The events occur after the battle against Vega
"HAYLEY HELP!" Lily screamed and I ran out of the shower, desesperate, trying to wrap the towel around my body. I must have stumbled a couple of times on the bathroom rug, trying to open the door. "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, RUN!"
"What's it?! Where's the thief ?!” I yelled back. Lily was sitting loosely on the couch with her legs on the coffee table and a pot of popcorn in her lap.
"What? What a thief ?!” She said looking at me.
"Lily, I was showering!" I yelled at her. "You scared me! I think you better have a good explanation for this...!”
"YOUR CRUSH IS ON TV!" She shouted, pointing at the TV, and I turned all over, watching Kamilah on the TV screen apparently being interviewed by a man.
"She's not mine...!" I rubbed my face with one hand. Lily frowned, glaring at me. "I should never have told you what happened between us." I sighed.
"You two had sex," she said. "And you practically drool every time she shows up, so yeah she's your crush."
"You did not have to get me out of the shower in a hurry for that. Kamilah make interviews at least three times each month," I said.
"Sit down and shut up. They're asking about her company.” She said turning up the TV volume.
I sat down next to her. Kamilah was incredibly beautiful in a black suit, and heels, sitting cross-legged. The man was seated in front of her. It was impossible keep my eyes away from her.
The man was asking many questions about her company and the recent contracts that Ahmanet Financial had closed with famous companies around the country.
"... Your company has been a success since it was founded, being the CEO of such a large company should be very difficult to balance personal and professional life," he said.
"Well, it's no secret to anyone that my work has been my priority in the last few years," Kamilah replied. "It's hard to get the perfect balance, but I'm satisfied with my life today"
"Today you are one of the most successful women in the world, I could mention the many times you appeared on the cover of Forbes and Time, but moving on to a more personal issue, I think what we all want to know is if Kamilah Sayeed is single now?” He smiled.
"Yes, I'm single." Kamilah smiled graciously.
It's been months since we fought against Vega and Nicole. Months since... We slept together.
Our contact was limited, only by exchanging glances when she came to talk to Adrian.
I had to forget what her body was like, the taste of her lips, her kisses and her intoxicating scent, how good it was to be close to her warm, perfect body. I had to forget Kamilah.
I was fully aware that I had fallen in love with her faster than I could imagine. She was the biggest crush I've ever had in my life that I never expected to have.
I sighed and leaned my back against my couch, running my hand through my hair.
She was always busy and always working. After that night in her office, we did not talk about what happened on the next day. She did not raise the subject, and I thought it best not to mention, maybe she did not want to talk about it.
Kamilah was a mystery that I loved solving. It intrigued me and made me want to know more and more about the life of that wonderful woman.
"She's too old for me, really," I said trying to convince myself that crush might be a passenger thing and that it would not detonate my emotional every time I'd see her. What happened at least twice a week.
“She’s too old for everybody.” Lily said. "But she's hot as hell. You have to admit it.” Lily laughed with her eyes on the TV. "Why do not you call her out?"
"ME?" I touched my own chest.
"You heard the lady, she's single. You know what I call it? Opportunity"
"You're are out your mind, Lily. As if that would happen."
"Let's be honest, it's not going to happen”
“I don’t understand you. You've always been so bold with your relationships. Never afraid of anything... What happen to that brave Hayley?"
"Because it's her. She's like no one I've met, she's amazing,” I said, pacing back and forth.
"You'll never know if you do not try." Lily said and walked out the door. “Damn, girl bring bold Hayley back. I like her more.”
“Everything is going to be fine. It’s just a crush.” I said to myself, taking a deep breath.
Another day, another meeting. I could hear clearly the altered voices of Lester and the Baron and the malicious laughter of Priya coming from behind the thick walls of Adrian's meeting room.
The Baron still was not fully accepting the fact that the former rebel leader of the clanless now acted as board member representing his clan. Jax was doing a great job all these months. I admired his courage and patience to put up with the Baron at meetings like these.
The only thing that interested me was the fact that she was inside. Kamilah was one of the firsts to arrive for the meeting.
At that moment the doors of the meeting room opened and Baron passed by me cursing out loud several names at once. Lester followed him out without a word, looking contemplative. Jax appeared between the doors and I smiled at him.
“So how did it go?" I asked.
He came and leaned against the counter. I stood and leaned beside him.
"It could have been worse." He tried to smile.
"One step at a time, right?" I said.
