Common Ragwort by Julie Via Flickr: My first photo taken using the Hipstamatic App for my iPhone HTT! Common Ragwort is a well-known perennial throughout the country which is listed under the Noxious Weeds Act 1936. It grows in grassland where it gives a superb blaze of gold from June to November. This native plant belongs to the family Asteraceae. It can grow to 1m high, bearing dense, flat-topped clusters of bright yellow flowers. The plant contains alkaloid poisons which could cause liver damage in cattle & horses if it is accidentally cut with hay & fed to them but in reality the animals tend to avoid it completely when it's growing in fields. This is also the favoured food plant of the Cinnabar moth caterpillar. Photo 42/100 for the 100 Flowers 2018 Group. This year I'm challenging myself to photograph 100 different wildflower species found growing in the Irish countryside as listed on www.wildflowersofireland.net
