*sits in one dark corner of your workshop and starts brooding* Hey Ethari... today is the start of the easter holidays and it seems that I will not see my friends place again this year.... Also: I had a night of bad nightmares and feel down and lonley... Can I have a hugg? Or a cute story? Or just sitting here, brooding, while you work? *sniff*
Why not all of the above?
*Picks you up using big strong blacksmith muscles, sets you in a cozy seat by the forge, wraps you up in a cozy blanket, and hands you a hot chocolate and 3 adoraburrs*
Now then! *plops down at my workbench and starts polishing a moonstone* How about a nice, soft story to lift your spirits, love?
When Rayla first came to live with Runaan and I, she was very sad that she couldn’t spend full moon celebrations with her parents anymore. In the days before the first full moon after her parents left she was constantly sulking and hiding in her room. No matter how many moonberries or adoraburrs I brought, she just wouldn’t cheer up.
Runaan and I wanted her to be able to enjoy every moment of her young, carefree years that she could. We wanted to show her that she could still have fun and celebrate without them. So, on the day before the full moon we created a scavenger hunt for her, and hid a bunch of her favorite things around the house. We made her a big, delicious breakfast and served her in bed, and told her we had a special mission just for her. A Very Serious full moon mission that only she could complete!
Her objective was to find all of the special hidden items around the house and use them to defeat a great foe before the full moon celebration that night! As any good assassin-in-training would, she accepted her grave mission and bound herself to its completion. Runaan tied a little white ribbon around her wrist and recited the assassin code for her. It was a Very Important mission, after all! We gave her her first hint and accompanied her as she ran around the house searching for more clues and special items, pretending she wasn’t excited at all.
She found the last one just as the sun began to set, along with her final clue. She had collected some adoraburr friends, a lunabloom flower crown, the stuffed shadowpaw Runaan and I gave her when she was a baby, a white opal pendant Lain passed down to her from his family, and an old sweater from Tiadrin that she had worn when she was Rayla’s age. Finally equipped with all the necessary items, her last hint led her through the village green where celebrations were being set up and prepared, and out to a small clearing in the forest. We arrived just as the last rays of sunlight began to fade between the branches.
She looked around eagerly for her final foe, prepared for battle! But there were no enemies there for her to defeat. She looked to us, confused and worried that she had failed her mission. We knelt down in front of her and pointed up toward the bright full moon rising above us.
“The moon? I have to fight the moon?” She asked, tilting her head at us. Runaan chuckled and shook his head.
“No, little blade. Not all battles are with our enemies, some are within ourselves. How did you feel about attending the full moon celebrations the past few days?”
Rayla gazed down at the grass sadly, “Not good.”
She paused, looking back up at Runaan with tears at the edges of her bright lilac eyes.
“I’ve never celebrated the full moon without them.”
“But are they truly missing tonight? What are all of the items you gathered today?” He asked patiently. She inspected all of the things she had collected carefully before realization began to dawn on her.
“They all remind me of you guys!” She answered proudly. Runaan smiled and nodded. Then, he gently tilted her chin up toward the moon again.
“Look, the moon’s light shines upon all of us tonight. Your parents are looking up at the same moon as you right now from the Storm Spire, feeling the same power that you are feeling.” He explained. She stared up with wide eyes, finally understanding the meaning of her mission.
“They’re not missing, they’re still here with me, and so are you!” She exclaimed.
Runaan nodded and gently took her hand, untying the white ribbons around her wrist.
“Good work little shadow. Are you ready to go to the festival now?” He asked. She nodded furiously, a bright, proud grin lighting up her whole face.
I’m sorry you had a rough night, love, nightmares and loneliness are no fun. But you’ve got lots of people who love you to spend the holidays with, even if it’s not in person! *places the moonstone I was polishing in your hands* I hope you have a lovely Easter holiday in whatever ways you can!
