So I was at the library at the University of Omaha today and they have a one stall bathroom for any gender/any expression (that’s how they worded it, there was a sign and everything). And so it was like “yay! Progress” (and bonus points because my lgbt+phobic mother never said anything), but the problem was that there weren’t any of those trash cans in the stall for throwing away pads and stuff, which means if you had a bloody pad/tampon you had to A) flush it down the toilet or B) walk across the bathroom in order to throw it away. Which may not seem like the biggest deal, but if there is a line in the bathroom I don’t want to have to walk across the bathroom in front of everyone with a bloody pad.
And another thing THERE WAS NO FREAKIN EXTRA PADS IN THE BATHROOM. There was even a sign saying:
So basically saying if you just started your period or you’re on period and you have no pads/tampons you have to deal with your period blood till you walk across the library till you get to the women’s restroom where you get your extra pads. And when I visted the male and female bathrooms where closed and there were like four tampons and three pads in this bathroom, so if you were on your period you were just out of luck. To me that would mean I would have to stick toliet paper in my underwear and make do till I was able to get home (which wouldn’t be for about an hour and a half).
Also the biggest problem with putting extra pads only in the only female bathroom across the library was if you didn’t feel comfortable using the only female bathroom (which would be a reason for using this bathroom) and you started your period well you’re going to have to suck it up and go to the women’s restroom because THE EVERYBODY BATHROOM DOESN’T COME STOCKED WITH FEMINE PRODUCTS.
If you’re going to have a bathroom for everybody make sure it comes stocked with femine products.
Unless I’m missing something then, tell me and I’ll delete this post.
