I have been working on a second chapter to Meeting Murder On The Way To Liberty (my Gundam Wing/Iron-Blooded Orphans crossover prequel thingy) and I'm happy to report an overall plot is rather rapidly unfolding. This of course involves trying to resolve a lot of the thematic and stylistic disconnects between the two series: IBO is fundamentally not a 'war is bad' show in the same way Wing is, Wing is far less concerned with class conflict than the story built atop structural injustice, etc. It also means trying to square certain issues of setting - I can't justify a travelling circus with the way Mars is set up in IBO, so if I want to use the Cathy and Triton/Trowa connection (and I do), how does that work and how does that change those characters?

Thankfully, in the manner of such things, this opened up the avenue to a perfect dramatic beat on which to hinge the middle of the story. I've also zeroed in on what the deal is with Wufei's isolated/decaying/tradition-focused colony (it's a doozy, if I do say so myself), and I might even be starting to grasp the outline of What The Hell Treize Is Up To This TIME, which I am very happy about because, again, this can't really be a story about how human conflict is generically bad and still fit in as an IBO prequel.

(Currently I suspect it's mostly going to be a story about the pitfalls of trying to Force The Revolution.)

Anyway, an inevitable side effect of this is my latching on to some sort of background music to muse to. With IBO and Tekkadan specifically, that tended to be Skinny Lister, owing to how they have that kind of energy. But for this, well, I wasn't exactly sure on account of not quite being sure of the tone I was going for.

And then I started listening to a lot of Kaiser Chiefs songs.

OK, point 1 - lot more political than I really registered when I was a teenager. Point 2 - not only is "I predict a riot" basically a summary of the entire first act of this story, as it currently stands, lines like "I'll be a somebody, upon my hectic last day in Hell" and "Love's not a competition but I'm winning" are giving me a plethora of things to apply to Gundam pilots. They even have a song called 'Man On Mars'.

So yes.
