At the start, it was funny. Really funny. The new manager who was so clumsy she couldn’t spend a day without dropping and breaking something or falling herself. She would trip on the small step that took to the gym. She always dropped the water bottles. The third years were worried, but most of the team just thought it was hilarious. Tsukishima, Tanaka and Nishinoya were mean with their jokes, mostly Tsukishima. He always had snarky comments ready if anything she did went wrong.
Like the time she dropped all the water bottles and some of them actually broke. Or when she slipped and ended up knocking down all the benches with her. Or when she fell while sweeping the court and snapped the broom in half. Or when she was getting out of the bus when they arrived for a match and she went straight to the floor.
Normally, Daichi and Sugawara were the first ones to help her and she would be so embarrassed. She could hear laughs in the background and it made her even shyer. But every time she tried to do better, everything would go even more wrong. Like when she was tripping again on the small step at the gym and when she tried not to fall, her shoe ended up coming out of her foot and appeared 3 meters away. She remembered how embarrassed she was when all the team watched her walk (with shoes on only one foot) until she finally found the sneaker, their laughs engraved on her memory.
At the very beginning, she was clumsy but she was okay with it, she joked around about it too, and it didn’t feel suffocating. It was a characteristic and it was okay. But now, everytime she tries to do right only to do wrong, she gets mocked by it. Even when nothing happened yet. She realised that was not what she wanted, and it left her incredibly frustrated with herself and her clumsiness.
Then, she lost her brightness. She tried not to stand out. She would trip and be silent about it. She didn’t respond to the jokes. Y/n wanted to be normal. As normal as possible. She didn’t volunteer in carrying the volleyballs bag anymore, she would always fall down with it. She filled their water bottles as if they were made of glass. But most of all, she stopped talking about herself, about anything she had done that day or on the weekend, because it could turn into a joke about her, and she hated it.
“She thinks she’s silly but it’s so pathetic” — Tsukishima Kei
“We need a manager that is more professional” — Ryuunosuke Tanaka
“If she thinks we are liking whatever bullshit this is, we are not” — Yuu Nishinoya
“It’s distracting, really” — Kageyama Tobio
“You know, I’m getting a bit tired of intervening” — Azumane Asahi
“I don’t know if I can stand her much longer” — Sawamura Daichi
—
That type of negative feeling just grew stronger on the team, to the point none of them could really stand seeing her and her antics (that’s what they called it). So they would send her to fill their water bottles more than 3 times per practice.
On one of those days, she was outside filling the water bottles and the boys heard a sharp noise coming from outside. Y/n had dropped it all again, everyone assumed.
That was until she didn't show up when they took a break. They went straight to get water but she wasn’t there. Daichi took a deep breath, already expecting to go after her and fix whatever bullshit she did. Sugawara patted him on the back like saying “I’ll deal with this”. He went outside the gym, where she filled their bottles.
She was sitting curled up next to the water dispenser. Koushi let out a sigh. Still, he has always been the patient one. He crouched down next to her.
“Manager, what happened?”
She looked up, it was Sugawara. She trusted him. She looked at him and he saw her tear streaked face.
“I feel down”
“That’s not something new, manager. Why are you crying?”
“I think I hurt my arm”
He scoffed, that was no reason to be outside crying like a baby. But he knew he had to treat her well.
“Can I see it then?”
And when she extended her hurt arm, Sugawara held his breath. It was clearly broken, with a huge swollen spot near the wrist. All he managed in that moment was calling Daichi to come help.
Daichi had the same conclusion that her arm was probably broken and they took her inside the gymnasium. She couldn’t handle the looks, the clear smirk on Tsukishima's face. Her hands were trembling and she held all her emotions not to cry in front of them.
15 minutes later her parents came and took her to the hospital. That night, she did not receive any messages from the team. She cried herself to sleep when she came back from the hospital and wished the volleyball manager bullshit never happened.
—
The next day she went to school with a cast on her arm. She felt so embarrassed about it, about everything. She looked for Daichi and informed him that, if he and Takeda sensei agreed, she would leave the team as soon as possible. The excuse? It was very honest: I do more harm than good.
Still, that day Y/n was present in practice. At least that was what she planned. But as she approached the gym, she noticed it was locked. Doors closed. No sign of anyone.
After 5 minutes of waiting outside, Asahi came running with the gym keys at hand.
“Sorry, manager. I think they are all late. I’ll open the gym so you can enter and wait.”
She doesn’t focus on him opening the door. All she looked at was the small step leading to the gym. She couldn’t trip up again, not today. When she entered, head still down, she heard a loud noise.
“MANAGER, WE ARE SORRY!”
There, all the boys stood, saying sorry to her. They felt bad about her insecurities after everything they said. No, they wouldn’t let her slip.
“Guys… what’s all this?”
“Y/n, we are sorry about everything. You are a capable manager and we can’t keep this team going without you. We are sorry for the jokes and mean comments. Please, stay” — Daichi said as the voice of the team.
“I don’t know. I’m clumsy and my arm is broken. And I’m not a good addition to the team, if you want I can help get another manager.”.
“Look, we are sorry. You're clumsy but that’s your way. We are the ones wrong, because we should be helping you” — Tsukishima was introverted, but he knew he should take responsibility.
“Yes, we are sorry!” — Hinata was taking this very seriously, very different from how he behaves normally.
“Well, I can try but… you already know how I am”
“And we like it like that!” — Sugawara smiles softly, almost ashamed
—
After that day, there was always someone around helping. Kageyama makes sure you don’t drop the bottles. Nishinoya holds you when you almost trip. Hinata ties your shoe laces (because of the cast). Tsukishima helps you gather the volleyballs. Tanaka worships you. You are now more than welcome to walk with them home and Daichi will include you when buying food.
When you got the cast off, they did a small celebration before practice and you played a short game with them!

Transferring from another school to Karasuno. Your heart was set on Karasuno’s boys volleyball team, especially since you wanted to find your own people at this brand new school. At your last school you worked alongside with their volleyball team as their manager, thinking you’d fit right in with the volleyball team. You’ve already talked it out with the school’s coach, going over what you’ll be doing and introducing you to Yachi, a first year and Kiyoko, your upperclassman whom you’ll be cooperating with throughout the school year.
Right outside of the gym doors, you could hear their shoes squeaking, balls being hit and received along with a lot of yelling exchanged throughout the courts. This was it, the opportunity to make friends at this school. The lump in your throat was forming out of anxious thoughts. Counting down when to open the doors.. 3, 2.. 1.
“E-Excuse me..! I’m going to be your new manager from here on out!” You slid the door wide open with a bang as it recoils, the balls drop down catching everyone’s attention. It was silent the moment you introduce yourself, heads turned in your direction as you shouted. Your head is bowed all the way down, too nervous to look up at who’s staring back from within. The quietness in the gym was broken when Coach Ukai sauntered down to you, you slowly rose up to see his tall figure and bleached blonde hair.
“Attention everyone. Starting from today, meet the new addition to our team. She’s going to be working as one of our managers. You all better treat her with respectful or it’s conditioning for you all!” Cowering down, as Ukai points and shouts at the team on court before fully welcoming you with a tender slap on the back.
There your job as manager came naturally to you, eventually starting to feel like your second home. Refilling the boys’ waterbottles with Kiyoko and Yachi while gossiping on the way, making sure the volleyballs were in mint condition before all of their practices, setting up the volleyball nets amongst giggles. Sometimes you found yourself cutting up fruit for them to regain their energy. You felt like you actually managed to fit in at school, especially in Karasuno’s gym.
The boys loved your energy even though you sometimes felt like you lack the same level of charisma that they have. You often realized that you talk the most with Nishinoya, their libero who’s also the same grade as you. Noya is just the easiest to strike the conversation with alongside Hinata, they’re both balls of energy. They didn’t judge you one bit for being on the more socially timid side, but would rather hype you up and you were grateful for it because they made you feel so much more confident in yourself.
Despite getting along with those two the most, you actually conversed the most with Daichi Sawamura, the boys’ volleyball captain and a third year. You notice that he’s always thankful for you, even if you’re just handing him his water bottle he’d praise you for working so hard. Sometimes when he doesn’t see his teammates give you the same gratitude as he does, he playfully forces it on them. You couldn’t tell if it’s because he wants you to feel welcomed since you’re still new, or maybe because he has deep respect for his underclassmen even though you’re just a second year. There’s also this lingering thought floating in your mind, Maybe he likes me?
