"Kai?"

"Hmmm?"

"Is there... something wrong with me?"

"... Who told you that? Do I have to fight someone?"

"No, no! No one said that, Kai! It's just... I'm the only Popplio my age who can't use attacks."

"And is anyone bullying you for it?"

"No."

"Then if no one thinks less of you, why are you letting it bother you?"

"Because I don't like that it makes me different from everyone else! Even if no one else is saying anything, being the only one like that doesn't make it any less uncomfortable. I just... I just want to be normal."

"Is that all?"

"What do you mean?"

"Is that the only reason you want to learn attacks?"

"Yeah, and so I can play some other games with the others."

"Lei, there's nothing wrong with being different. We're all different. Everyone's great at some things and not so great at others. It's all part of being you. Like, even if you can't use attacks, you're a way better singer than any of those other Popplio, for example."

"I'm a way better singer than you, Kai!"

"... Yeah, that's true."

"Lei, you don't actually want to fight, do you?"

"No, not really. I only practice because Chief wants us all to."

"Ugh, of course he does. It's stupid. If you don't want to learn attacks other than to play some kids games, then he and the others should just leave you alone and let you do what you want to do. They should just leave the fighting and learning attacks to those who actually want to learn that stuff."

"It would be more fun to sing or go look for treasures all day!"

"You're way too gentle and sweet to be fighting anything anyway, Lei."

"Well, maybe I won't be like this forever and ever! Maybe I'll be more like you!"

"I hope not. You're fine just the way you are, and if those old Primarina or anyone else in the tribe can't see it, then they're the ones with the problem."

"Thank you, Kai."

"Just remember that you have your Voice... and you have me. Anything your Voice can't handle, I can. As long as you have both, you should never have to fight anything."

"And if I don't have either?"

"That'll never happen. You can't lose your voice, and I'll never leave you."

"Okay. Thank you Kai."

"Now go to sleep, Lei."

"It would still be nice to learn one attack. So I can kinda fit in."

"... Fine. Tell you what. I'll show you how to use Water Gun tomorrow. Will that make you happy?"

"Yay!!"

"Just can't say no to you, can I?"

"Nope. Good night, Kai!"

"Good night, you spoiled, conniving little pup, you."

(@ask-team-searchlights) Gen@Leilani: "U-uh, hi. Nice to see you again. Um...y-you have a family too, right? W-what are they like?"

"Well, with Mother, it's like all the stuff I already told my friend Bell. She taught me and Kai how to sing and swim and stuff. She brings us food every day, helps us look for treasures... you know, the usual kind of stuff that mothers are supposed to do."

"But also Mother is very wise because she was raised by our chief and knows all of our stories. Almost every night, she would tell stories to me and Kai and all of the other Popplio and Brionne in our tribe. Since we've been hidden for a really long time, she always says it's important to remember where we came from and how the world used to be. Oh, and Kai loves her stories especially! He always talks about how he wants to see the world and be a great hero like Akua in our stories."

"And you know? I think he can do it one day. He's brave and responsibi-ble and a great fighter! Like, he always says he would fight Kyogre by himself to keep our tribe safe if he had to. And while he has other friends in the tribe... y'know, a lot of the other male Brionne in the tribe, the ones that he grew up playing with... he always finds time to play with me."

"I love both of them, and I miss them more than anyone!!"

"There was one problem, though..."

"Kai... keikikāne, I know you are strong, resourceful, and very brave. You know I've seen you fight. But there are others yet in the ocean that are much stronger than you are, ones we know nothing about. You cannot fight them alone."

"But don't you think I've done enough to prove myself? All the Sharpedo, Huntail, Gorebyss, Bruxish, and Lugia knows what else I've fought to protect Lei and others here? Everybody else trusts me, even the chief. Why can't you?

"Mother and Kai... didn't always get along with each other"
