Korean Laws Because Of Celebrities

1. JYJ

“JYJ bill” will prohibit Korean broadcaster from being able to ban celebrities from appearing on programs without clear reason. The bill was nicknamed after the situation of JYJ, who have allegedly been kept off of music programs unjustly by influence from the member’s former entertainment agency.

2. Sulli

Following Sulli’s passing, lawmakers in Korea are proposing the “Sulli Act” to counter cruel comments online. The bill was proposed by nine members of the National Assembly, and will be supported by 200 celebrities who were colleagues of Sulli or those who have experienced such abuse themselves. However, it wasn’t able to be passed and it is not reported that the proposal is essentially off the table now.

3. Kim Sae Ron

Performers under age 15 won’t be able to work more than 35 hours and those between 15 to 18 can’t work more than 40 hours. Minors will be also barred from practicing their craft between hours of 10 at night and 6 in the morning. One can also face up to five years in prison for forcing underage talent to act out rape or secual harassment scenes.

4. BTS

South Korea’s parliament has passed a bill allowing big K-Pop stars such as BTS to delay their compulsory military service until the age of 30. All able-bodied Korean men aged between 18 to 28 are required to serve in the country’s military for about 20 months. But under the revised law, certain pop stars can defer their service if recommended by the culture minister.
