[okay, so I have a ton of headcanons about this subverse, but before I get into them, I have to say that Heroes by David Cook is 100% Thomas and Grant it’s great (and it’s a song he actually wrote about his brother, which is honestly a bonus). Anyway, headcanons:
-- When Coulson adopts them, they’re around 7 and 12 -- Thomas can’t sleep the first week they’re with him, because it’s such an unfamiliar place, so he only gets two or three hours of sleep a night -- Eventually, he gets exhausted and falls asleep without meaning to, and gets even less sleep than normal because he has a nightmare -- He ends up sneaking down the hall into Grant’s room in the middle of the night -- When Grant wakes up, he can’t roll over because he has a child curled up against his back -- And, really, that’s kind of how it works for a few months until Thomas can get comfortable living someplace new and safe -- Phil makes them breakfast every morning. He learns to make Captain America pancakes and he learns the structures of Thomas’s favorite chemicals and compounds later so he can draw on pancakes with whipped cream and chocolate chips -- When Grant starts high school, Thomas sits outside of his room with a book in the afternoon and waits while he finishes his homework -- Thomas is 13 when he has to get his wisdom teeth removed, and because Phil is busy with SHIELD business, Grant picks him up early from school and takes him to the dentist -- RiDiCuLoUs dRuGgEd uP QuEsTiOnS oN tHe dRiVe hOmE -- Phil probably got them a dog at some point, let’s be real he just wanted to get them a puppy that wouldn’t grow up to be too big because he didn’t know how he’d be able to handle that, but it ended up growing until it was almost as big as Thomas was -- Grant gets into the Operations Academy right after high school -- Thomas gets through high school in a year and a half and gets his PhD the same year Grant graduates from the Academy -- Phil buys them milkshakes to celebrate -- Over the next summer, Grant teaches Thomas how to drive -- One day, they’re out in the middle of nowhere and run out of gas because they forgot to fill up the tank, so they have to call Phil who’s in Portland visiting Audrey for the weekend to send someone to pick them up. -- It’s Tony Stark. -- Thomas doesn’t shut up about it for a week. -- And he does, eventually, learn how to drive. -- After Grant checked to make sure they had gas in the tank four times. -- Thomas gets into the SciTech Academy and meets Jemma and they become best friends -- She even goes home with him for Christmas because she doesn’t have the money to go home -- Grant teases them relentlessly because he’s Grant. -- During the battle of New York, Thomas is locked up in a lab and Grant is getting ready to leave a safe house and go help the Avengers out when they get their calls from Fury -- As soon as it’s safe, they go home and barely leave the house for a week except when it’s absolutely necessary -- Thomas sleeps in Grant’s bed every night like when they were kids because something feels off about the place without Phil there -- A year later, Jemma convinces Thomas to join a field team and Grant gets reassigned to the same field team because May kind of wants a picture of both of their faces when they find out Coulson’s alive -- They’re confused, reasonably -- Trip overhears one of Garrett’s phone calls and rats him out to Hand -- There is no Hydra -- There is no pod -- Everyone is happy -- The end.
That got long but I have so many emotions for this]
