Karakoncolos is a boogeyman from Turkish mythology. Described as tall and covered in thick hair, there are different kinds of karakoncolos, with some described as mischievous while others are outright evil.
They traditionally operate during the coldest months, where they stand on dark and quiet corners, asking passersby seemingly random questions. It is best to answer all of these questions with "black" ("kara" in Turkish), lest the creature put you to sleep or even kill you. Karakoncolos can also imitate human voices, and will mimic loved ones to lure their victims out into the cold.
