I think this anon has to ask themselves why is it so important to them that this character has light skin. The artist is defending representation of poc people, which is lacking. Poc are erased by white washing all the time while there is plenty of white representation.

does anon not realize, too, that bioware whitewashed their own character and he WAS dark in ME1, which is what you based your drawing off of?

does nonny not realize that Singapore IS an asian country?

some responses to the anon. i personally also thought that he was dark skinned in me1, but i suppose not everyone found it to be the same.

in the previous ask you said that kaidan’s mother wasn’t from singapore and stated that as a fact, so of course i’m going to assume that you do believe that kaidan isn’t a poc. i’m glad to know i was wrong about that.

and i didn’t make him black. yes, i made his skin tone darker by a few shades i’m not about to deny that but in no way made him completely black. as i said before, i will remember to constantly portray characters correctly in the future.

kaidan's mother wasn't from singapore she was in singapore while pregnant with kaidan please get your facts straight before preaching them as law, we have no knowledge of his parents other than that they live/lived in canada

oh my goodness why are people so intent on making kaidan white? 

the wiki says that kaidan’s mother was in singapore while pregnant. the most logical explanation to that is because she is singaporean.

please stop trying to find every single loophole that could keep kaidan from being a poc

I applaud you for your accurate drawing of kaidan. I always hated how white washed he was. All those anons who are crying about it can go research what representation and white washing in media means. Your drawing is in no way blackface like that anon said, they are just trying to use white logic to make you make him whiter.

As lovely as your drawing is, isn't it basically blackface what you did? Your Kaidan is a lot darker on it than in the first game, his face model is latino and rather fair skinned and people from Singapore as well as Russia are among those who have even fairer skin than most Europeans and as you mentioned this is where Kaidan's roots lie. How can you accuse others of changing is look if you do it yourself? It seems a bit like wish fullfilment what you do.

i went by his me1 face model when drawing him and i didn’t think i was making his much darker but if this really is an issue then of course i apologize for drawing him with dark skin. i did have complete control on how i was portraying him, but i never stopped to consider this, which is completely my fault. i’ll make sure to correct myself in all future drawings of poc, and i can also of course take the drawing down or fix it.

nah, dude. i know his me3 face looks like someone poured bleach on him, but his mom’s from singapore and his last name has apparently been confirmed to be russian.
