Seasons of the Goliaths Book 1 Roster

Lo and behold the creatures that make up the goliaths of Seasons of the Goliaths so far! Quite a diverse little crew of them all together aren't they? Doing their little dossiers here and there have given me a lot of renewed energy to finish the actual novel! And as a little treat, I figured it would make some sense to have the whole gang together here. Read about each one below! - Baelora - Kalthor - Mizhen - Charlussa - Seltok - Paranthus

Goliath Dossier: Kalthor

Name: Kalthor

Nickname/Titles: The Ice Age Brute

Size Class: Goliath

Physical Description: Kalthor is a mashup of several prehistoric mammals, exhibiting traits of a variety of families including the brontotheres and the bizarre chalicotheres. A mainly quadrepedal goliath, his head is adorned with both a large rounded nasal horn and a pair of long ones coming from the back of the skull. A thick neck reaches a massive body with large clawed forelimbs. His forefeet can also act as hands, with a smaller inner toe acting as a thumb as needed.

His body is layered in thickened dermal armor, not dissimilar to that of the indian rhinoceros. And if that wasn't enough, a long tail that ends in a rattle like mace means that he's business in both the front and back.

Notable Abilities/Traits

Physical Brute: Kalthor has an enormous amount of inner strength and durability, able to throw other goliaths around with surprising ease moreso than other goliaths of his size range.

Biological Armor: A thickened hide that can repel most forms of human made and goliath made ranged attacks and energy beams.

Rage Mode: When pushed to a limit, Kalthor can ignore the limits of his physical barriers, going all out. This can leave him particularly vulnerable afterwards however.

History of Interaction with Mankind: One of the most destructive goliaths to emerge during the Resurgence, he was quick to establish a dominion in the ruins of the Old City, taking what was once man's and turning it into his own domain. His den is a place of ice and earth, holding back into it the trophies of the goliaths and particularly clever humans he's defeated across the years.

It was by accident entirely that the most recent Gatherer expedition stumbled into his lair, awakening him from what had been a period of inactivity of nearly three decades. Chasing after Porschia, one of the Gatherer expedition team, it was lured back towards the Village. Along the way, it encountered the smaller goliath Mizhen and clashed, breaking the smaller goliath on his way after Porschia. Soon after he arrived, in which a series of lucky shots helped keep the beast away at relative arm's length. But when he recovered, his wrath had been earned, and they would be spared no mercy. It would have spelled doom, if it were not for the unlikely arrival of another..

Danger Ranking: 4. Kalthor has been known to directly attack both large scales settlements like the Village, and directly hunt and kill individual humans. Avoid at all costs.

While I’m not participating in Inktober for personal reasons, have a recently done Kalthor in it’s place.

Before man, monsters roamed the earth. It was a common fact really, what with gigantic retrosaurs and beings from beyond the stars and all. But there was an overarching theory that mankind would have to dwell within a relatively kaiju free world to have build civilization without gigantic monsters roaming about. And with most either trapped geologically, magically, or lost to space, it was a lull that brought man to where he was today.

Kalthor challenged that thought entirely.

Originating from the middle of the Cenozoic based on what can be dechipered from his body, the large kaiju is surprisingly adapted to humanity around, only lashing out by other monsters or direct attacks. In truth, one has little to fear with him around, even with his destructive habits. He has fought off several monsters in a grumpy but lethal manner, and has once even been called a hero. As much as a prehistoric mammal that emerged from volcanic rock and is highly temperamental can be. 

A more interesting feature however, is that vague records of Kalthor that exist globally. In modern times Kalthor is a globetrotter, and records ranging from cave paintings in Africa to illustrations in medieval Japanese manuscripts showing a beast similar to Kalthor if not nearly a mirror image. The idea that Kalthor has been around throughout modern history and ancient history is challenging things. The alternative is that another roams somewhere, a possibility that might just be true...

At this point most of my regular followers will recognize the amazing work of @connorricks, and he’s absolutely a chap for commissions. He helped bring Kalthor to life here, and I cannot thank him enough. Like,if you’re looking for a great piece for great rates and a wonderful fellow, get over there now.

Now, for the regulars, one may ask why I went with Kalthor of all creatures. Well, I was taking a look at his concept a few weeks back, and I made plans. Kalthor’s gonna be a larger part of the KogaVerse, to have that prehistoric mammal feeling. Maybe make him the Rodan of the KogaVerse or something.

So, I was bored and wanted to mess around with audio again. So digging out some of my favorites that I hadn’t touched yet, and made Kalthor’s noises. For thpse that may have forgotten, Kalthor is one of my mammal kaiju that i haven’t talked much about at all. Due to me being in a certain project has revived usage of him, and it resulted in this. So enjoy.

30 Day Kaiju Challenge; Day 10; Mammalian

Name: Kalthor

Age: Unknown, thought to be within the last 50 million years to 640,000 years ago or so.

Height: 35 meters

Length: 55 merters

Description: A hodgepodge of ancient mammalian animals, Grisros breaks what we thought we knew of ancient mammals and the world of kaiju being a more recent event in the Cenozoic. Its snout has a rounded horn like structure similar to that of a Brontotherium, while a rounded pair of horns like that of a Harlan’s Musk Ox sit on the top of the skull, with the rest of its face being a short, dark brown fur. Two tusks curve downwards out of the beast’s upper jaw.  His hunched body is covered in grey armor plating like that of an Indian Rhinoceros, with the tail being long and covered in thick, dark brown fur and ending in a mace like structure. His back feet are five toed and like hooves, while his front feet have three claws that he walks on like knuckles. The armored has floppy spines, not unlike that of an iguana.

Abilities

-          Impenetrable Hide:  With the armored body, few things can penetrate the hide, from volcanic rock to modern weaponry.

-          Heat Resistence: Fire based attacks have little effect, and lava almost acts as water or sand for the gigantic monster.

-          Sounds of Thunder: Using his body as a reverberating chamber, Kalthor can echo out loud sounds that rival thunder

Weaknesses

-          Poor Sight: With increased senses of smell and hearing, Kalthor’s eyes are incredibly small and not good for seeing.

-          Slow Movement: Armored hide makes him a slow trudger, and faster foes could possibly knock him over to his more vunerable underside.

Backstory: The Cenozoic era and kaiju is a fairly unknown time in the history of earth. While most would assume that kaiju were down in numbers so that mankind could develop, Kalthor shows that otherwise. Emerging from rocks from 30 million years ago, the hooved mammal erupted from the rock as if it had only been a short nap. Surprisingly, it was friendly to the paleontologists that first discovered it, and actually dealt with a rouge beast with surprisingly efficiency of becoming the target and letting it focus the rage on his armored hide rather than the city, before defeating it with amazing strength. It was easily shipped to Mortus Insula, where the behemoth of a creature fed peacefully on the foliage and lived there in peace.

How They Interact with Other Kaiju: Kalthor tends to be pretty unreactionary towards other kaiju, but friendly to those that come in peace. For those that like to spar, he doesn’t mind so much, letting monsters whale against his thick armor. The more violent ones get his wrath however, and he lashes out with ease.

One third of the way through already. That’s a hell of a lot of kaiju built. Anywho, Kalthor takes his appearances from a few different sourcues, the main one being the Megatherium illustrations from the early 1900′s and late 1800′s that depict it as a reptilian creature. A few edits, thanks to seeing a few fossils, made the final touches.