"Fine," he agreed. A smile came from the corner of his mouth. "So, where are you going after here?"
"Home, I'm exhausted," I said.
"I’m going home too, I think today give me a lot to think. I see you tomorrow" he said with a smile and walked back to the elevator. I kept my eyes on him, thoughtful.
"What's on tomorrow?" Priya's voice came to my side and I jumped. I had not noticed that she was there until she showed up.
"Oh, God..." I said looking at her with my hand on my chest. "You almost scared the hell out of me, Priya."
"No, God, but almost. I didn’t know you had a date, dear." She purred, sliding her fingers over the counter and looking at me with a wicked grin. "You should go home and visit me. It's been a while since your last visit." It was amazing how Priya could scare me. I tried not to express it in my face when she was around, but only her presence made me want to run cross the room.
"It's not a date, it's just a ride between friends," I said, trying to pull myself together and move away from her. I began to organize the papers to keep me busy.
"Uh, it does not look like it, but I do not care what's going on between you and the newest hottie council member, I don’t mind sharing you." She smiled.
"Sharing me? Alright... So, is there anything I can do for you?"
"There are many things I can think of, but they do not involve clothing." She smiled showing the fangs and I swallowed hard. She laughed. "When you're up for something fun, stop by my club and you'll know where to find me." She blinked with a smile and went to the elevators.
"Jesus, what was that," I said to myself.
I saw Adrian and Kamilah coming out of the conference room, both talking about the show that Baron had given. I lowered my head and tried not to intrude on the conversation, kept on my cell phone, passing by profiles in Tinder.
"You clearly heard his words, he threatened the council," Adrian said nervously.
"Adrian, if I took the Baron's threats seriously, he would probably be dead already," Kamilah said. Adrian sighed and continued the conversation for a few minutes until I heard his footsteps retreat and the door to his office close.
I heard the sound of Kamilah's heels pulling away, soon the sound of the elevator button would activate and she would leave.
I continued wandering through the profiles.
"What is this?" I heard her voice behind me and I jumped in alarm. I looked to the side and Kamilah was next to me spying my cell phone. "What is this tinder thing? And why do you have these pictures of these men?” She pointed.
"Kamilah! I swear to God you and Priya are plotting to kill me from the heart,” I said nervously.
I swallowed hard and blocked the cell phone, threading it between my legs. My cheeks turned red as they always did when she was around. My heart was racing. I could feel her Chanel perfume from where I was.
She looked at me for a moment and studied me.
“I wanted to talk with you. If you can walk me to the elevator,” she said softly.
"Sure," I said rising and following her to the elevator. Kamilah came in and I did the same, she pressed the button on the lobby. The doors closed and I kept my eyes on the doors.
"Your pulse is accelerating. Are you okay?” She asked spying me.
"I'm fine." I tried to smile.
"So you did not answer me."
"It was an... an app to meet people," I said. "It's very famous, actually."
"A dating app?" She turned around.
"Yes... You choose the profiles that set you up and start a conversation. If they both like each other, they start dating."
"This is so weird. Humanity does not stop surprising me. And you were using...?” She pointed at me.
"I was just taking a look," I said with a shrug. "Lily uses a lot."
"So you're interested in dating online?" She narrowed her eyes.
"Oh, it does not cost anything to try." I laughed. "What did you want to talk to me about?" I asked.
"I was wondering if you're free on Friday," Kamilah said. I turned to her, god she was so much taller than me. She was looking at me with a look of anticipation with her hands in her pockets.
"I don’t have plans on Friday. Why?” I asked curiously.
"The Metropolitan Museum of Art, brought new artifacts about Egypt this month and I was wanting to go since they brought in, but I did not have time. Then I wondered if you'd like to go with me. We could go to dinner later,” Kamilah said.
I could not stop the smile on my face, when I saw I was already smiling widely at her.
"Are you serious? Wait... Kamilah Sayeed is calling me on a date?” I smiled, folding my arms.
Kamilah looked around uncomfortably.
"Date?" She asked a little bit confuse.
"Well, honestly seems like one. Just the two of us, It's what we call when one person has an interest in the other and they go out together to find out if they want to move forward in that relationship or not."
"Oh," she said thoughtfully. At that moment the elevator doors opened and she stepped out, but turned around. "It's a date then," Kamilah said with a broad grin.
I gave a silly grin in response. Kamilah smiled at me and walked away through the lobby. Leaving me open-mouthed in the elevator.
