Seriously though, how do you get them to walk nicely, next to you on one side? Actual goals
Thank you! This has been a goal of mine too, and when I saw this video it really kicked my ass into gear on practicing:
Lots and lots of practice with the heel position (formal and informal), separately!
Then lots and lots of practice with Thyme on my left and Thistle on my right (being she can already heel on that side). This way practicing them both walking with me together without competing directly with each other.
Back and forth back and forth in my yard, in my front yard, street in front of house, pet store...
Then for one on one side, some fumbling about as worked out who worked better close to me and who to be further away. Thyme works out best in the middle turns out.
Then puzzling out how to hold the leads. I actually prefer for normal walking to have the lead in the hand on the side the dog is (for obedience it’s usually in my right), So decided to go with that, even though it’s two dogs in one hand, I can control Thistle if something sets her off and Thyme...he’s a lightweight compared to her. Only challenging when entering/exiting a location as both will pull me at once! So I need to remember to switch Thistle to my right for that while we’re practicing and working on that.
We only started the side by side bit the past week, lots more work to do! No videos of the stuff ups though, because I’m using both hands then lmao.
