Finally saw Godzilla: KOTM and BrightBurn
Bought both together and watched em both. Both were awesome films and I cant wait for what follows. But one thing I need to say.
All that comaining about KOTM plot. It's all stupid as hell. Know why?
The plot works and its fucking awesome.
The idea that the monsters are a natural order with the humans works, the radical eco-terrorist as an enemy works well, and the overall narrative was pretty good. Hell my only real beef most the time was I just saw a couple parallels to Jurrasic Park but they were so minute I forgot what they were.
What bothered me about people complaints towards the film though were how they said they didnt give a fuck about the human characters and focused too much on the monsters. Here's the deal. These movies appeal most to the fans that grew up on "THE BIG LIZARDS GONNA PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE". But to say this film didnt care is just wrong.
If in comparing them all, I'd say Kong: Skull Island had the best balance between Titan and human, KOTM had a bit more monster than human, and Godzilla 2014 had more human than monster. And theres nothing wrong with any of that. I think they did it just fine with KOTM. This film was essentially Gojis rise to the throne, so its gonna focus on him and the other Titans. But they still focus enough on the humans that it balances out. I personally lived the dynamic between the dad and Goji, how there was this dynamic of how he had to force himself to forgive Goji. And the subplot of the mom secretly having a deal with theeco terrorists works for the film and it drives it forward.
Overall the film was really good and I am glad I bought it. Also 50 bucks says GvK focuses on their fight with Mecha King Ghidorah as a secondary villain or something similar.
(And Brightburn was equally awesome I want more violent heroes and I'm gonna hopefully start watching The Boys soon)
