internalized misogyny is a phrase that gets thrown out a lot in the social media landscape but is simply no other way to describe Maas’s writing. i don’t even know where to begin. the fact that prostitution exists in their so called utopia. the idea that prostitutes exist as kind of a buffer class for men so “good” women don’t have to deal with whatever bullshit men feel like inflicting that day. the fact that buying someone’s consent is encouraged by the so called feminist hero of the series.

Regardless of how you feel personally about various acotar fan theories, watching sjm brush them off in the podcast and finding it incredulous that people would even come up with theories in the first place and then turning around to giggle about how she doesn’t really plan things and it’s all based on vibes…

I don’t know. If I really cared about these books I would probably feel offended if that is how she reacts to a high level of fan engagement that only exists because of the gaps created by her laziness. 🤷🏾‍♀️

if you want a real no nuance acotar take it’s that the hike is just as much physical abuse as if cassian had simply put hands on nesta. he’s mad at her and so he hurts her. he’s been physically conditioning her for months now. he knows exactly what her limits are. if he didn’t want to hurt her he would have set a pace that didn’t hurt her. “but the lake” would have still had magical healing powers if they had reached it a day or so later.