When it came to all of the third years’ graduation, you can’t help but cry out happy tears for them. You were so happy to see such a flourished friendship that was created in such a short amount of time go just like that. Seeing them all nice and fancy, you can tell they were all also trying their hardest not to start sobbing as they’re holding tightly onto their flowers while taking photos. The whole boys’ volleyball team gathered in the gym after the ceremony to personally commemorate the four with small awards, gifts and words of gratitude.
“Thank you guys for believing in me as your captain and as a person. Working with you all.. Brings me to tears knowing I won’t be back next year to see you all grow as people and my teammates. Remember to work hard!” Daichi’s face was stern and serious with a big smile to hide behind his watery eyes that peered around the familiar faces. His eyes landed on yours and didn’t move one bit.
Lining up for hugs before leaving the gym, you were the last to hug him. Stepping closer to him, he’s already staring at you with a joyful smile plastered on his lips with his strong arms opened nice and big for a tight hug. Reciprocating his energy, you lean into his warm embrace as his arms wrap around you.
“Daichi.. Thank you for welcoming me into the team and rooting for me. I promise I’m gonna take care of this team..” mumbling into his shoulder as you feel his head nod into yours, feeling his deep breaths rise and fall on top of your body The hug felt longer than the one he gave the others, everyone had already left the gym when it was your turn.
When you pull away from his embrace, you see that he’s got tears forming at the bottoms of his eyes. Upon seeing your shocked face, he’s wiping his tear droplets on to his sleeve with a tiny ‘sorry, haha’. You’re walking him out, while having a light conversation with him.
“This may be the last time we’ll be like this.. It’s a small wish. But, please let me walk you home.” At the entrance of Karasuno, you usually part paths going the opposite way after practice, he wants to savour every last moment with you.
You agree to let him walk you home, it was dark out and such a hot and humid walk back. The awkwardness between you and him since you first met was barely even there anymore, it was completely transparent. You both were so happy that school was over and for this little moment of peace after the storm together. You both laughed and shared some hidden secrets you’ve kept throughout the school year until you were at your doorstep, bowing down to him with your respect ‘til he waved his last goodbye.
A year passes by with your usual school life at Karasuno, except how you’ve become a third year alongside with Nishinoya, Tanaka, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita. The gym was always still pumping with excitement and joy whenever it was time to practice, especially now that more first years were interested in joining the volleyball team. You were placed in Kiyoko’s position as the head manager with Yachi still working alongside you. Time and time continued to pass, you made sure to enjoy every second with your people before it was time for you to graduate. Still, you were unsure of what you wanted to do when you leave your second home at Karasuno.
In the larger, decorated gym. The heat was radiating as people rushed in to greet their children before the ceremony began. A few friendly faces caught your attention. Was that Sugawara just now? With Asahi and– His eyes stared back into yours. Without a doubt it was Daichi, he came back to watch his teammates graduate. You felt this strange overwhelming feeling of happiness and excitement when you specifically saw him.
“Daichi!!!” you break out of your shyness to flail your hand at him, his grin grew wider when you acknowledged him. He was headed towards you pushing around with a few excuse me’s, he brought Asahi and Sugawara with him to come and congratulate you.
“Hey there new face, congratulations!!! It’s like we just met you the other day and now you’re gonna be on that stage with your name being called out like us!” You’re all catching up before the ceremony begins. At some point you noticed that Sugawara and Asahi drifted off to meet with the others. Asahi was about to spot Noya and started chattin with him like there wasn’t a year put against their friendship. Sugawara’s mingling with the crowd flashing his soft smile all around.
The announcement that directed families and friends to their seats meant that it was time to step away from Daichi and rejoin with the third years. A wave and smile was exchanged between you two before parting ways to new paths.
When your ceremony was over, you can’t help but have this grimace expression on your face knowing that that hole in your heart which was filled, was now aching knowing that you have to behind your friends. You’re looking down, walking out of the gym until you saw a pair of familiar shoes appear in your field of vision. I know those shoes.. Why do I know those shoes… looking up, it was no one else but Daichi, whose been waiting for you outside of the gym. Staring at him, he was more timid than he was earlier and it was written all over his face.
“Haha, hey you! What’re you still doing out here? You look as scared as I was when I first transferred here” You’re giggling at him with your hands behind your back. His face gradually turned into a shade of pink, his hands were a bit shaky as he reached out to you with flowers.
“Look.. I think that you’re an amazing person. And I really know this may be a fifty-fifty chance for me but, I really like you and what to know you more. Ever since I met you, I thought you were hardworking and very loving… it motivated me to become better.” He’s gazing at you with his firm and beady eyes, nudging the flowers closer to you. You’re in awestruck, always on the line of thinking about how others thought of you but you never realized the impact that you could make on them. Filled with joy, you’re absolutely moved to tears.
“We can take this slow.. So, how about going on a date with me?” Daichi delivers his words steadilyin the heat of the moment upon seeing your positive reaction. The crickets echoed while the warm wind brushes against you both. Taking the flowers from his shaky hands, you cried out a clear and loud YES!! While launching yourself onto him for a big bear hug. You feel his face morph into his big toothy grin as he’s swaying you in the air.
Before your fresh start in college to start earning your degree, you’ve been non-stop texting and calling with Daichi to plan out your date now that it’s summer. You often find yourself smiling at your phone or kicking your feet when you see his text notification pop up. You were just so head over heels for him as he was when he met you. However, you’ve both haven’t said anything about your current developing relationship to the rest of the others.
Arriving at the place he was going to meet you at, you saw his tall and broad figure standing near the entrance. Daichi’s more pampered than usual, wearing a simple but clean outfit that showed off his muscular build with a bag over his shoulder. He’s on his phone before he tilts up at you strutting down towards him, his face lights up just looking at you.
“Daichi!!” You’re calling out to him, speeding up your walking pace as you closed the distance between you two. He’s chuckling with his big smile, arms open for a hug which you gladly accept. Stepping back, you lock your hand around his forearm and lead him into the entrance with an excited Let’s go!
Handing in the tickets to the worker, the cool air hits your skin the moment you walk in. The blue lights of the aquarium hit your face while Daichi’s glancing down at you to admire how he got so lucky with you. Despite his calm and happy facial expressions, deep down he was a scared and nervous wreck, he wants everything to go well when he’s with you.
You’re both walking around the aquarium hand in arm, looking at the cool and erotic fish being displayed through the glass walls as you chatter together. Making a full loop around, you returned by the entrance again. You cleared your throat to tell him that you need to use the restroom before you both leave the building for dinner, he’s standing outside waiting for you while he’s taking out his phone to message someone.
So far, he’s only told Sugawara about his advances toward his relationship with you, making sure to update him and ask him for advice about what to do and not to do. You’re in the restroom staring at yourself in the mirror after you’ve washed your hands. You took this time as an opportunity to give yourself a pep talk out of anxiety, reminding yourself to be confident and talk to him like how you usually do as a way to keep your cool.
“Sorry, I didn’t take too long did I?” blurting out, as you head towards him as you nervously make an attempt to hold his hand as you walked. Your heart is pounding like crazy. Success! He’s shaking out a no, with a pleasant smile while he subtly swings around your hand with each step.
“Shall we head to dinner and walk around the area after?” You agreed to a nice warm supper, heading out of the aquarium. This time, with his hand tightly holding onto yours. Oh boy the way you made his heart almost skip with that action, he couldn’t keep the smile off his face. Your hand fit into his like a glove, as if you were made for each other.
Dinner goes well as you both chowed down on the most delicious food you’ve ever eaten while being able to break the tense tension that lingered. You ordered something different than his, though his dish did look more appetizing. At some point he caught you eyeing his food and offered you a taste. Opening your mouth, expecting him to spoonfeed you some, he’s snickering at your cute antics while he scoops it up for you.
“Is it good?” Daichi’s content watching you try his food with that happy expression. Nodding out a yes, you urge him to try your dish by pushing to towards him before you completely destroyed it with your appetite.
Daichi pays off the bill even though you argued within to split, of course he won. Both of you walk out to take a little stroll in hopes of helping you digest the big meal you just had as the sky continued to darken. Stumbling upon a little park, you sit on the swing breathing in the crisp cool air as he does the same.
