someone should um, write a fic where Jonah and Cyrus actully get stuck in the tent 👉👈
So the next jyrus oneshot will be up today and you better damn well believe that I’ll be continuing
I'm so sure Jyrus will happen. They've done nearly 2 full seasons of build up, foreshadowing, parallels and little hints of it the whole time. Not forgetting the way Jonah and Cyrus look at each other and the fact that for every little thing (so including all of Jonah's heart eyes to Cyrus and the signs in the colours of Bi Pride near Jonah) they had to get permission from Disney to show it (confirmed by Josh). Why would they go and do all this only to throw it all away? JYRUS FOREVER 🤟🏻
I feel this in my soul. No other ship on this show has gotten the chance to develop the way Jyrus has and I hope all that wonderful development and chemistry is leading to them being an endgame couple.
In this house we do not tolerate jyrus discourse! Why does it exist in the first place! We don’t know! Welcome home y’all 🏠 🏡
Favorite Book- Content revolving around Jonah and Cyrus in your favorite book. The narrative style of POV switching is vital to the story but it works way better with longer chapters. Sadly I don’t have that time. This ended up being a crack fic somewhere along the way. Also Jonah and Cyrus didn’t get nearly as much focus as I intended. Sorry this kind of went haywire but I hope it’ll make someone laugh.
CW for drugs. And blood. And gross stuff. And idk vampirism I guess. And character death.
Life can change in an instant. Whether you find out that your sister is actually your mom, or that you are moving away, or that your feelings for your best friend aren’t as platonic as you thought they were. My friends and I have all had our lives upended and rearranged more than once in the past year. But nothing could compare to that night.
A great white flash illuminated half the world and faded in an instant. Nobody knew what it was. Scientists said it was a mystery that would remain unsolved. The government said it was harmless. Conspiracy theorists said it was the government. And ordinary folks had explanations ranging from aliens to the weather.
My name is Cyrus Goodman, just a simple teenager living in Shadyside. And while this all began I was busy dealing with a broken heart. Because I had fallen in love with Jonah Beck, my best friend, who I knew would never love me back.
Jonah’s POV
I stared at my phone screen wondering if I should text Cyrus and let him know how I felt. He was my best friend, really supportive, always there for me, and really sweet too. Lately, I’ve had some strange feelings for him. I think, maybe, I might like him as more than a friend, but I wasn’t sure how to tell him. He’s a really great guy and I don’t think he could ever like me back.
I was sitting at The Spoon, a favorite diner my friends and I all loved. I nibbled on a tray of baby taters waiting to see who would walk through the door first. A bunch of us agreed to meet up if we could. It was Saturday so we had no school, but sometimes life still gets in your way.
TJ was the first to walk in. He was tall and on the boys’ basketball team at his middle school. He looked like he was about fifteen and some kids speculated that he’d been held back a few years. I never felt like prying because it seemed too personal.
I tried to hold my breath as he strutted up to the table. Lately he’d starting wearing heavy cologne, like he was bathing in it. Some people thought it was because he started smoking weed and needed to cover up the smell, but again, I felt it was too personal to ask about.
“Hey Jonah, what’s up man?” TJ sat across from me and grabbed a menu.
“Has Cyrus ever said anything about a crush on anyone?” I ventured. TJ and Cyrus seemed pretty close. I hoped Cyrus might have told him anything. Then again, if Cyrus had come out to TJ, it’s not like TJ would out him. I sighed and immediately regretted asking.
“Well he did mention a girl,” said TJ. “Someone he liked but didn’t like him back.”
I mentally guffawed. How could anybody not like Cyrus? He must have just assumed. I couldn’t imagine what kind of girl wouldn’t return his feelings. Maybe she was a lesbian. “Oh,” I said finally. “You should tell him that he’s a great guy and any girl would be lucky to have him.”
TJ’s POV
I quickly looked up from my menu to check on Jonah. He seemed distressed. I could tell he had it bad for Cyrus and to be honest I had a feeling Cyrus had it bad for him too. Seems like Cyrus just hadn’t realized it yet. I didn’t know if he was bi or if his crush on that girl was just compulsive heterowhatever it’s called. It’s this thing where gay people date the opposite sex ‘cause society screws them over or something.
I wanted to intervene and say “You should just ask him out,” but I felt like maybe that was too personal and I shouldn’t butt my way in. He mumbled something I couldn’t hear, so I turned my attention away from him and back to the menu. There were too many options to decide.
