Roomba —> Doomba —> Kaboomba
name: calm cannon
debut: super princess peach
hi. today is going to be a very mellow post. just relax now. no need for exclamation points or capitalization or even bolded words. we are going to get into the mindset of calm cannon today.
you may remember kaboomba from yoshis island. calm cannon is simply kaboomba that has calmed down. it is just hanging out. in fact, it is sleeping. do you like that a cannon is capable of sleeping? i do. i think it is nice, and also darling. also, i am not sure why it is not called a kaboomba in this game. this is like the podoboo/lava bubble situation again, i suppose. oh well. we will not let that ruin our vibe.
the vibe of calm cannon can be easily ruined, however, since it is sleeping. it can be easily defeated. it can also just be woken up. both are rude, but defeating it is more rude, of course.
i would like to direct your attention to calm cannons little feet. those not familiar with kaboomba already may not think much of them, and may think they are simply some sort of fixture of the cannon itself. but no, these are feet. it is sitting, and it is very cute. what do you think it dreams of? i think it dreams of cannonballs, its favorite thing. its favorite “snack”. not that a cannon can eat, of course, but maybe to a cannon, blasting out something is a sort of opposite equivalent. maybe it thinks “yummy yummy” when firing a cannonball.
what a nice life calm cannon must lead. it gets to sleep and it gets to “snack”. it is like a cat. i hope you are feeling mellow. see you later.
Name: Kaboomba
Debut: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Sometimes it’s easy to underestimate how much a single, recognizable feature can give an inanimate object so much more personality! In the case of our pal Kaboomba here, they just took a cannon and gave it a good ol’ pair of cartoon legs. And that’s great! While there are so many cannons in the Mario series, Kaboomba immediately stands out, as this fella can strut its stuff! Can’t say that about every cannon, now can ya’?
Kaboombas do what you think they’d do: they fire cannonballs! Specifically, they fire cannonballs at an angle so they fall back down and explode! Ska-blammo! Their name brings Goombas to mind, but Kaboomba does not really look anything like a Goomba at all, aside from the feet. But there are lots of enemies with those particular feet.
Wait a second. Do all these enemies have a common ancestor? I mean, Goombas, Koopas, Kaboombas, they all wear the same shoes! Charles Darwin, you can’t WAIT to hear this one!
"... Ow."
Was that the sound of pain? Ego? Either way, someone should probably douse the small fire that's started on his hair.