“I had so much fun today.. I didn’t think this would happen at all when I first moved here Daichi.” You’re eyeing him, then back at the full moon that casting its light onto you. You giggle to yourself, thinking about how grateful you are and how far you’ve come while making your bestfriends along the way.
“I, did too. Um.. You know, the moon?” His face is tilted towards yours, admiring your beauty that was glowing in the moonlight. You’re facing him with a puzzled look on your face, awaiting to see what he’s about to say next.
“What about the moon?” Daichi’s breathing in a big deep breath.
“Well, the moon. It’s beautiful isn’t it?” All of your attention lands on him, realizing he wasn’t talking about the god damn moon at all. He was talking about you. You can’t help yourself but have all these feelings swell up inside you, unable to resist grinning out of glee before whispering a small I love you, too.
You’re both sitting there on the swings with a flushed and surprised look on your faces. I can’t believe that just happened.. We just confessed to each other like that. You’re both basking in the moment of silence and the clanking of the swings with the mix of the quiet and awkward atmosphere. Daichi’s breaking the silent when he clears the lump in his throat.
“Um.. so– If I may, can I do the honor and be your boyfriend” standing his ground, his eyes are jittering but filled with his sheer will that peered into your soul. His words echoed in your ears as you tried to absorb the question he just asked you. This was what you’ve been waiting for. You’re so happy you’re eyes are watering as your try to dab the tears off with your sleeve as you sniffle.
“Yes.. Daichi, you can!” clasping your hands over your mouth as you pleaded at him. Hearing your words, he’s never been happier than playing on the court with his team. Daichi’s helping you up from the swing as you wrap your arms around his neck, looking up at him with a massive beam as his eyes soften to look at you with a gentle smile. From there, he’s walking you back home, like that time where he graduated during that hot summer night.
Another year passes by, you and Daichi are both doing well in college despite going to different campuses. Every few weeks its either you or him at each others’ doorstep to go on your little dates. Any little thing that came between your relationship with Daichi was always overcomed by the strong communication you both shared with each other. That was until you’ve both received an invitation in the mail from Coach Ukai. It’s been two years, what would Coach want from us if we’ve both already graduated?
Upon opening the letter, you recognize the cute hand writing. It was Yachi’s! You’re filled with excitement as you tore the little letter out of the envelope. The first characters read: YOU’VE BEEN INVITED TO KARASUNO’S BOYS VOLLEYBALL BANQUET!! You were beyond wowed when you realized you’re gonna be able to see your underclassmen as third years. Obviously, you rushed to RSVP with the number attached at the bottom of the letter. You immediately texted Daichi about the reunion that was planned by Coach, and the remaining third years.
You’re up texting him and the others who’ve also graduated about how nice it’s gonna be to see them again. That was when you registered in your mind that you’re gonna have to tell them all that you’re now dating Daichi, their former team captain! In shock, you messaged him that you’re both gonna have to reveal this long, awaited secret of yours.
Days seemed to fly by, and the day of the reunion crept closer and closer. The day of, you invited Daichi over to get ready with you. This wasn’t the first time having him in your house, your parents love him, especially making him do chores around your house. You reach the bottom of the stairs to put on your shoes when you heard the vacuum being turned on in the living room, that’s definitely him being put to work, laughing to yourself as you call out his name with your hand on the front door.
Walking towards the front entrance of your high school, memories flooded towards you. It was like the first day of school again, your heart racing out of your chest. Daichi notices that you’re started to tense up and puts his hand over your waist to calm you down as he slows down your walking pace.
“Don’t be so nervous. We know these people. Let’s walk in and make them remember who we are.” Daichi’s gingerly smiling at you with a slight flick of light in his eyes, waiting for your reaction as you mumbled at him with a little Mhm.
The gym doors were open wide, welcoming the people who walked in before you. Letting out a deep sigh, you boldly followed after them with Daichi’s big hand around your waist. Everyone’s eyes lit up when they saw you two walk in. Especially Nishinoya who shushed Tanaka with his finger to stare at you both. One by one people started to swarm up to you two, darting down questions for you and Daichi to answer as if they were paparazzi. Luckily, Yachi’s able to pull you out of the crowd and onto the side leaving, Daichi scratching his head trying to respond to them all.
“Oh my gosh!!! Are you and Daichi a THING??? Why haven’t you told me anything!!!” Yachi’s shaking you by your arms as you laughed out loud. It’s been so long since you’ve seen your favorite underclassman, she’s grown up to take up yours and Kiyoko’s position as head manager of the boys volleyball team. You’re practically beaming with delight as you try to dodge as many questions as possible. The flood of people dispersed when you tried to take a glance back at Daichi.
Your boyfriend was in the corner talking to Nishinoya and Tanaka. They both had the most shocked appearance on their faces as they completely ran over to interrogate your boyfriend. You could hear them shout across the gym with a couple loud HUH’s and WHAT?? You couldn’t really believe it either, transferring in from another school, to dating the boys’ volleyball captain after you graduated. Not to mention how socially awkward you were when you first introduced yourself.
Yachi walks you over to the selection of food you could choose from to plop onto your plate as she grabs herself a drink. You’re sitting at the table across from her, catching up and asking about how the team’s been after your year left, waiting for Daichi to soon accompany you. Right as you thought about him you feel a hand on your shoulder, turning back he’s holding a plate of food as he sits next to you, greeting Yachi. Though, he wasn’t the only one who sat down at your table.
Nishinoya and Tanaka had both raced over when they realized Daichi wasn’t standing in front of them when they looked back for a second. They both sat next to Yachi, now the three are all looking at you both with squinty eyes. Nishinoya and Tanaka look at each other before leaning in towards you and Daichi.
“Aren’t you both gonna tell us what’s been going on and how you two ended up this way huh?? Putting the moves on our manager like that, former captain?” Tanaka’s jokingly questioning Daichi with his face inching closer while Daichi’s nervously laughing. Sugawara, who’s sitting behind you guys hears Tanaka’s voice over the gym’s murmurs and looks back to place a hand on Daichi’s shoulder. Daichi’s eyes make eye contact with Sugawara’s and your gaze. He was seeking for your approval before telling the team how you’ve come to be, to which you happily agreed to reveal to them.
“Well.. look. Actually, I’ll start from the beginning.” Daichi’s voice echoed in the heated room, catching the attention of others sitting at the tables near yours as they kept silent to hear your little love story unravel.
Yūko (優子): formed from the kanji 優 (yuu, “kindness”, “superiority”) and 子 (ko, “child”). The meaning can be interpreted as ‘kind child’ or ‘child of excellence’, but the kanji ‘yuu’ can also suggest a quiet and reserved nature.
Akatsuki (暁): referring to dawn or the moment when the sun rises.
2nd year, Karasuno – Manager of the female volleyball team.
Yuko is a bit germophobic: she is allergic to every type of pollen, plant, and flower that exists.
She doesn't like physical exertion, so she prefers to be the manager of a team rather than participating in training as a player. She likes volleyball, but she isn't assertive enough and she can't get the other players on her team involved. On the one hand, she is discouraged by the team's attitude, but on the other hand, thanks to her resilience and quiet perseverance, Kahori and Yuko have gotten to know each other better and become friends.
She is very good at school and loves devising strategies (it is no coincidence that she is a keen D&D player), but she has always found it difficult to socialise because people are intimidated by her somewhat gloomy, sometimes sulky demeanour. In reality, Yuko is simply shy and reserved.
She often wears a mask because she is afraid of getting sick and because she sneezes frequently due to her numerous allergies (in reality, her antibodies could literally fight off any type of germ, but she lives with the fear that this isn't the case).
She would be capable of asking the person she is about to shake hands with to clean their hands with hand sanitiser, and if they don't have any, she would offer them some and kindly ask them to disinfect their hands.
She loves wearing baggy clothes, choosing jumpers and sweatshirts that are one size too big... according to her, “to hide herself better”.
She has a crush on Asahi Azumane, but every time the two meet, they end up making one blunder after another without ever getting anywhere (Will they ever get closer? Who knows).
Current concern --> When she shakes someone's hand, she wonders, “How many unfamiliar hands did they shake before shaking mine... and how many colonies of bacteria did they just transfer to me?”

Please welcome my dear friend's OC (i.e. the one who drew my OC Kahori). I hope you enjoy her <3.
I have already written three oneshots with Kahori and Yuko, so you can get to know her better.
