Huntacular Googie Game Giveaway Round 4 Winners!
Bunny's paws hit the ground a little more heavily than usual as he hopped from the tunnel mouth into the Warren proper. Oh, but he was tired.
It was all done, though. The last hunting ground had been surveyed. All googie hiding plans had been made and magically embedded in the many millions of finished eggs currently in cold storage deep under the Warren. The last couple million were on track to bloom this Saturday.
Now all that remained to be done was to hold the course, stay vigilant and make sure no disasters befell his precious inventory. He had been grateful last year when the Guardians had taken it as a matter of course that they would help oversee the security of the Easter operation. Everything had gone smoothly, and belief in the Easter Bunny had surged again. What's more… it had been fun. Sharing the joy of the children with his friends and having people to celebrate with in the midst of all the action.
Still, he had tried to reassure each of them that such assistance wasn't needed this year- he'd been doing this solo for a very long time. And while he didn't voice it aloud, he knew it disrupted their own schedules.
North had snorted and clapped a hand briefly on his shoulder with a teasing twinkle in his eyes. "Ees easy. Not like it's Christmas."
Tooth had rolled her eyes and reminded him that what affected one of them affected them all. Then she had laughed and continued planning for the holiday.
Sandy had simply given him a pointed look that needed no words. The Dream Guardian obviously thought he was being ridiculous.
And it had taken all of two seconds for Jack's vulnerable look to tell Bunny that the kid was interpreting the dismissal as a rejection. Before he'd even finished the previous sentence, Bunny was not only encouraging him to help with Easter, he was kind of inviting him to visit more often.
The furry Guardian rubbed a paw over his face at the memory, recalling Jack's responding excited puppy face and promise of joint pranking and funtimes when Easter was over. Bunny realized he was grinning in the same instant that he noticed a strong yellow glow coming from a group of tulips with layers of different golden colors.
Ah. Yes, he didn't think Sandy would have been left out of the egg hunt. Still smiling, Bunny walked forward, ignoring the tired twinges in his muscles. He'd be able to rest after Easter…
A single flower glowed brighter than the rest. When Bunny reached out and touched it, not an egg but a ball of dreamsand popped out to hover a couple feet over the petals. Bunny tilted his head, one ear straight, one cocked to the side, trying to puzzle out what he was supposed to do next.
The sand shifted and formed three symbols. A rabbit curled up asleep. A shield. And the Sandman.
Bunny raised a brow and crossed his arms. Tempting. Of course Sandy would know his fellow Guardian had been too busy (and secretly anxious) to sleep the past few weeks. Funny enough, it was the little egg hunt breaks the other Guardians had left for him that gave him the needed energy boosts to finish the last week and a half with a smile. But there was no way he was sleeping now and leaving the Warren unprotected mere days before the holiday.
As if reading his mind, the golden sand grew painfully bright and then expanded.
Streams of the glowing granules shot to every tunnel opening in sight, immediately turning into walls blocking off each entrance. Hundreds of streams disappeared beyond visual range, clearly to seal off the rest of the portals. Each tunnel now had a solid dreamsand 'door'.
Bunny knew Sandy well enough to acknowledge that any defensive plan he put together would be solid. Better than what the Pooka could come up with. He would have covered all the bases, from visitors to enemies to dreamsand corruption and any other reason that meant Bunny would need to wake up. Heck, he'd probably included an instant Guardian team-summoning protocol in there.
Bunny looked back at the small handful of sand still floating expectantly in front of him. A sense of calm and safety settled into his mind and spread through every aching limb.
"Alrigh', mate. I'll take a nap like a good ankle-biter. Be fresh an' alert for Easter."
The dreamsand swirled around him as permission was granted, and Bunny was aware of just how nice it felt to lay down before he was off to dreamland.
