It's interesting to consider the different implications of the Qunari word "Kadan" and how it's used in Dragon Age. Kadan essentially translates to "where the heart lies."

We're introduced to the term in Dragon Age Origins where Sten will refer to you as Kadan once your rep is high enough with him. Given that there are actual romances in DAO, this indicates to me Sten is using the term as a platonic endearment. The Warden is his friend, someone he trusts deeply. He has affection of a kind for the Warden.

In Dragon Age Inquisition we head Iron Bull call the Inquisitior Kadan when you romance Bull. In this case it is being used as a romantic endearment. Bull has romantic affection for the Inquisitor.

In some ways it's like some English speakers use the term "dear." They may use it for a romantic partner or a friend.

Its just another way that the games remind us there are multiple kinds of affection.

Game: Dragon Age II Characters: Kadan Hawke x Fenris

So, technically, Kadan is romancing both Fenris and Anders, but I couldn't muster up the will it would take to add another character to this piece. I would have loved to put more effort into fleshing everything out but, I literally finished this two days before the 17th 😂 this month I have been struggling yo.

Anyways.

I'm honestly so pleased I found a good reason to draw Fenris again. I have a wholeass blog just dedicated to this grumpy elf and yet I don't think I've put any of my own work on it in several years!

Kadan is also always such a wonder to draw. I never get over her absolute elegance and beauty 💖 Dove really is such an accurate nickname.

I, of course, imagine them on Isabela's ship, sailing off somewhere to cause chaos in yet another unsuspecting city ahead. Kadan is, as usual, being a cheeky little tease and Fenris can't help but be anything other than fond for her as she does it. Yes, he is so in love with her. Always always always and forever.