Karasuno featuring Seijoh x female! manager (she/her pronouns)
Warnings: pure fluff
AN: This is probably the cutest anon request ever 🥹
Let me just say this
Kageyama might be “king of the court” but YN is “Queen of Karasuno” 👸
Honestly these boys absolutely worship you
Literally, they act as if they don’t have three managers
They literally will lay down in a puddle of mud while you step on them
Will do the above 👆 for any of their three managers
But you, you my love are super special to our boys
Why you ask?
Well it’s because you provide them with nutrients to survive 😌
That’s right, your love of baking and the fine art of culinary creations only helps you out with our beloved crows
You’ve learned to cater to all their needs
Filling recipes with top tier ingredients for success
Things like fruits, nuts, and even sneaking some veggies in there
Like zucchini bread or carrot cake
Listen, even if it’s in a desert, it still counts as a fruit or veggie
I don’t want to hear “tHe SuGaR cAnCeLs It OuT”
Because like these boys need the sugar to run and jump all over the place ok 🤚🏻
You bake almost daily as a form of stress release and therapy
Please you need it with the team you manage 🙄
And you always bring in the treats for the boys!
And they ALWAYS eat them up
“These are fantastic Yn what are they called?” Hinata asks
“They are Fudgy Pumpkin Brownie bites! It’s a new recipe!” You exclaim as Kageyama and Noya go in for thirds
“You fit a whole pumpkin in here Yn?!?” Hinata : D
You 👉🏻😐
“I think she means that there is pumpkin in the recipe not one per bite,” Ennoshita explains
I never claimed they were smart Yn
Anyways, you are always there to help our precious boys fill their bellies
You are in charge of snacks for games and practice, often finding joy in everything you do
So when the prelims for the road to spring nationals start, you are busy whipping up some goodies
You bake the entire weekend before, preparing for every possible scenario
Protein muffins for in between matches
Chocolate chip cookies for after they win matches
You even prepare some of your famous Strawberry shortcake cookies just incase the boys happen to lose
Not that we think they will, don’t get me wrong but it’s always nice to be prepared
Anyways, the prelims start and Karasuno dominates
Like, did we really thinking they wouldn’t 💅
Anyways, tensions run high as the boys go into their match with Seijoh
You remember the first time they fought against Seijoh and how the loss crushed them
But fueled up on your high-protein muffins, these boys are ready to kick butt!
And kick butt they do!
They beat Seijoh and prepare to meet Shiratorizawa in the finals
After the game, you notice how upset Seijoh is after their loss
You knew this was the third years last tournament and seeing them cry hurt
You thought about if it was your boys
And with that, there was only one thing left to do
So you pulled out a piece of paper and wrote a little note and stuck it in the box of cookies
As your team was preparing to leave, you grabbed your box of Strawberry Shortcake cookies and ran over to Seijoh
Karasuno rn 👉🏻👀
“Excuse me?” You said as the entire Seijoh team turned around and looked at you
“You guys played an excellent game and you deserve these,” you said handing Seijoh your expertly wrapped cookies
Oikawa accepted, saying nothing
Please you left him speechless
Too bad Kunimi’s too sad to even record this moment 😭
You smile and wave as you run back to your team
Meanwhile, back the gym the Seijoh boys are extremely sad
“Hey what did that manager from Karasuno give you Oikawa?” Kindaichi asked as Oikawa reached for the box
He reached for it, opening it as the note slipped out
Iwa picked the note up and began reading it
It read “Thank you for playing your hardest! You deserve these. Xoxo YN, Karasuno’s Manager”
“It’s cookies,” Oikawa said as he began to pass them around and Iwa showed Oiks the note
Oikawa rn 👉🏻😐🥺😭
Please the entire Seijoh team is eating your cookies and crying Yn 😩
The next few days go by
You are in the gym taking notes when a teacher comes to get you
“Excuse me?”
“Yes,” Takeda asks
“Umm there is a team of boys at the front gate here to see Yn,” the teacher says
Karasuno 👉🏻 a team…. OF BOYS 😐😑
Tanaka and Noya 👉🏻 FOR YN?!?? 😡🤬
“Oh my ok!” You say, getting up and walking towards the gates of Karasuno
Tanaka, Noya, Kags and Hinata are ready to go
It takes the entire rest of the team to hold them back 🙄
“WHAT IF THEY KIDNAP YN??” Noya shouts
“They literally showed up at the front of school in broad daylight, like that’s gonna happen,” Suga say, rolling his eyes
“Someone has never watched dateline before,” Tanaka adds
Of course, you ignore them and head for the gates
As you approach, you see the white track suits
You 👉🏻😐😳
“Umm hi,” you say as the boys of Seijoh all look at you
“Team!” Oikawa shouts and they all scream
“THANK YOU FOR THE COOKIES YN!” while bowing
You rn 👉🏻😐😳🥹
“You are so welcome! Thank you for coming!” You say smiling and going to hug them
You hug Iwa first and boy is he stiff 😅
It’s safe to say the entire Seijoh team is now in love with you Yn 🥰
Bonus
“Omg is Oikawa crying?” Kageyama says, shoving Hinata out of the way as they watch around the corner.
“Hey watch it butthole!” Hinata shouts as he pushed Kageyama out of the way.
“I’d cry too if YN hugged me,” Noya added as Tanaka nodded.
“You guys are about to have something to cry about if you don’t get your butts back to the gym RIGHT NOW!” Daichi shouted, looming over them as the boys all turned and ran back to the gym.
HI HELLO!!! I would like 2 request some haikyuu! Manager fluffy headcanons please??? Some of the fem! reader being chubby and popular, it can be either platonic or romantic! I also love your writing ✍️ have a good day/night 💗💗
Hello! That is honestly such a cute request and I have a few ideas for it hehehe
I’m going to do this for Karasuno and Nekoma, if you would like other teams, send in a request again saying which ones you want.
(For those who have sent in requests, don't worry, I'm getting round to writing them all up)
“Nah, I think she’s perfect the way she is”
Karasuno
In all honesty, you were really into music and you wanted to sign up for a music club, so when you found yourself standing in the gym, you couldn’t have felt any more out of place.
It seems there was a bit of a mix up with the sign up sheets and you ended up becoming the manager for the boy’s volleyball team.
You don’t know shit about volleyball.
You talked with the teachers and they said it may take some time for them to go through the sign up sheets and find an empty spot in the music club for you to switch into.
So for now, it seems like you're stuck being the boy's volleyball manager.
On your first day, you were very confused about what exactly you should be doing. I mean the team already has a coach and an qualified teacher with them, what can a student manager do?
So you just sat around, watching the boys practice while the coach yells at them. You weren't going to lie, you got a little bored...
Next few days, you would do the same thing, you even used the time to get homework done, since you thought you'd rather do something than do nothing.
You won't lie to yourself, you weren't popular, or that's what you thought, just known by everyone because of how you looked. You knew you weighed more than the other girls in your class, it didn't bother you all that much and you did always try to see the better side of things.
But that doesn't mean that everyone else thought the same.
You were eating lunch with your friends in the school courtyard when a student walking by with his friends yelled out names at you like "piggy", "diabeto" and "fat cow". You didn't really take words like that to heart, they never were all that creative with the name calling.
However, before you or your friends could say anything, a boy from the volleyball team (you pick who) came and stood up for you.
You watched as he stood in front of you and started yelling back at the boy who was name calling you. "I think she's perfect the way she is!"
As you watched him, you couldn't help but wonder "had he always been this good looking? I hadn't noticed before...."
Funny how now you suddenly feel motivated to actually look into volleyball.
So next time there was a practice, you came prepared. You did your research, you learned the basic rules of volleyball and asked other sport manager's what they do.
The boys were surprised to see you suddenly interested since you usually sat in a corner dong homework.
"The teachers are taking forever with sorting the mess up, I didn't think I'd actually be here for here for this long. But since I am, I might as well help out." You shrugged when they questioned it. It wasn't a lie completely but it wasn't the only reason.
You glanced over to the boy who stood up for you the other day before quickly looking away again, he was smiling at you.
As the weeks passed, you began to pick up more and more about volleyball. It wasn't long before you memorized the positions and each player's weakness and strength.
The other boys were quick to notice your little crush and thought that it was probably why you decided to stick around, but later they began to feel like you genuinely enjoying being manager as well. You weren't a bad manager either, you helped everyone equally and the team as a whole.
Nishinoya was little shit though, you were kind and nice to everyone but with him, you're patience wore down thin.