Buffy and Marty walked in next, together. Allegedly, Marty had a girlfriend and had gotten over her crush on Buffy. Allegedly, Buffy had never had a crush on Marty. Allegedly. They sat down next to each other and Buffy scrunched up her nose. “God TJ, what’s up with that cologne? Did you bathe in it?”
“Hey, let me live my life. I thought you were finally going to be nice to me?” It was a sensitive subject for me. Lately, I’ve had this ability. I can smell the future. And as a jock, it stinks. I work out a lot, and play hard when it comes to basketball, so I’m always working up a sweat. And unfortunately, it stinks. I used to be fine showering. But ever since that mysterious light, I’ve been able to smell the future. And that includes my own sweat. And you can’t wash it away before it’s happened, so I’ve been using cologne.
Lots of people think I smoke weed and need to hide the smell, but that’s ridiculous. I don’t do weed. I vape. There’s a difference. Vaping is much cooler.
Buffy’s POV
I waved my hand in front of my nose to blow the air away. TJ smelled terrible. He bathes in cologne because he thinks it covers up the weed smell and yeah it does but that doesn’t really change things. We all know he smokes it. I wish he would stop because he’s going to be a bad influence on Cyrus. They’re close friends for some reason. Cyrus really could be a lot better.
Cyrus walked in soon after, followed by Andi and Walker, laughing at some private joke. Officially they weren’t together yet. Andi was still healing from her break up with Jonah. But the way they laughed and smiled at each other, the way they were so comfortable around each other, the way they knew each other’s wants and needs, they were perfect for each other.
Marty opened his backpack and smiled. “Now that everybody’s here, I have something for you.” He handed me a DVD, Season 1 of B99. Andi and I both wanted to watch it but we hadn’t had a chance to since it’s not on Netflix. “I know you and Andi both wanted to watch it so I got it for you on DVD so you can either watch it together or you can take turns. Consider it a belated welcome back present.” He handed me a bucket filled with popcorn and assorted theater candies. “Of course shows like these are always more fun with more people around, so hopefully you all have the chance to get together soon.”
“Hey, maybe we can get together at my place sometime,” said TJ. “My parents have a really big TV and a great surround system.”
“I’m sorry TJ, I don’t think my mom would approve,” I told him. He was like fifteen or something, probably held back a few years, and even if I went with my friends I don’t think she’d approve of me going to the house of an older guy, even if it was only by like, two years.
TJ’s POV
“Oh well, maybe Cyrus’ place?” I suggested. I really wanted in on this and if it was at Cyrus’ place that was my best shot of getting invited. “His parents have a good TV too.” Andi, Walker, and Marty barely knew me and I had only a slight chance with Jonah. If it was at Buffy’s place, I was screwed. She still hadn’t forgiven me for all the bullying I’d done. I really hoped she wasn’t expecting me to apologize at some point!
“Relax TJ, you can still come if it’s at my place,” said Buffy. “My mom might find it a little weird that you’re hanging out with us, but if it’s in a controlled environment and she’s there then I’m sure she won’t mind.
I didn’t ask what was weird about a thirteen year old hanging out with other thirteen year olds.
“And if Buffy’s mom complains about the way you acted in the past, we can both vouch for you,” said Cyrus. “You’re a changed person.”
Before the conversation could continue, the waitress came by to take our orders. Suddenly, I could smell it, the mouthwatering scent of their delicious Tuscan chicken sandwiches, with fresh sun ripened tomato and a creamy dressing. Some lucky person was getting the most delicious sandwich in the world.
“I’ll take a cheeseburger,” said Andi.
“Me too,” said Marty.
Walker and Cyrus both got different kinds of sandwiches, but not the chicken; Buffy got some fish, and Jonah got the same kind of sandwich as Cyrus, a Ham and Turkey on rye. The waitress looked at me expectantly. “I’ll take the Tuscan chicken sandwich please,” I handed her the menu.
Buffy’s POV
Andi, Walker, Jonah, and TJ parted ways after our meal. That left Cyrus to help Marty and me with our little game. We headed straight to the park. “You sure you want to race?” Marty asked. “This soon after lunch I mean. Aren’t you worried about stomach cramps?”
“Is that your excuse for when I win?” I asked with a smirk. I bent my knee down, ready to spring forward.
“Ready, set,” Cyrus spoke slowly, enjoying the drama of it all way too much. He held up his phone, ready to record the whole ordeal. I was kind of glad though. A record of my victory would be great. “GO!” He cried out.
We were supposed to race from The Spoon to the park. It wasn’t too far, but still one end of the park to the other, and with a clear path and no obstacles, this was a straight up speed game. I felt my heart pound with excitement as I ran forward, cheering and whooping loudly. I couldn’t even hear Marty’s feet against the ground, or Cyrus saying any words of compliment or encouragement. Concerned, I turned to look back.
