my tumblr has been mostly inactive for the past few years but it's the only place i can safely share this.
back in march of 2023, i met my soulmate. over those first 6 months, we grew to be close friends. we'd wake up at the same time for kpop comebacks, discuss philosophically about movies like bones and all (2022), and customize our stardew valley with enough mods to break my computer. with 4,000 miles of distance and an ocean between us, though, we both figured friendship was the only option.
in september, we decided to take a chance.
until last year, we had been physically together for a total of 31 days. i visited him once, and he visited me once. our love grew, in spite of it all. early mornings for me, late nights for him, long phone calls and bond touch bracelets that kept us feeling connected. that was our life. in january of 2025, we got married at the courthouse. it was going to happen eventually, why not now? why not do something just for us?
august 2025, i left. i moved. finally, we could be together. but it wasn't perfect. his home country isn't safe for us, as two trans individuals. i'm grateful enough that i can be stealth, but the anxiety of it all takes a heavy toll on us.
we made a plan to move. we'd stay in his country for a bit, then get out to europe. worst case scenario, we'll go back to the united states. but europe isn't a guarantee, and the united states paused immigrant visas for his country.
all this to say, we are currently long-distance again. but we persist. the love still grows. we are still best friends.
one day, i hope we can spend pride together, openly, as ourselves. i hope that we can live peacefully with our cats in a space we've made our own. i miss waking up every day feeling blessed that i get to share my life with him.
we deserve sunshine.