You did get an offer to change clubs and go do the music club you wanted, you thought of going to both volleyball and music but the timings clashed often so you had no choice but to pick.
Volleyball or music?
Oh well, you can practice music at home and the weekends, it's not like you can see your crush at home or the weekends, right?
You kinda knew making decisions based off of a boy wasn't really good for you but even if you wouldn't admit it, you kinda liked playing manager.
You actually found it fun.
When you told the boys that you were staying as their manager, you were taken back by their cheer.
"We were worried that you'd leave us when you get the chance to join the music cub" Hinata said.
"Sure, we didn't get off too well in the beginning but we like having you around now" Suga smiled at you.
The others nodded their head and in that moment, you felt immense happiness wash over you, your face felt a little hot from the praise and you felt a little embarrassed.
"Thanks guys, I promise to get better at being a manager too. I still have a lot to learn."
At the end of practice, you were helping clean up along with your not so secret crush.
"You know Y/N, I hope you don't mind what the others say about you."
You look at him. "Say what?"
"About your looks. It doesn't matter what a person looks like as long as they are happy and healthy." He says, looking at you with a sincere expression.
"Oh that, don't worry, I'm basically immune to those childish name callings, but thank you anyway for looking out for me" You smiled at him.
As you both continued to talk, you didn't see the rest of the boys spying on you both through the windows, silently cheering you and your crush on. They all are VERY supportive of you both, even though they all suck ass at being cupid.
Nekoma
No one and I mean no one has ever thought of bad mouthing you.
You quite literally were the sweetest girl in the whole school, always having pure intentions. No one could ever hate you, you got along with everyone.
You heard the volleyball club was looking for a manager for a while now with no luck so you decided to give it a go.
"hello I'm-"
"Y/N!" A few of them called out, running over to you. You recognised nearly all of the members, you had spoken to them at some point during your time as school, even the ones that were not in your year. You knew the basics of volleyball since the school sometimes made you do that in your Physical Education class.
Yamamoto was all over the place, he could basically explode with how much joy he felt. His team finally got a manager. He was so going to boast about it to his friends outside of school.
What amazed you was how seriously the boys took the sport, you weren't all that much into sports or anything really, you struggled to find something to actually be that passionate about that could lead into a future career.
So you weren't able to understand but respected their dedication and efforts nonetheless.
You were really good and hyping the boys up and giving them motivation when they needed it, some of them became very fond of you.
Kenma would sometimes try to hide behind you whenever Kuroo would be scolding him, you would give kuroo a sweet smile and lie to his face saying "I haven't seen Kenma all day!"
Whenever lev would to the same, it wouldn't work out the same but you found it enduring still. You would let out a laugh before acting like insanely tall guy was actually able to hide perfectly behind you.
Yaku would often tut at you for playing along, saying that lev needs to learn but you keep taking the seriousness out of it.
"But he has gotten better though, hasn't he?" you would say back.
"Not enough!" yaku would reply back before huffing away.
Though despite you being all smiles and sunshines most of the time, you did have moments where you would get a bit serious.
During tournaments specifically, the boys were good, really good even but so were other teams.
When you get nervous you would become quite and have a serious frown on your face.
Kinda scared the boys a bit ngl-
lev would laugh tho.
Maybe kuroo too.
They find it cute more than scary okay?
You would give them a pep talk before their very first game, promising to buy them all ice cream if they come first place.
Though no one at your school has ever badmouthed you, that doesn't mean people from other schools wouldn't.
Since you were on the chubby side, you were prone to some bullying when you were younger, though in middle school it died down a lot. The boys never saw you differently because of your weight though, you were sweet and a really good manager to them so why wouldn't they adore you?
So when they would overhear people from other schools making fun of you just because of something as little as your weight, they didn't take it that lightly.
They would only stop yelling threats and curse words when their next match is about to start or the "bad mouther" runs away. Kuroo once nearly got a bit physical too.
You would then tell them to ignore that when it happens since there is not use wasting breath over people like that, it's not like you take what they say to heart anyway... well most of the time anyway.
But like always. the team refused to ever ignore anyone making fun of you.
It's almost like you have a bunch of protective brothers, they sometimes tease you but no one else can.
I do hope you like it! Let me know if you want more :)
a/n: oh dear. hello everyone. i am back, gigi is back and this is the newest installment of the manager series :))) i hope you guys like it and sending much love!!! <3
a/n: have fun :)
mm okay so this is a new series
or season?
the series is the managers and this is a new season because this is karasuno’s manager!!! :))))
everyone say hi!!!
she’s a wittle first year and shes a cute little thing but she got the energy of a rabid chihuahua
so this is how it you came to be
when mommy and daddy love each other very much-
hehe i kid i kid
but srsly, the whole bird and bees thing
and then boom, you were attending middle school in hyogo
you were a first year that was taken in by a pair of twins that were your neighbors
the miyas
miya osamu <3
and
miya atsumu >:3
they were what got you into volleyball in the first place even though you were more into soccer like your papa and even talked you into being their team’s manager
so here you were, freshly turned 12 (because you were the youngest of your entire grade) and suddenly responsible for a bunch of older kids
the coach helped you too of course but it was a lot of work and so when the twins left and you became a third year, you were practically a know-it-all with volleyball
flying receives?
jump serves?
you learned from the best B)
however,
when you were about 3 months into being in high school and as their current manager at inarizaki,
tragedy struck.
see, your parents were often out of town and tended to go overseas for business but when a plane that they were on crashed causing their death, you had no choice but to be taken in by your next of kin which was your uncle down in miyagi
he was your mom’s cousin but she practically saw him as her brother and you didnt really talk to him very much, apart from the times your mom called him and a few sentences of greetings were exchanged, but you knew who he was because your mom was close to him
duh, you were grieving and loss is such a hard thing to go through
the miya twins were there for you the whole time, even when they were busy
i mean like you lived at their house because you couldn’t stand being in the same home that you once shared with your parents
they didnt take it very well when you had to leave but they understood as long as you promised to come visit them soon so you get to see them play on the big stage
:’)
so here you were, on the train en route to miyagi where your uncle was supposed to be waiting for you
the time on your phone blared that it’s been nearly 5 hours and you’re supposed to be approaching the prefecture now
you’ve taken the train by yourself before but it still doesn’t make it any less nerve-wracking because one, you’re alone and two, theres a lot of people
you didnt really do well with a lot of people nor the anxiety that bubbles in you whenever you stuck in a place for a very long time
it doesn’t help that the worst thing to ever happen has happened
eventually, the conductor went around and it was announced that you have arrived so you quickly grabbed your backpack and your duffel bag before rushing to grab the one large suitcase that was at the back of your compartment
the rest of your luggage and clothing was already taken to miyagi when your uncle drove all the way to hyogo to pick it up so you wouldn’t be inconvenienced during your way there
hes so sweet
you pulled the handle and gripped it, nerves eating you away and sleep pulling behind your eyes but you couldnt sleep
you didnt want to
the doors opened and you hurried out, getting past the many people and you saw the familiar hair of your uncle
his bleached hair was pulled back into a baby ponytail and his headband kept stray hairs from clouding his eyes
‘y/n-chan!’ he shouted and waved
you cringed at how zealous he was and the attention he was receiving from strangers so you hurried over to him
he rushed to give you a hug as if you didnt just see him a few days ago
‘oji’ you mumbled in greeting and he pulled back, giving you a wide grin
‘man! i can’t believe you’re as tall as my shoulders! before, you were still a tiny little baby that was smaller than my arm!’
you turned red and began to pull him to go home because he was attracting many stares from blushing ladies
sigh
you guys reached his cute yellow car and piled your suitcase and duffel bag in the back so the two of you could settle in the front seats
he started the car and drove off the parking lot and into the streets
wow, it doesnt look very different to hyogo
‘how are ya, y/n-chan?’
