Godzilla and my current crush, actress Masami Nagasawa (one of his co-stars in Godzilla: Tokyo SOS [2003] and Godzilla: Final Wars [2004]), at the opening ceremony of the Toho entertainment complex in Kabuchiko, Shinjuku, Tokyo.
This photo is from April, 2015, when the life-sized Godzilla head atop the 8th floor of the Hotel Gracery was unveiled. The hotel also houses Toho offices and a large Toho theatre complex.
Godzilla was made a special resident and tourism ambassador by Shinjuku's mayor at the ceremony.

0:40 I wasn't religious before. 0:46 But it 's not that I wasn't interested in religion. 0:52 Since childhood, I was always drawn to the unknown 0:58 and I explored various types of beliefs 1:03 including sorcery and occultism. 1:08 They were a form of self-expression, helping me to 1:15 explore who I am as a person. 1:21 One day, I stumbled across Sufism 1:25 and the works associated with this mystical Islamic religion. 1:31 I found a lot in common with my way of thinking 1:38 and it resonated with me. 1:42 I wanted to know more about the core beliefs of Islam 1:47 so I began talking to people. That's how it started. 2:00 Until then, it felt like walking without a defined path. 2:06 After encountering Islam 2:09 the path became much clearer. 2:12 It made me want to believe. 2:33 Back when I didn't know anything about Islam 2:38 I saw this man in white, standing in Shibuya around dawn. 2:44 It was surreal. 2:46 He handed me a piece of paper 2:49 and told me to recite the words with him. 2:54 They were Islamic chants with Japanese explanations. 3:01 So we chanted together, and parted. 3:11 After that, he was constantly on my mind. Who was he? What was he doing? 3:20 A few years later, I was deep into my exploration of Islam. 3:27 One day, I went to pray, and there he was. 3:32 People who knew my story 3:35 told him about it, and he seemed very happy. 3:40 He said we should meet again tomorrow. 3:44 The next day, he brought me here to the mosque in Kabukicho. 3:57 He had travelled through various countries before returning to Japan 4:03 and becoming the Imam of this mosque. 4:07 Right after our reunion, only a year after I converted 4:16 he told me to become an Imam too. 4:22 I've never received any formal academic training 4:28 but I continue to study the religion while acting as Imam. 5:29 I became a tattoo artist and piecer 20 years ago. 5:34 At first it was just a hobby. 5:51 Just like religion 5:54 some parts of society see tattooing and piercing as evil 6:01 without truly understanding what they are. 6:07 Just like assuming that all Muslims are terrorists. 6:12 There's a choice of 14 or 16 gauge. 6:20 What size is my piercing here? 6:23 The smaller hole is 16. 6:26 This one looks bigger, but maybe not as big as 14. 6:31 Let's see. The bottom is 16, the top is 18. 6:42 - I'll get the 16 then. 6:45 I frequently get criticized by other Muslims for having tattoos 6:55 but it's important that they know about them. 6:59 When people see that I am a Japanese Muslim with a full beard in Arabic clothing, they're impressed. 7:11 But once they see my tattoos, they start to criticize. 7:15 In other words, humans can only perceive things through prejudice. 7:28 Done. 7:36 Not all tattoos or piercings are good 7:40 because they can be a direct reflection of 7:45 somebody's unstable mental state or inner conflict. 7:53 From a narrow perspective, I don't think tattoos and piercings are necessary to live. 8:04 But from a wider perspective, I feel like I am helping those who live their lives unconsciously. 8:12 Through my work, I am awakening their senses. 8:17 Helping them to understand true beauty and pain. 8:31 I often get stopped and questioned by the police because of their biased views. 8:38 I'd say it happens more than ten times a month, often on my way to work. 8:49 It's annoying. 8:59 But I'm sort of immune to it now. I'm beginning to find it fun. 9:19 I am living by faith, and learning is part of the process. 9:27 But I'm not a religious scholar by any means. 9:31 I may be an oddball, but I haven't lost touch with reality. 9:37 I seek to awaken people's consciousness 9:44 and challenge prejudices. Perhaps you could say I'm a terrorist, 9:51 but not in the usual sense of the term. 9:55 And even though I have tattoos I'm not a yakuza member. 9:59 although, like them, I too seek the ultimate path of life. 10:06 This is Obu. 10:12 The other is Odo.
