Kalpathy Ratholsavam celebrated in Kalpathy Temple or Kasi Viswanathaswamy Temple attract thousands of devotees from all over the world. Kalpathy Temple located in Kalpathy village of Palakkad district beholds Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi as dieties. This festival is usually celebrated in the month of November every year. In this year, it is celebrated from 14th November to 16th November. This historic festival is celebrated on the basis of Vedic Brahmin culture. Vedic recitals and cultural programs conducted during Kalpathy Ratholsavam festival pleases the hearts of visitors. As per research, these recitals are found to be over 700 years old. Temple chariot procession held during the last three days of Kalpathy Ratholsavam pleases all eyes of visitors. Chariots carrying deity used in procession are beautifully adorned with flags and flowers.
Viswanatha Temple located in Kalpathy is also well known in the name of Dakshin Kasi Viswanathaswamy Temple. As per studies, this historic temple located on the banks of river Kalpathy is considered to constructed during 1425AD time period. It is considered as one among the oldest temples present in Kerala. Due to this great temple, Kalpathy village is also known in the name of Dakshin Kasi or Varanasi of the South. Tourists can easily reach this destination by travelling a a distance of 3 kms from Palakkad town. Rishabha Vahana procession celebrated on fifth night of festival captures all eyes. Here deities from temples are taken in decorated chariots to western end of Kalpathy village, from where they meet and disperse after two hours.