his tone was softer and you turn to look at him
he was focused on the road but it definitely sounded like his mind was somewhere else and he was trying to concentrate on talking to you
‘’m okay’ you mumbled
he was there during the funeral and the only one to attend since your grandfather and aunt was in the middle of recovering from their surgery and your other family members had other obligations
as if this wasn’t more important
but he was there and you couldn’t be more thankful enough
you were only 15
you don’t know how to plan a funeral and a burial by yourself
not to mention their will and the passing on of their estate
like bruh thats stuff that you have no idea on what to do with
so keishin was there to help you sort it out and meeting with legal attorneys and you were lucky that he always made sure that you understood what they were saying and making sure with you that whatever you decided is your choice and it shouldn’t be influenced by him or the lawyers
keishin is worried about you a lot since it happened and didn’t even want to go back to miyagi afterwards but his store needed to be opened and he doesn’t have anyone else to run it apart from his mother, who he really doesn’t want moving around since she also just got knee surgery
‘are you sure? you know i’m here when you need to talk. i lost her too so i understand most than anyone’
he quietly comforted you and your nose began to sting as a signal from the incoming tears but you looked out the window and to the trees that you passed by
‘i dont want to’ you whispered to him and keishin nodded
he won’t force you but just to let you know that he was there and will always be there
you two drove in a comfortable silence and you arrived at his family home where you will be staying
‘this is where your ma grew up. its a shame she never brought you or your pops down to visit but it can’t be helped. your grandma is in there sleeping right now so its best you keep the noise down a bit but im sure she’ll be excited to see you, kid’
you got settled into the house quickly and keishin’s mom who you could call as your aunt was very excited to see you and you smiled and hugged her and stuff
apparently your grandpa was helping some friend with his rice farm and such
sigh. you remember kita-senpai so that made you sad
since you just got there, they gave you some time to adjust like a month off of school
but you come to find out that you were enrolled in a nearby school, karasuno, which was somehow associated with your uncle
keishin attended there too when he was young and so did your mom but was now the volleyball team’s coach
you were a little >:\ because you wanted to stay in hyogo with the twins but you knew that you needed to be taken cared of right now
you were still young and even now, grieving is a process that would be easier with family
keishin got you all set for your first day and you had to hide a laugh at how excited he was when he gave you your uniform
‘its like sending off my own kid to school!’
gosh he gives such dad vibes now
your first day!!!!
of course keishin got you a little whiteboard that says first day of high school written on it and he told you to stand in front of the door so he could take a picture
even his ma was giggling behind him while you were red at the amount of attention he was giving to this entire ordeal
‘come on! here’s your lunch and some allowance to get something good at the vending machine. i would’ve sent you off myself but i got a delivery for the store. you remember how to get there right? if not, you got the directions in your notes?’
you rolled your eyes playfully
‘yes, oji. me gots it’
keishin actually walked you to the school a few days ago to teach you the way there and my gosh hes adorable
you tightened the straps of your backpack and hugged your grandma and grandpa before venturing out
it was so quiet
the neighborhood that you lived in was the kind where old people lived so there was no sound of students talking amongst themselves
but about 5 minutes into your walk, you found a pair of students, boys, who were going to the same direction you were in
one had his headphones over his ears and the other was talking to him like he didn’t see the headphones at all
you could only see the back of their heads and noticed that the one who was talking had dark green hair and was shorter than the one wearing the headphones, who was blonde and was really, really tall
the only person was omimi-senpai
and that dude had to be around his height
you had your earbuds in so you couldn’t exactly hear what they were saying but you were just walking along and absorbing the scenery instead of hurrying to class
then the tall blonde guy stopped walking but you were too busy at looking around you to notice that he stopped so you bumped into his back and made a noise of surprise
duh the first thing to come out of your mouth was an apology
‘sorry!’
bro it wasn’t your fault that this dude just stopped out of nowhere
but this guy turned his head around at you and met your eyes
you shivered, scared at his glare at you
‘’m sorry’
you apologized again by bowing and walking around him to prevent anymore accidents
you weren’t gonna make a big deal about it because it was just an accident but you were afraid he was going to yell at you or something
instead of trying to have a peaceful walk, you were speed-walking to the school and even got lost once since you turned at a wrong street
but dw dw you just had to call keishin in a panic and after laughing, he helped you back to your destination
even google maps didn’t help you bruh
gigi fact: i went to dublin and was looking for nandos and we were walking but the gps thing didnt work correctly so we walked in circles around the city without ever finding nandos
in the end, gigi never got her nandos
anyways!
you went to the little office they got in the front of the school and you smiled at the lady
‘hi, ma name is l/n y/n’
she looked at you and nodded
‘new student?’
duh
but you nodded
‘id please?’
you fumbled in your bag and found your old inarizaki id because all of your other important ids were with keishin
lowkey kinda scary but maybe i just got trust issues
it seemed like it was good enough for her so she quickly typed something in the computer and after many clicks later, she got up to get something from the printer and returned with your schedule and what looks like a card
an id?
she noticed you staring at the identification card
‘it seems a relative of yours with the name of ukai keishin sent your information from inarizaki high, if im correct, and with it, your school picture so we just transferred it over to our database and printed your school id from there’
you let out a small sigh of relief that you dont gotta take a picture and you thanked her then grabbed your things
class 1-4 huh?
you wandered around and found out that the layout of the school was like inarizaki with the third floor being for first years and the second for the second years and so on
but you hate stairs
so you were kinda already dying when you made it up to your floor and by this time, students were already arriving
you obviously felt out of place and even when you started high school back in hyogo, you were already friends with some people in there and with the help of the twins, you were a bit well-known already
but here
you were a total stranger
a background character
an uneasy feeling crept into your stomach but you inhaled and exhaled before walking to the room that was labeled ‘1-4’
in an instant, several pairs of eyes were on you
everyone wasn’t there yet but enough that you wanted to crawl into a hole and die
who needed school anyways?
the twins already promised you a future where you don’t gotta work so it doesn’t matter
speaking of, they were messaging you now with how your phone was vibrating and you hurriedly ran to a chair in the back of the room to avoid any more attention
you pulled your phone out and stopped a smile from creeping into your face
it was mainly atsumu sending crying emojis while osamu was fussing over the fact that you only packed some sandwiches for lunch but you were quick to calm down his concerns by telling them that you were gonna get some snacks from the vending machine
sigh
you miss them
a lot
if you were back in hyogo, they would already be in your class, annoying the ever loving god outta you along with the other guy in osamu’s class, suna
atsumu is actually in a class higher than his brother and he continues to use that as a bragging thing
but you really do miss them
it feels like something is missing
but you weren’t allowed to be in your feels for too long because you felt someone looming over you to your right and looked up to see the tall guy from earlier, golden-brown eyes piercing straight to you
you didnt do the whole gasping thing like they do in mangas but you did freeze
he was definitely going to pick you up and throw you outta the window beside you bruh
pray for me
gigi: im praying for you sis
‘can i help ya?’ you asked because we aint here to be stuttering and stammering like little anime girls
but you were still scared lmao
he looked down at you with a cold glare
‘youre in my seat’
goddammit y/n
of course you were
just your luck
y/n things, you know?
but you looked at him dumbly
‘yer wha?’
maybe it was because you were scared of him that you didnt fully process his question
but he leaned down at you, glasses shining for effect
‘you’re in my seat, shorty’
he repeated but with an edge this time
yea no you clearly heard that
so you grabbed your bag and stood up, hurrying out of the room
maybe you can go back home and tell keishin you weren’t feeling good and you didnt wanna be here
that could work
so you were standing outside of your class, away from the windows because duh the entire class saw the whole thing and you didnt want them to watch you like thats so embarrassing lmao
your fingers were typing a message to keishin but before you could hit send, you hear someone stop in front of you
you looked up and was met with a man who was quite short but you could tell he was a teacher
god, if hes your homeroom teacher-
‘oh? are you the new student? i’m your homeroom teacher, takeda ittetsu’
the lord just aint on your side isn’t he?
you stared at him with this grim look in your face that his brows were furrowed with concern
‘are you okay?’
you nodded, swallowing and looking to the side
he just nodded along and gestured to enter the room
you cursed in your head but followed him, surprised that everyone was already there
did they just appear there out of thin air?
or were you really that out of it to notice people walking in
‘everyone, we have a new student today. she is a transfer from hyogo so if you could please, welcome her to our school. would you like to introduce yourself?’
