📚 Justin Halpern: Sh*t My Dad Says (2010)
It started as Justins Twitter-feed of hilarious quotes, words uttered by his father Sam. These nuggets of fatherly wisdom framed in the timeline of growing up in San Diego, from childhood through adolescence. Awkward situations are in abundance, cringe worthy failures commented by his dad laying down the law. There is no middleground, there is only right or wrong, black or white, and dad is always right, even if he is wrong. Portrayed is also the love the father shows, albeit not very obvious, wanting the best upbringing for his son. And Justins somewhat ingenious handling of his fathers life lessons.
It’s a book hard to read without laughing out loud. The writing is brutally honest with not much detail in setting, more on the situations and the interactions. The books success spawned a TV-series starring William Shatner that unfortunately was a hurried affair that pales in comparison.