Marty stood there, mouth agape, still at the starting line. “Oh c’mon Marty. It’s no fun if you don’t even try.”
“Buffy, you need to see this,” said Cyrus. He held up his phone as I jogged back to him. I couldn’t believe what I saw when he pressed play. One second, I was at the starting line, the next, I was halfway done with the race. “Buffy, I have no idea how you did that. It’s like you froze time.”
“B-but that’s impossible.”
TJ’s POV
I sat on a bench in the city, trying not to be too noticeable. I tapped my foot in annoyance. The woman I was waiting for was late. We were supposed to meet at 2:00 and it was 2:20 now. She could at least text! People passed by and I watched carefully to see if she was in the crowd.
An old lady dropped her wallet without noticing. I quickly looked around to see if anybody noticed, and, once I was sure I was in the clear, I opened it up to pocket the money. Twenty bucks! Nice.
“That wasn’t very nice of you,” chastised a voice.
Crap! I’d been caught. I turned around and breathed a sigh of relief. It was the woman I’d been waiting for. “Like you’re one to judge, Miranda. Selling vape to minors.”
“Well if you’re going to complain I could always go somewhere else with my product.” She smirked wickedly. She knew I’d do anything to keep her as my supplier. Everyone in Shadyside knew that Miranda sold the best vape around. There’s no way I’d settle for store bought.
“Well, for that attitude problem of yours I’m charging extra. The price is now $60 dollars i9nstead of $40.” She held out a blue bottle of vape in her left hand and extended her open right hand for the money. I sighed as I handed it all over. It cost a lot, but her stuff was always worth it.
“What flavor is it today?” That was the odd thing about Miranda. You never got to choose with her, she just gave you whatever. But she was still raking in the dough because everyone knew her vape was worth it.
“Black licorice.”
I filled up my pen and took a hit. It was amazing.
Cyrus’ POV
Marty, Buffy, and I quickly retreated to my place to try to solve this ordeal. But no matter what, Buffy couldn’t recreate the scenario from before. She tried throwing her hands in the air, concentrating really hard, running really fast, but nothing. Time marched forward like normal.
With a sigh, Buffy resigned herself and started snacking on some left over baby tares. “I swear, I still think this is a dream of some sort,” she chuckled.
Marty ate a few baby taters. “I’m sure we’ll figure it out eventually. Maybe you’re just not motivated enough. Maybe it’s cause you’re not thinking about beating me.”
“Oh no, if I can freeze time, then I am definitely faster than you. Motivation is not an issue” They both reached for the last tater. “Rock, paper, scissors?” She suggested. When Marty agreed, they both made their fists.
Buffy won. “Best two out of three?” Buffy won again. “Three out of five?” When Buffy won that round as well I was starting to feel a bit suspicious. I grabbed a coin from the counter.
“Heads or tails?” I asked her as I prepared to flip it.
Apparently she was on the same wavelength as I was. “Side,” she declared. The coin flipped through the air, heads and tails turning over each other in the air. But when the coin landed, it spun on its side and stopped without falling. Buffy won the coin toss.
“No way,” said Buffy. “I need to tell Andi.”
Miranda’s POV
I pocketed my sixty dollars and laughed. Human beings were so easy to manipulate. They had no idea this vape they were inhaling was actually my blood. Ever since that mysterious light had engulfed the world three month ago, I found myself able to bleed a mysterious liquid that gave people a feeling of euphoria similar to drugs.
I first noticed when my daughter Morgie licked some off the ground. She was in a strangely pleasant and agreeable mood for the rest of the day. She even listened when I said no. She’d never done that before! I began experimenting on birds and mice and soon moved on to humans. It turned out the best way to get them to ingest it was through vape. And these fools actually paid me for it!
Little did they know, I had ulterior motives. My daughter listening to me wasn’t just because of her good mood. My blood had a sort of mind control component to it. I got a rich business owner hooked on my product and had him wire thousands of dollars into my account. I got Morgie’s teacher to give her all A’s.
This was just the beginning. I had to make my way up through the world somehow. Maybe with luck, one day, I could rule it all.
Andi’s POV
I couldn’t believe it. I marked another tally. Buffy had won another game of rock, paper, scissors. That made the score Buffy-10 Andi-0. She really was unbeatable. “Buffy, it’s like you have a super power or something.”