if takeda-sensei didnt have such a nice look on his face, you woulda bolted outta there
but also, that would be embarrassing if you just ran out
so you nodded and looked ahead, remembering atsumu’s advice
just look at the wall and tune everything and everyone else out
‘’m l/n y/n and ‘m from inarizaki high school. let’s get along’
ugh, awkward introductions were never my thing nor have i ever transferred during a school year either so idk man
takeda directed you to a seat by the windows and was in the middle of the rows so you were ahead of the tall scary guy
but my god, you felt his stare the entire time
by the time lunch rolls around, you were already ready to go home
you were messaging the twins and suna of what was happening and they all petitioned for you to move back home and into the miya household
osamu: in favor of y/n moving and staying with us, say i
atsumu: Iiiii would like that
suna: *hand raising emoji* i
*cue tears forming in your eyes*
they were so cute
but you were distracted from your phone when a bunch of students started whispering around you and you looked up to see a really really pretty girl at the doorway of your classroom
and she was looking directly at you
aint no way
you havent been here but only a few hours
how have you already made beef with people?
she saw that you were looking at her and after a split-second eye contact, she was already walking towards you before stopping beside your desk
‘can i help ya?’ you asked again, feeling deja vu
man, pretty people were really freaking scary
then she smiled
small, but still a smile
‘i’m shimizu kiyoko, third year. i’m also the manager of the boys’ volleyball club’
ah! the club that your uncle coaches
so you felt a little better about that so you gave her a small smile back
‘o, ma uncle’s the coach. didja need’m?’
she shook her head and you could swear there were flowers radiating from her right now
‘actually, no. the third years would like to meet you and i was sent to collect you’
*cue the suspicious eye brow raise*
like we as the watchers know kiyoko is the absolute sweetest angel to ever exist but in a realistic point of view, this was still kinda sussy you know?
she saw the hesitation
‘the team wants to meet you but that might be a lot for you so we thought it was okay for the third years to meet you instead. if you would like, you could call your uncle and see if it’s okay’
nah, you werent taking any chances so you hurriedly whipped out your phone and pressed 1
since he was in your emergency contact :’)
‘oji, theres dis really pretty lady who says shes the manager of yer team’
‘mhm. mhm. shimizu kiyoko’
‘ahhh, okei okei.’
you ended the call and looked at her before standing up
‘lead the way’
she brought you down many stairs and into a secluded little hallway of the third year floor
you were a bit scared so you were walking a little bit behind her but saw 3 figures at the end, just talking and one leaning out of the open window
they saw the two of you and perked up
‘oh hey! you must be coach’s niece!’
the one with grey hair raised a hand
‘yo’ you timidly greeted
the one with the man bun understood your shyness and gave you a small smile
‘azumane asahi’ he extended a hand and you were surprised at how soft his voice was
‘i’m sugawara koshi but feel free to call me suga-senpai!’ he gave you a peace sign that initially made you cringe but quickly found endearing
he seemed really nice
then the last one with the short black hair gave you a smile
‘i’m the captain of the team. sawamura daichi’
ahhh so he was the captain
well, he was no kita-san but they had the same vibe
the same aura
that authoritative and leading aura
they were quick to ask you questions and get to know you better and such
then the bell rang and the older boys bid farewell to you guys while kiyoko was gonna walk you back to your class
not like you were completely lost or anything
but as you walked, she asked you a question
‘y/n, would you like to be a manager? i’m graduating next year and i worry that we won’t have a new one to replace me’
you looked at her in surprise
did someone say something about you being a manager in your old school?
you blinked
‘me?’
she nods, softly
‘you know our coach already and the third years too. it wouldn’t be too hard to be friends with the others but i do admit they’re quite rambunctious’
it might sound like shes complaining but you turn and see her with a smile
‘do ya think i can do it?’
theres that underlying fear
you werent very social and you werent outgoing enough to make friends with anyone and everyone
back home, you had the twins who weaseled you in to the team in middle school and high school
but now, you were completely alone and you had no one, essentially
so yea youre kinda scared lmao
she hums
‘would you like to see first? you dont have to do anything’
you still hesitate
but maybe you can just sit there and see how it goes
you could even walk home with your uncle afterwards and with him, you know you wouldnt get lost
so you nod and you were sent back to class which ended really quickly now that you got something to look forward to later
kiyoko picked you up from your classroom since she knew you werent sure where everything was and she asked you to wait outside a room while she got changed to her manager uniform
you were familiar of the manager uniforms since you had to wear it at junior high and high school too
you even still have your familiar red inarizaki jacket but you were too emotional to wear it nor did you want to wear another school’s jacket
kiyoko smiled when she saw you leaning against the wall after she came out and nudged you
‘follow me?’
you nodded, blinded by both her beauty and her striking white teeth
she made small talk with you along the way like how your first day was and if you liked miyagi
she also asked about where you were from and hyogo
‘i managed ma school’s volleyball team too’
her eyes widened at that revelation
‘did you really? then you know how to do these things then!’
you smiled at her but didnt really answer
the two of you were nearing the gym and could hear the squeaks of shoes against the floor and the balls that were smacking against the walls
hehe
she opened the door and you heard shouts of her name before they saw you based on their silence
you observed the gym and noticed many heads, including the tall scary guy from your class
your brows furrowed when your eyes landed on him but he only looked at you with a blank expression
the third years already knew you so they were giving you a smile
daichi, if you remember correctly, walked up to you and raised a hand
'hey, y/n! glad you could make it!'
you nodded
'shes just observing today, if thats okay?'
daichi lit up and clapped his hands
'of course! feel free to sit over there at the stage, y/n'
the gym wasnt like inarizaki where they had bleachers
it was just a metal box with a stage at the other side
but before you could go, 3 people bounded up to you
one with orange hair
one with a buzzcut
and another with a bleached fringe
omg tsumu?
they looked at you with wonder
daichi noticed them and quickly put an arm in front of you
'everyone! this is l/n y/n, shes coach's niece and shes simply observing today. please be kind to her'
he pointedly looked at the meme trio and they shrunk back with a pout
but you grinned and raised a peace sign
'yo'
they immediately introduced themselves to you with hinata, noya, and tanaka being the very outgoing ones and hinata being the one who was in your year while the other two were second years
you also met the quieter and softer second years: ennoshita, kinoshita, and narita who shot you apologetic smiles after they saw the surprised and overwhelmed look you got after the trio talked your ear off
‘sorry about them. they can be a handful’
ennoshita apologized but you waved a hand around
‘don’ mind! don’ mind!’
and you met the other first years
the tall scary guy was tsukishima kei and the one who was walking next to him with the green hair this morning was yamaguchi and was strikingly opposite to his best friend
he had freckles and an adorable smile
‘hi, i’m yamaguchi tadashi’
he introduced himself with a bashful smile
your heart exploded with how cute he was and nodded before sticking a hand out for him to shake
‘l/n y/n’
then the last team member you were introduced to was kageyama tobio
he is a first-year setter with dark blue hair and seemed to have a hobby of bickering the with the tangerine
he was kinda quiet and a bit awkward with introducing himself but it cant be helped that people were awkward you know?
in a way, he reminded you of sunarin
sigh
you miss them
but once you were introduced to everyone, you simply sat on the edge of the stage and watched them practice
duh, you just met them so you werent gonna have an automatic friendship with any of them but it didnt mean that you were a stranger to them
your uncle did eventually arrive and he already knew that you met kiyoko and the others but he wasnt really sure if you were gonna be there at practice so he was still surprised to see you
keishin would look at you often just to check if you were uncomfortable but he saw some sort of light in your expression, a sense of excitement and longing
he knew that you were a part of a volleyball club in hyogo too since he met the twins in the midst of moving your stuff
so he knew that you had a connection to volleyball
which is why he dropped the hint to the third years and shimizu about possibly recruiting you as a manager for the team
once nightfall breaks and it was finally dark, everyone clapped as a signal that practice was over
you felt bad just watching them clean up so you jumped off the stage to pick up the stray balls and helping them dismantle the net as much as you could
‘y/n, here’s the cart’
shimizu gently said and you smiled before pushing it yourself and dropping the balls in as you went
she watched you with a soft gaze and she was looking forward to training you
she feels that she made the right choice
keishin rounded them up as a meeting before leaving and announced to stop by the store to get some ice pops as a treat for their hardwork today
you connected to the meme trio since they had an energy that reminded you of your friends back home and how lively they were
hinata and you bounced off each other effortlessly and you animatedly spoke to him the entire walk to the store
did you know where you were going?
no
but you were just following along with everyone else
‘ah, now we got two shortys to worry about’
tsukishima remarked from behind you and both you and hinata gave him a glare
‘rude’
hinata huffed and you nodded
‘its like i can never escape ya, tsukishima. are ya stalkin me?’
