This is your daily reminder that men and women can be traumatized over the same things, and people need time to cope before they’re ready to be empathetic to the people they view as an enemy group.

I know people regularly make the posts that are hating on people who make posts that are like REBLOG IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT____

And YEAH. I DO SUPPORT THEM. I feel bad for anyone who has gone through anything like that! But do you seriously think thats the best way to show your support?

It isn’t helping them! You aren’t doing anything besides making an angry comment about how the world isn’t fair and that’s not gonna stand out with LITERALLY ALL OF THE OTHER POSTS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING.

I’m sorry but that post does not make me sympathetic or want to have that on my blog. To me that feels like a direct attack onto some people who could be incredibly traumatized and need time to heal?

Like say a girl is assaulted by a guy and so now she is hurt, and just trying to COPE with that trauma, and might be a little reluctant to be empathetic with the group of people who she feels like has hurt her? Is being treated like the villain going to help her feel empathetic to men? No. Not at all. She needs to be able to cope, get over her possible intolerance of men and then she can be empathetic. Treating her like the villain, and saying that anyone who doesn’t is terrible just—

WHO THE FRICK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE HELPING. You aren’t helping her. And you aren’t helping male survivors either because now she is even less likely to hear your point. Some peoples coping strategies is to completely hate whatever your opponent. And I’m not saying that is a good one.

From experience: Sometimes you need to get all of the hate out of your system before you can be mature. Look, I struggle with religious trauma, WHICH is no where near as severe as the trauma all the people I’m talking about will and have gone through; and I had to take a good amount of time just to fricking hate religion before I could take a deep breath and say, “No. People are allowed to believe what they want, I want that right, so they get to have it too. And I am happy for them that being part of a religion can bring them joy, because it made me happy once too, even if I no longer feel that way.”

And honestly I think women who have been traumatized by men are the most justified in not being ready to say, they can be sympathetic because when you are that traumatized— you feel crazy. Constantly. And they literally just need to feel validated for a moment before they can have empathy. Recovering from trauma is REALLY HARD. People do it in different ways, and 90% of the time they just need validation and time.

So please, be patient with people and don’t attack people who are trying to get better.

Also I don’t feel like those posts do anything to actually help male survivors.

Ugh— but this whole situation sucks, and I also just feel like that post could have been phrased better. That isn’t raising awareness it’s a fricking attack.

If I were to ever try to make a post saying the same thing it’d be,

“Remember that Men can be r@p3d and $3xu@lly @$$@ult3d by both men and women too, and they all survivors of both of these things should be treated with the same level of seriousness, and empathy”
