WIP Wednesday
Thank you always for the tags @fadetouchedlurker.
I've been heads down in a few things - really loving building different banners and designs for upcoming events and pulling together a survey to gather prompts for Solavellentine in Feb. But what's really got me heads down is ensuring I get all my prompts done for Inquisitor Appreciation Week. Almost done the book covers and now fine tuning the little passages to go with them.
So little WIP for cover and passage piece:
Part of the passage:
The Lady Herself says: “The name and uniform may be borrowed, but the equipment appears entirely his own...

Help the Hurt, Save the Small
For Dragon Age Kiss Week - Day 3: Courtyard.
The complaints about Cole were beginning to irritate her. As though there were anything she could do to control a strange young man who was more spirit than man. And besides, she liked him. She found being around him calmed her and she enjoyed trying to decipher the cryptic things he sometimes said.
But, Josie was fretting. Too many complaints had come in about strange things happening around Skyhold which led many of the advisors to point to Cole. So Lavellan agreed to speak with him.
She made her way through the courtyard in search of Cole. Finding him often became a familiar game of hide-and-seek and after asking several people and searching all his usual places, she was about to give up. She had started toward the courtyard steps when Cole’s voice drifted over to her.
She turned, ready to call out to him, but stopped when she saw that he was occupied.
A litter of kittens surrounded his feet as he laughed and danced carefully among them. She had noticed a few times that the stable cats seemed drawn to him, and Cole never appeared bothered by their company. These kittens, especially, seemed unable to leave him alone.
She couldn’t help but smile and made her way over to him “There you are Cole, I was looking for you”.
Cole bent down and gently petted the head of a kitten that was clearly the runt of the litter. It was a calico with beautifully spotted orange, black and white fur. The little creature stretched its front paws up on Cole’s leg, meowing insistently for more attention.
Lavellan crouched beside them and stroked the kitten’s head, the smile still lingering on her face. “What do you call the little one?” she asked as she stood again.
“He is called a cat.” he said matter-of-factly.
Lavellan shook her head, amused. “Yes, sorry, I know he’s called a cat. I mean, what’s his name? Did you give him one?”
Cole looked down at the little runt, who was still meowing up at him. He leaned down and carefully lifted the kitten into his hands, holding him with such gentleness that Lavellan’s smile softened even more.
Cole stared into the kitten’s eyes, listening closely to each tiny mew. After a moment, he nodded and drew him against his chest. He pressed a soft kiss to the top of the kitten’s head before tucking him into the crook of his neck.
“He doesn’t know his name yet because his mother never told him. And now she's gone. They miss her.”
Lavellan's brow creased slightly in concern, “What happened to the litter’s mother?”
Cole shrugged and glanced down at the other kittens as they climbed over his feet and tumbled around one another. “She went away and didn’t come back. They don’t know why. Blackwall found them and told me.” He held the litte runt closer against his neck. “I will take care of them.”
A lump rose in Lavellan’s throat. A sudden rush of warmth and protectiveness came over her, not only for the helpless kittens, but for Cole as well. “I’ll go to the kitchen and get some milk for them, all right?”
Cole smiled, “Yes, they would like that.”
Lavellan had only taken a few steps when he called after her.
“You said you were looking for me. Did you need my help?”
She looked back at him, still holding the tiny kitten against his neck, while the others played around his feet. The complainers could take their complaints and shove them up their asses as far she was concerned.
Lavellan shook her head. “No, I’m fine. Let me go get you that milk.” She nodded toward the kitten tucked beneath his chin. “While I’m gone, perhaps you could consider being the one to tell him his name.”
This piece was inspired by this Cole art. It's a mouse in the art but I couldn't get kittens out of my head.
