The demolition felt like an attack on our community and what the artwork symbolizes to us... so we had no choice but to respond. . . Since then we’ve attended @yourrightscamp ,Baltimore ,MD and within the past few months I’ve had the absolute honor and privilege to work closely with @yourrightscamp organizing,operations and curating the Artwork for the Atlanta Camp. . . I stopped fucking with the @nfl a few years ago. It sucked. I've been a fan for ages but it was time. Besides Kaep not being signed to a team, they were doing nothing to stem the rampant misogyny and physical abuse/violence of their players. They've also shown time and again that they view Black players (and we Black folks who watch the games) as work mules on their money making plantation. For me, it had long been time to say enough. At the same time, I'm happy so many of the ATL artists I stan have been commissioned to do murals because artists promoting ATLs civil rights legacy deserve all the shine. I'm most happy for this non-commissioned, subversive shit from @occasionalsuperstar. On Friday, the city tore down his well-known #Kaeplanta #WakandaAli mural bc the NFL wanted it gone. Ol boy said, okay. They gon' get SEVEN of them joints in time for today's #Kaeperbowl. Artist Fabian Williams, who painted the mural of Kaepernick standing next to Muhammad Ali on the side of an abandoned building on the corner of Fair Street and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, said the building was torn down this week. “I just happened to be driving by when they were doing it and it took a minute for me to mentally recognize that it was happening,” Williams said. “Symbols matter man. You destroyed the whole building it was on? I found out as I'm going to do an interview with @npr about another mural on Fair St at @marddys down the block. Think about that. The way they kick off the celebration if the @NFL most watched event, they tear down the building with their most talked about professional athlete without a job, Colin Kaepernick. What did he kneel for? Inequality. Human rights. That's the symbol that they just demolished during their celebration.
