You wanna put messages in my asks box SOOOOO BADDDDD
Got the adhd diagnosis and everyone fucking knew. My mom was still in denial but everyone else's reaction was so funny.
My sister: well no duh
My step mom (with adhd): yeah that makes sense (we had discussed in detail before why she agreed with my hypothesis of me having adhd)
My dad: ...yea we knew
My best friend: I bet my life savings on this, obviously
My other bestie: yea checks out honestly we knew
My step brother: really!?!?! (Sarcastic)
My cat: mreow
My boss: *chuckles* yea...*immediately starts discussing an adhd related medication issue with me because we had talked in detail about this before*
Me: I have known this for 3 years.
My mom: really? Wow, alright. (Genuinely was in denial for years)
Got finally diagnosed with ADHD! And the crowd goes....yea we could tell
Wouldn't it be crazy if I like- actually posted🤭
ADHD talk- accommodations for mental disorders and disabilities in work isn't as hard as some people try to make it seem.
Now I can't speak for every work environment, because each one comes with different challenges, some of which are impossible to accommodate for, but generally speaking, if your management cares, they will at least put effort in. And I also note that I have just one disorder- someone with ASD and is high support need would have a completely different experience in these situations and what would need accommodated.
I work at a knock off Dairy Queen of sorts, and my boss has found simple ways to work on accommodating. She always knows to look out generally to see if I'm getting overstimulated or am having sensory issues, which isn't even accommodation, thats just caring.
Some actual accommodations would be her just taking an extra second to give more detailed instructions, whether in words or writing them around the place. Sure, to the rest of the employees a 3 word command conveys all the info needed, but for someone with executive dysfunction, I need just a bit more specification. And also note- her writing more detailed instructions around the building helps EVERYONE who works there.
She also is aware of my forgetfulness and 'out of sight out of mind' tendencies, so she just puts my checks in my bag. The check holder is right below my boss's papers and next to the AC, so my brain counts that whole area as 'do not touch' and I often forget that my checks are in the do not touch area. It takes no time at all for her to just shove the checks in my bag. It's not because I'm lazy and don't want to grab them, it's because they will sit there for weeks before I remember to grab it.
This was just some rambling, take nothing serious, I'm just a yap yap yapping over random shit I thought of at 3am. Every work environment and boss is different, I personally struck gold in a sense. Idk.
I apologize for what I am going to say to you, but I have to. I am Ahmed from Gaza, married with two children. We live in the shadow of war and destruction. I lost my brother, my home, and most of my relatives. We have nothing left. I ask you to help, even a little, so that we can survive and protect my children. Any amount, even a small amount, will save our lives.