“I can’t wait until I’m old enough to go to Las- Oh my God. Do you have any relatives in another state who could get us a lottery ticket?” Buffy’s eyes lit up. I won’t lie. Mine did too. “I don’t think I have any relatives who’d approve.” I turned to Cyrus. “Anyway, I was just about to go to an art gallery to meet Walker. You two wanna come?”
My phone buzzed before they could answer. I frowned when I saw a text from my mom. “Oh, mom wants me to drop her purple purse off at The Fringe. She says she forgot it and it has something important inside.
“I’ll do it,” Cyrus volunteered. “I’ll take the purse to your mom and you can go see Walker.”
“Thanks so much Cyrus,” I hugged him as I handed over my mom’s things. “What about you Buffy? You wanna come with me?”
“No thanks, I need to go find someone to beat at basketball,” she said with a smirk.
Cyrus’ POV
The doorbell jingled as I entered the fringe. “Hey Bex, I brought your purse,” I shouted out. Andi’s mom gave a quizzical smirk as she finished giving a customer a facial. “I already have my purse- oh right. My purple purse that I asked Andi to bring. How could I forget? Thanks”
I was just about to leave when she asked, “So how have you been?”
“I’ve been doing, pretty badly actually,” I admitted. “There’s someone I like that I don’t think likes me back.”
“Have you asked them yet?” She asked.
“No,” I shook my head. “I can’t because. I’m worried about what that person might say or think. I’m, I’m afraid that he won’t want to be friends with me anymore.” I blurted it out before I had a chance to let fear stop me.
Bex barely reacted. “Cyrus, whoever he is, if he’s a good friend he’ll understand. And you should go for it. You never know what might happen. Just look at Andi and Jonah. She never thought she had a chance with him and then they turned out to be a super adorable couple. And sure they broke up in the end but that doesn’t change what they had.”
I smiled sadly as I thought about them. Andi and Jonah. I told myself that I was happy for them and on some level I was. But I was also jealous. Seeing them together hurt so much more than I could ever let on.
“Honestly, Jonah and Andi ended up being so perfect for each other that I’m half expecting them to get back together at some point.” Bex tried to cheer me up. Key word tried. “So who is the lucky guy? Who is ‘your’ Jonah Beck?”
“It’s TJ,” I sputtered. The lie tasted so bad in my mouth but I couldn’t take it back now. “In fact, I was actually supposed to hang out with him. I need to get going. Have a nice day.” I pretended to look at my phone so I wouldn’t have to look bex in the eyes. Shame burned in my cheeks and I didn’t want her to see.
Bex’s POV
I stared at Cyrus as he darted out the door. TJ? Really? I was prepared to support him no matter who he loved but I expected him to have much better taste than that.
Buffy’s POV
I headed to the arcade, hoping to find someone to challenge to a game. The lights blinked and the machines buzzed and sang. The adrenaline rush almost made me dizzy. On a whim, I used a quarter to get a token, and stuck it in one of those games where you can win more tokens instead of tickets. The machine launched my coin forward and spun some icons on a cardboard cutout. Three matching treasure chests appeared, and the tokens poured out.
“Impressive, Driscoll.” A cloud of vape surrounded me and I coughed and sputtered.
It almost felt nice, but I hated it on principal. “TJ, you’re not supposed to vape indoors. You can get in trouble, you know.” I should have pointed out that as a fifteen-year-old he should not have been vaping at all.
“Oh relax, it’s just a little vape. What’s the big deal?”
“That’s it, TJ. One game, one round, your choice. You win, you get all my tokens. I win, you can’t vape for a month.” I should have upped the ante, but I needed him to bite.
TJ snarled at me. “Nobody messes with my vape.” Anger burned in his eyes. It was almost scary, but I stood my ground. My mom told me a lot about addicts. Maybe this wasn’t the best way to go about things. Maybe I should have gone to a professional to get him help.
I decided to text Cyrus. Hey can we talk about something?
The reply was immediate.
Hey Buffy, this is Bex. Cyrus dropped his phone at The Fringe.
I typed my reply. I’ll grab it for him and drop it off at his place. Thanks.
Bex’s POV
When Buffy walked through the doors with a solemn look on her face, my protective instincts took over. She was daughter’s friend and I wanted to see her happy if at all possible. “What’s wrong?” I asked.
She sighed as she grabbed Cyrus’ phone. “It’s Cyrus’ friend TJ. He’s vaping. And I really want him to stop. It’s a bad habit but I don’t know how exactly you stage an intervention for this kind of thing. I was hoping Cyrus’ parents could help. Maybe talk to TJ’s mom and dad, give him some sort of reading material.”
I smiled at her. “Buffy, you really are a kind person to take an interest in his wellbeing, even after everything he did to you. Does Cyrus’ friendship with him bother you?”
