“Mother!?” The King paused. No, not the case. “Sorry, thought you were someone else. Something I can help you with?” He asked towards the other.

0400 hours, Callico Apartments - Complex A, Apartment number 21 . . . The sun was far from begining to peak when a messenger had knocked loudly on the screen window of the small apartment. First knock didn’t earn a response, second knock earned a disgruntled groin from the pair on the bed, and third knock earned the messenger nin a lovely view of Aburame Shibi - rushly dressed in a silky pink and colorful butterfly patterned bathrobe. Along with his signature sunglasses.
It was certainly a look, what with his mess of curly hair adding an extra sense of what had been a comfortable rest. If this had not been an apparent serious matter he might have actually gotten a chuckle out of his fellow shinobi.
“Aburame Shibi, You are summoned to come immediately on behalf of the Lord Hokage under the code Persian Cub.” It wouldn’t have been obvious but his eyes grew wide behind his shades - had someone really done that? He wondered. Yet all he did was nod, Shibi knew better then to run his mouth when there was an urgent matter. Well even more so, a man of few words was what he was after all.
In a moments notice the messenger was gone, like he had never been there at all.
This was meant to be his week off. He had even planned things around it, though he knew better then to set anything in stone, being a Shinobi meant never truly having down time. Even more so when you were rising through the ranks. It just looked like when he got back they’d have to do it then, much to the displeasure that thought came.
“Shiiii...” A soft and somewhat croaky voice reached out to him.
It hurt to hear, but he knew he would have to respond.
“...I’ll be back soon...”
After a small bit of early morning apologies, he grabbed his coat and headed out.
0430 hours, Hokage’s office . . . Once there he noted his old squadmate had been summoned as well, it was pleasing to know he would be working with someone he knew. Someone he could work well with.
It meant things would surely go more smoothly to boot.
“Uchiha Mikoto, Aburame Shibi you two are to track down and capture the charged criminal Umesaka Kao. They have been charged with Kidnapping Ambassador Oshima Kaoru’s young son and you are to bring them in anyway you wish- unless it’s unavoidable to kill then you are allowed permission to dispose in anyway you see fit. What is most important though...is that you are to retrieve the Ambassador’s son Oshima Toju as quickly as possible and even more importantly alive.”
That had been nearly a week ago when they were assigned to track and retrieve the child.
There had only been a few short clues, red moss that grew to the east that felt cold once the sun shined upon it, a missing sandal of a small size, whoever had taken Toju knew what they were doing. Because even with the note and his beetles it had been rough to track much of anything.
It was in a small patch of a logging forest though that had given them another- stronger, better chance.
“Mikoto...we got something.” His voice was low in a hushed manner. Back firm against the rough barked tree. Head gave a quick nod to a person in distance befitting a brief description they had been given of an associate of Umesaka. Slightly obese, average height, and currently early balding head of greyish blue hair. The main key item though was the ever present dusky Orange handkerchief with the symbols of a cat print he had tied around his neck.
From afar it looked like the unnamed man was heading deep into the logging forest with a bit of a worried and slightly panicked sense about him. Almost like he didn’t exactly know or want to be there.
Shibi had already sent a lone female towards his direction and most of the area was clear. That was mostly easy to tell, though he could tell of a few employees that were currently taking what seemed to be a break in the distance. But otherwise there wasn’t much else to report so...
He’d wait for her word to do much more.
kaasama / It was odd, thinking that now the two villages were at peace with one another, after such a long time of war. Mikoto had been sent here as a sign of good fate, though she believed that the elders wouldn't mourn her should something go awry. The Uchiha weren't as welcome in their home now as they had been once. "Your village is beautiful," she said. "It is a testament to the fact that humans can not only live in harsh climate but strive in it."
@kaasama
They used that to their advantage-- the harsh climate. Yashamaru heard the Sandaime Kazekage talking about that strategy. To lure those from Konoha deeper and deeper into the desert, making them think they’re gaining ground.
And then disappearing. Leave the Konoha to navigate their way across the desert. Besides, it’s November. The sandstorms would be their warm welcome.
“You should have seen it before the war, Uchiha-sama,” Yasha said, his eyes tracing the small line of shops before them. “There were so much more shops-- and so much more people.” He laughed, “sometimes, you have to fight your way to get to the good tea places.”
The war took out a lot from them. Rebuilding will take time. But if everyone gave a little bit of what they’ve got, he’s sure things will get better. “Have you had spiced milk tea, Uchiha-sama?” Yasha asked, “Or lassi? They have good lassi here too.”
‘ how are you holding up? ’
“ … Mikoto, “ the blonde tips his head up at the dark haired uchiha, barely recognizing the concern in her voice. Minato had lost days since, and there had been no signs of getting better despite of what he attempted to fool his friends with. A poorly attempted smile spreads across his face, and while he was good at masking what he felt, this was one that, not even with all of his strength, he could even muster.
Obito had died.
He was THE YELLOW FLICKER OF THE LEAF —- and yet, he wasn’t able to save him. . he wasn’t fast enough. To make matters worse, two of his beloved students had to LEAVE HIM BEHIND. While they were ninja, that was never something he wanted them to face … they’re so young.
“ I’m doing fine. I really should get to Kakashi and Rin, though. I’m late as it is, they wanted to train … “
