almost the same amount as his food
which wasn’t a problem because that pizza boy was fine
so is the pizza
but mostly it’s because of his pizza delivery boy
after Yanan has gone out of the apartment he felt that his heart was basically racing out of his chest
but he wasn’t even running??
Yanan shook his head to clear his mind and continued on with his work
as Yanan continued to make deliveries, he couldn’t get the image of the boy he saw earlier out of his mind
later when Minghao came back home he just sees Junhui lying on the couch hugging a giant pizza box
“you good?”
“yeah”
“lemme guess you ate that whole box of pizza?”
“nope, I haven’t ate a slice yet”
and then Jun peeks into the box
“Wen Junhui what the hell are you doing hugging a FULL pizza box”
“hey Minghao can we order pizza more often”
Minghao just glares at jun for couple of seconds and walked into his room to change into his lounge clothes
10 mins later, Minghao walked out of his room and he sees Jun still hugging that box of pizza
“dude I’m gonna eat that pizza if you aren’t gonna eat it”
“no”
huh ???????
Minghao is so confused on why Jun would buy a whole large pizza and not eat it
[thughao activates]
*snatch*
“I’m putting this on the kitchen table”
now Jun is pouting on the couch after he lost his pizza box
he was about to get up and get a slice of pizza but suddenly he felt his phone buzz in his pocket
Text from [Unknown Number]:
Hey
This is Yanan
You know that pizza boy from earlier
I’m sorry I forgot to give you your receipt earlier
Sorry if this was weird
I’ll show myself out
Jun is actually going to melt at this point
he just looks at his phone in disbelief
damn that cute pizza boy texted me
then he sees the texting bubbles again from Yanan
Okay I’m back to say that I just wanted to chat with you a little more
Oh, you read my messages already
smh Junhui you forgot you had read receipts on
UGHHHHH now I’m sorry for spamming you
with his shaky fingers Jun finally typed back a response to Yanan
no you’re fine!!
I just couldn’t text back because I was eating a slice of pizza
I was thinking about I wanted to chat with you more as well!
in reality Wen Junhui is: [panicking on the inside]
with that Jun literally stood in the middle of the living room with blushed cheeks for half an hour texting Yanan
Minghao: if you don’t come over any time soon I'm taking your pizza and feeding it to the squirrels in the neighborhood
yes Minghao is in the corner watching this mess who was crying his heart out last week but now he’s smiling like an idiot
also yes Jun eventually did get a slice of pizza
for the next couple of weeks Jun and Yanan just been texting back and forth and getting to know each other better
and man
did they fall more deeply in love with each other
but because their schedules never lines up
since that night when Jun ordered pizza they didn’t get to see each again
and after that since Minghao kinda banned Jun from having pizza again
(Minghao: we spent 3 nights finishing all that pizza, and Jun barely ate any!! AND HE ORDERED IT!)
also because Minghao promotes that healthy lifestyle !!
so one night Minghao and Yanan got together again for dinner
they were just making small talks
also Hao is once again nagging Yanan about the soulmates thing again
and suddenly Yanan just goes
Yanan: hey can I tell you something
Minghao: sure
Yanan: I’m kinda talking to someone right now
Minghao: ooh really, what’s their name? *taking a sip of his water*
Yanan: his name is Jun
Minghao: *chokes* wHAT.
Yanan: I’m talking to a guy named Jun, what’s wrong with that?
Minghao: well my roommate’s name is Jun too, must be a coincidence...
Minghao’s mind is basically like
yeah,,,,
it could be any jun
it doesn’t have to be his best friend/companion/roommate Jun
BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,
WHAT IF.
“hey Yanan do you have time in the morning in the next couple of days?”
“I don’t work until 1pm on Saturday”
“perfect, come to The Coffee Shop at 11am on Saturday. I need to show you something”
Yanan is basically looking at Minghao weirdly now because he doesn’t know what kind of plans Minghao’s mind is making
flashbacks to all the times in high school where Minghao tried to pull small pranks on Yanan to embarrass him
“sounds sketchy but I’ll come by”
and with that Minghao has started his mini quest
that same night when Minghao went home
he sees Jun on his phone as always
his sixth sense kicks in and his plans that he cannot share: [activates]
“hey Junhui what are you doing right now”
“playing on my phone can’t you see”
well alrighty then smartass
“you’ve been pretty glued to your phone for the past few weeks, anything going on?”