“Sometimes. It feels like Cyrus is saying ‘I know he hurt you and bullied you in the past but that doesn’t matter much to me.’ I don’t get it. I’m supposed to be his friend, how can that not be a deal breaker?”
“Some people are like that, Buffy. They see too much good in others and let them get away with hurting innocents. I know you and Cyrus have been friends for ages, but you really should talk to him about this. If it’s bugging you, you need to let him know. And if this is a deal breaker for you, then you need to do whatever is best for you.”
“Thanks, Bex.”
I gave Buffy a shoulder hug.
Jonah’s POV
I had nowhere to be so I decided to head to the Fringe. Bex was probably the only adult I knew who I trusted to give me advice on this kind of thing, and I couldn’t wait any longer. I had to talk about my feelings for Cyrus. I had to tell someone.
“Hey Bex, are you in?” I popped my head through the door, hoping she wasn’t busy with a customer.
Brittany, the only other employee I knew, turned to me. “Sorry, Bex isn’t in right now. She had to leave super suddenly. I think it’s an emergency.” She scratched her cheek in thought. “She just left a minute ago. If you’re quick you might be able to catch her.”
I ran like I was chasing a runaway Frisbee. I came from the right when I entered the shop, so hopefully Bex went in the other direction. It was my only chance.
“Bex!” I called out when I thought I saw her. But when she turned around, something seemed off about her. Her posture was so straight and her face emotionless. It was more like a mannequin than a human. She looked at me with judging eyes.
“Jonah Beck. You wish to speak with Rebecca Mack?”
I nodded cautiously. I had no idea what was going on.
“Currently I am not her. I am ‘Boogiepop.’ In the simplest terms I resemble the concept of a split identity. I am only borrowing her body for now, but I will give it back soon. You will be able to speak to her then. Or perhaps, I can help you instead?”
It seemed more like a question. “Bex- I mean- Boogiepop, I think. I think I might be bi. I think I have a crush on Cyrus. Do you know him? You knew me but I wasn’t sure.”
“Yes, I am familiar with Cyrus. He is a good man. As are you, Jonah Beck. Be open with Cyrus. Tell him how you feel. I cannot be certain, I do not truly believe anyone can, but I have reason to believe he likes you as well. Just earlier today he spoke to Bex of his feelings for someone, a boy. He claimed he was in love with TJ, but I suspect it was a ruse to hide his true feelings for you.”
“For me?”
“But I am not psychic, Jonah. I can only speculate, the only way to know for sure is if you talk to him yourself. You are both great people and I wish you the best.”
I looked at my phone and started a text. Cyrus, are you free to meet soon?
Third Person
Miranda laughed as she pocketed another $40 dollars from a sale gone right. Her body produced blood at a sped up rate whenever she needed it, so it wasn’t like she had to worry about harming herself. Sure, it hurt at first, but she was able to acquire a steady supply of needles once she got a doctor hooked on her vape.
She was walking down a dark alley when a voice called out to her. “Miranda, I’m afraid you are an enemy of this world. And I must stop you?”
She spun around and her jaw dropped. “Bex? What are you doing here?”
“Since that light changed the world three months ago, more and more humans are discovering super powers. It is my duty to fight those who would use their powers for harm. You are brainwashing others into being your servants, targeting those who suffer from addictions, and you are even corrupting the youth.”
“So what if I do?” Miranda laughed. “I don’t take or do anything that causes too much harm. Those who give me money can afford it. Those who give me supplies give me excess. And I am supplying people with what they want.” She laughed. “As for those kids? So what if I get a few sixteen year olds hooked on vape. That’s hardly the worst drug around.”
“What about TJ Kippen. You sell him vape and he is only thirteen.” Boogiepop reached into Bex’s purple purse.
“Wait, he’s thirteen? I honestly thought he was sixtee,” before she could finish her sentence, Boogiepop attacked. And in one swift motion, a long thin razor sharp wire sliced through the air and sent Miranda’s head flying.
Notes: For those curious, Cyrus did not drop his phone. Boogiepop stole it when he wasn’t looking. It was originally in hopes that Cyrus would come back and talk to Bex, but that didn’t go as planned. Also, the story begins with Cyrus saying he thinks Jonah won’t ever love him, and suggests that the events of the ztory are far in the past, yet Jonah resolves to confess? Admittedlythe direction of the story changed a bit, so basically, Cyrus starts narrating before Jonah confesses. The eventsare fresh in his mind but he feels that change is happening. Also, character death wasn't in ny original plan, it just kind of happened.
