A late day seven for @femslashfeb: Dark

Himiko/Kaede, the lights go out, both are afraid of the dark, but Himiko’s fear manages to override Kaede’s for a little while.

They were alone in a classroom when the lights suddenly went out.

Both girls squeaked, but Kaede’s own startled noise was nothing compared to Himiko’s, much closer to a squeal. She could just barely make out the shadow-form of Himiko as she threw her hands over her eyes. As if that would do anything but make it even darker.

Kaede understood the sentiment.

“H-hey.” The sound of her own voice helped Kaede feel a little less anxious. “Are you afraid of the dark, Himiko?”

“O-o-o-of course not.” The amount of stammering in her voice made Himiko’s answer unconvincing. “I’m just... c-conjuring up my... my night vision. M-magic night vision. For seeing... in the dark.”

Kaede could practically hear Himiko’s chattering teeth.

Although her own hands were trembling, heart pounding in the dark, she reached for Himiko’s hand. “Hey, I’m afraid of the dark, too. So we’re in this together,” she said and smiled, despite the fact that Himiko wouldn’t be able to see. It allowed some warmth to seep into her otherwise wavering voice.

“Nyeh? R-really?” Himiko said, sounding surprised. From what Kaede could tell, her free hand had dropped from her face.

“Yeah, really. But we’re here together... we just need to found our way out, ok?” Kaede gave her hand a squeeze. “I won’t let go, so let’s get through this together.”

Himiko nodded... at least, Kaede thought that was what the movement at her side was. “O-ok. Let’s go. But you’re wrong... about one thing.”

“Hm? What about?”

“I-I’m not scared of the dark.”
