eight [cater diamond x gn!reader]
"You know Cater, if you were to turn the number 8 around, it becomes an infinity sign. You're turning 18 next year, you know? That would mean our time together from that moment would for sure last for an eternity now, right?"
As his birthday party comes to an end, Cater is reminded about a once beautiful memory underneath the orange sun.
content warning: angst, implied character death (i'm so sorry cater-) somewhat bittersweet ending?
-- ! i'll make it up to you cater buddy in the future i promise i love your smile- it's a new day in japan right now, which means it's caters birthday! so happy birthday cater! enjoy this scenario i thought of inspired by the song: "Eight" by IU!
So are you happy now?
As the birthday party for Cater comes to a relaxed pace, the dorm students and other participants chatting while eating the cake Trey had made, Cater takes the moment to walk out into the balcony. Phone in hand he makes the finishing touches on a picture before uploading the picture onto magicam.
The sun is setting. An orange hue casting the whole heartslabyul dorm, almost like a beckoning warmth: "Another orange sunset," Cater murmurs, glancing over to the door when he hears it creak, Trey coming out with a plate of snacks more suited for his palette: "Did you get the same dream again?" is the only thing he asks, setting the plate down on the balcony railing.
It always starts with a small island with an orange sun behind him. And he will wander around for a bit before hearing a familiar humming and seeing a familiar figure running around and twirling in the sand in pure bliss. He doesn't have to say anything, but you'll eventually notice him with a beaming smile: "Cater!"
"Yup, the same dream, every year counting down to my birthday, I always meet them," Cater murmurs with a laugh, gripping the railing and leaning back, his once sparkling eyes losing their sparkle as he looks at the orange sun behind him: "You know, everything comes and as they please and leaves without waving goodbye," Trey doesn't say anything, he never does when Cater reminisces, just stays quiet to let his friend pour out the emotions he usually keps locked up: "It hurts to love anyone when things go like that. And it's always about the same memory too. The memory that have started to become so old and worn out."
Your pure laughter makes Cater once again forget the shock of seeing you. You're already grabbing his hand and continuing to spin around and Cater can't help, but let out a laugh himself. And again, you both will eventually trip over something, making Cater land on top of you in a fit of giggles.
