Pet owners: Kaopectate has been reformulated & isn't safe for kitties!

Our vet didn't know that Kaopectate had been reformulated and she recommended we give our kitten half a teaspoon 4x a day for diarrhea.  We went to the store and bought some, but thought it was weird that it listed bismuth subsalicylate, the ingredient in Pepto Bismal.  I didn't remember that from my childhood, I thought it was supposed to have kaolin & pectin, which are gentle food ingredients.  So I did a quick Google & found out bismuth subsalicylate is mildly toxic to cats, especially in large doses, as it is an aspirin relative.  This might not be a problem, but we weren't about to risk it with our tiny kitten.  There's peppermint added, too, which might not be a good idea for kitties, either.  We returned the Kaopectate and went to the feed store, where we found a better alternative that is supposed to be safe, a kaolin-pectin liquid for pets.  I thought other pet owners would need to know, as many people might not realize that it is no longer safe for kitties.  Please pass this information on to other pet owners, it may save a life.

Weird colors in IJ ep.1

“[...] by this time the sky has lightened to the color of Kaopectate” - p. 453 “Van Vleck said Hal’s face was the color of Kaopectate” - p. 759 I don’t know if it’s common in America or maybe I’m just ignorant, but I was quite puzzled about this specific color reference, even more so for the fact that is mentioned twice! Then the Infinite Jest Wiki freed me from my doubts:  ● brand name of parapectolin. A pink, clay-like antidiarrheal; believed to work by adsorbing the bacteria or germ that may be causing the diarrhea.  Thanks for ruining the lovely sunset color of the sky for me... now I’ll just think about this.