Jun shakes his head while he’s CLEARLY smiling and giggling at his phone
“nahhh I’ve been looking at memes”
“show me”
for some reasons Jun froze as Minghao said that
“nahhh you wouldn’t like them it’s not your humor”
“Junhui I've lived with you for 2 years now I know when you’re lying fess up”
to be honest,, Minghao actually didn’t know he just randomly guessed
(the sixth sense !!)
“ughhhh fine, you know how couple weeks ago I ordered pizza”
“ah yes the night where I came home and seeing you hugging a FULL box of pizza”
“shut up”
Minghao’s face literally screams “try me”
“anyways, I kinda have been talking to that pizza boy ever since that night”
“damn, you already got his number the first day you met him?! what’s his name?”
“first of all, he had my number from the receipt; second of all, his name is Yanan”
[secret agent Xu Minghao has completed all of his objectives]
well, almost.
since he is the one who always encourages Jun to do certain things
and he found out Jun has never seen Yanan ever since
sooooooo
“hey don’t you work kinda late on Saturday?”
“yeah, at 12, why?”
“you should invite Yanan out to The Coffee Shop and confess to him then”
Jun just shaking his head
his entire body is rejecting to that idea
“Minghao I don’t think I’m ready”
“well that’s what you think, I think, wait no, I KNOW you’re ready”
with that Xu Minghao just left Junhui on the couch pouting and contemplating at his bright phone screen
“ahh screw it”

Hey do you wanna meet up at The Coffee Shop on Saturday?
[From: Pizza Boy]
Sure!
I actually have to run an errand that day around there too
Seems like you read my mind and plans lol
[To: Pizza Boy]
I’ll meet you at 11am then!
and yes
Wen Junhui just successfully planned his first date with Yanan
but the date is under Minghao’s supervision so he can call the emergency code word “meow” when he needs help
when 11am Saturday rolls in
Minghao was already there since he had to open the store that day
Jun came about 10 mins early because he was having too much anxieties at home without Minghao
but Minghao is just ready to watch a romance drama unfold right in front of him
he almost packed popcorn to work
since Jun sat with his back towards the main entrance he didn’t see when Yanan walked in till he heard his voice
“hey what’s up Minghao”
huh
wait,,,,
Yanan knows Minghao?!
what is going on?????!?!?!?
[Jun’s panic mode: activated]
“what did you wanna show me I’m actually running on a schedule for a date later”
oooooh
and here comes devilish sneaky Hao
he popped his head out of the counter more and looks in Jun’s direction
“hey Junhui come over here”
Jun can feel his face starting to get hot
and he sloooooooowly inched his way to where Yanan and Minghao are
“hey Yanan”
now Minghao is getting REAAAAAAAL HYPE
“here Yanan, lemme introduce, Wen Junhui, aka Jun, aka my roommate”
“Jun, this is my best friend from high school, Yanan”
Jun and Yanan looked at each other and then looked at Minghao
and they did that for maybe a whole 30 sec
Yanan: oH you set us up huh
Minghao: bingo!
Jun: I literally live in the same house as you how come I didn’t notice
Minghao: well maybe if you weren’t so glued to your phone you would’ve noticed. now do whatever you need to do. I’m here to work
and he does a shooing motion to continue enjoying his show tell them to continue their date
of course, he bought them drinks because you don’t wanna just chat without a drink at The Coffee Shop!
then Jun lead Yanan to the table he was sitting at
they both just made some small talks since they’ve talked a lot over text already
and then
Jun finally brings up the courage to ask
“hey, sooo I kinda invited you out today because ever since the day I saw you, I literally asked Minghao if I can order pizza every night just so I can see you again. I’ve liked you ever since the first day I saw you.”
deep breathe in,,,,,,
“do you wanna go out with me?”
0.00000001 sec later
“yes, of course! I was about to say the same”
Yanan was so surprised at how fast he replied to that
he didn’t even think before he said anything
Jun was also surprised at how fast Yanan responded
but he was even more surprised that he finally didn’t get rejected for once
they were both giggling at each others reactions
and talking about what they should do for their next date
behind the counter you see Xu Minghao holding up his soulmate guidebook in the background
yes Junyan literally did that in front of Minghao’s book
Minghao: soulmates are real kids