you teased and he rolled his eyes before shoving your shoulder lightly
‘dont be so vain, shrimp. maybe its because we live in the same area and go to the same school. its just a maybe though’
okay, hes sarcastic
keishin opened the door to the store and you greeted your auntie who was looking after it for the time
hinata wanted to get some chips but you wanted a drink so you went to the fridges in the back causing kageyama to follow you too
you noticed him stand beside you, looking at the contents of the fridge and you gave him a sideways smile
kageyama turned his head a bit when he saw you and nodded stiffly before opening and reaching for his milk
how cute
you grabbed your f/d and met up with everyone at the front
the third years were fussing over the meme trio while the second years were watching with an amused smile
your uncle stood beside you and nudged your arm
‘so? you okay with this?’
you looked at him and smiled softly
‘its fun’
yea keishin hasnt really seen you smile like that and he felt a warmth surge in his chest
he wanted to make sure you could start over here and help you move on from what happened
this is the first step to doing so
daichi waved you over and suga patted your head as he began to talk to you
you met keishin’s eyes and he nodded
that night, you were on a group facetime with your friends
tsumu: oi, y/n! ya better not be replacin’ us!
osamu: oh, shaddup, tsumu. nothin’ wrong with making friends yanno
sunarin: how is it there? are you getting along with them? are they nice to you?
y/n: ‘m kinda scared to start over but i’ll do ma best
and thus, started your little adventures with karasuno volleyball team
for like a week, you followed kiyoko everywhere and just watched what she did
you found out that you needed to be in a club as a first year from your homeroom teacher who also coincidentally is the advisor for the team
he was so nice omg
as the days went past, you were quickly warming up to the boys and it was like you were back on the groove that you’ve lost
as a manager, you knew that you needed to be responsible while also being a friend to them
you helped kiyoko with the note taking and doing errands with her to ease the burden on her shoulders while also making plans to hang out with the people in the team
it helped that you were also skilled in doing some medical things so you would be on stand-by with the first aid kit just in case someone did something
but when kageyama and hinata start fighting, you just avert your eyes and pretend your didnt see anything
the third years love you since you were a quick learner and you already knew what to do and what to expect during practices and such
the second years were a bit scared that you would be like the meme trio but they found you were actually not that rowdy and they often stand by you to just talk
sigh, why must they always be benched bruh
you were close with them and because they were your senpais, they would also help you with your studies and tutor you
the meme trio thought of you as another goddess with their kiyoko-senpai but hinata and you just clicked so well together
i mean like yall make jokes and be the only ones that laugh at it
kageyama is more distant and reserved from you mainly because thats just how he is but he does start warming up to you in ways like asking if you would help bandage his fingers and such
and sometimes, you grab him his milk before going to school and surprise him with it
very very cute things
gosh, dont get me started on tadashi
you got permission to call him tadashi btw
he is so adorable like help he is so cute
like yall are in the same class and you both talk to each other a lot during lunch since you have now joined their little group (much to tsukishima’s dismay) and you guys get along with your similar interests
but gosh, now we get to tsukishima
this dude cannot seem to forget about your bumping into him and taking his seat during your first day
‘gosh, shorty. remember when-’
‘tsukishima, shaddup!’
he loves and i mean LOVES to tease the ever loving life outta you bro like you cannot seem to escape it
and during practices, he will make little remarks to anger you or tick you off
like when youre on your toes just to reach for something in the storage room, he would somehow know you were in trouble and would make a comment
‘it wouldnt be a problem if you werent so short, chibi’
you turn to him with a glare
‘are ya gonna stand there an’ jus’ keep yappin’ like a chihuahua or are ya gonna help me like a normal human bein’?’
he laughs before huffs and grabs the cone for you but not without accidentally dropping it on your head
‘ah, whoops’
‘yer such a bully, tsukishima’
these boys adore your accent!!!!!!
so it seems that they do have an accent here too but its so faded out and its like a normal tokyo accent but gosh, you were raised in hyogo and your kansai accent is strong asf
and unfortunately i do not speak japanese so i cant explain it directly but theres certain ways that you speak that they find so endearing
like you were rushing to the gym since you were late to their practice because obe-sensei held you up with some sort of issue with your assignment
you were huffing and puffing as you stumbled into the gym and they worriedly asked you where you were and if you were okay
but you were just grumbling since you were frustrated
‘obe-sensei was goin’ on an’ on ‘bout somethin’ so not related ta the homework like didja need ta tell me ‘bout yer dog?! ugh god get the hint why dontcha?!’
you were so cute
like hearing you rant was so adorable and they were blushing at how cute you sounded just now
then training camp starts and you, along with the others, meet nekoma
AHH it was intense and you met the rooster head and kenma too
kuroo looked at you intensely before he lit up, startling you while you were taking notes
‘can i help ya?’
you ask and he chuckled
‘thats where i saw you! youre the girl in suna’s phone!’
you turn red at the mention
help that was so random why did he just say that
‘wha?’
kuroo laughed
‘man! now i remember!’
‘what’re ya sayin’, kuroo-san?’
you press on
‘kenma! come over here!’
he yelled for the bleached hair setter who cringed at the mention of his name and how loud it was yelled but still walked over, eyes glued to his phone
‘what is it?’ his soft voice fills the space
‘you remember the inarizaki trio right? the ones that bokubro brought to our last hang out?’
kenma looked up at kuroo with a furrowed brows
‘huh?’
kuroo rolled his eyes
‘you know, the training camp and how we met that one school in hyogo and we ended up hanging out after?’
‘ah, the twins’
‘same thing. anyways! you remember the middle blocker? i thought you had beef with him at first but you got along with him’
‘ah, suna’
‘yea him! y/n-chan is the girl on his lockscreen, right?’
kenma looked at you, eyes fixing itself on your face as if he was committing your face to his memory
‘uh, wha?’
you ask again
bruh youre the emoticon O.O
then he nodded
‘mhm’
you turned red, freezing and voices tuned out and your team was worriedly asking if you were okay but nah, not really
HAHA ENOUGH OF THAT
because of how young you are, the third years tend to treat you like you were a baby and at first it bothered you with how caring they were since you didnt really know them that well and they were already taking care of you
there was still some underlying trauma from your parents death that haunts you
the guys dont know what happened or anything like that because obviously that was your business and nobody else’s
all they know is that you were from hyogo and transferred over here to miyagi and now live with your uncle
one day, you got a phone call from the legal attorneys with them explaining that all of the stuff was being finalized and you were finally finished with the longest months of your life
it was during a school day and you needed absolute privacy so you were at the back of the gym since one, the rooftop had too many cliche stuff happen up there and there has to be someone that could go up there and two, the volleyball gym wasnt exactly a popular hangout spot for anyone and three, the back of it was rarely visited by any of your team members and most of them would be in class anyways so they wouldnt be here unless they were skipping
but anyways
you were pacing behind the gym with your phone pressed to your ear
‘if you have any other questions, ms. l/n, feel free to call us okay? again, we are very sorry for your loss and offer our utmost condolences. there is always light in the darkness’
‘yes, thank you. goodbye’
you mumbled before they hung up and you stopped, harshly biting your lips with tears brimming your eyes and fists clenched around your phone at your sides
this was it
everything was done
you should be relieved, there was no more issues or legalities left to worry about
so why do you feel so empty?
as messed up as it was, those stresses and problems were the last of what connected you to your parents
and now that it was finished, it felt like that connection was gone
you sucked in a breath harshly, trying to not cry and make yourself calm down but you couldnt, sobs escaping you
:(
you harshly wiped your eyes and kept breathing in and out to stop yourself
‘l/n?’
someone’s voice called out to you from way in front of you so you looked up and saw
kageyama?
his eyebrows were furrowed like usual but there wasnt a trace of annoyance like there usually was
instead, there was concern
‘ah’
you mumbled before shakily sighing and breathing for a second before looking up at him
even with your puffy eyes and red face with tear tracks down your face, you still smiled at him
‘wha’s up, kageyama?’ you question and he sighed a bit
‘what happened? are you okay?’
he approached you cautiously but you nodded
‘yea, ‘m fine. really’
he didnt believe you but didnt say anything, continuing to look at you
your eyes glaze over and you looked down
‘please, don’ give me yer pity’
you whisper
kageyama’s eyes widens
‘huh?’
‘i don’ need pity, kageyama’
there was no malice or anger in your voice, just a little tone of embarrassment peaking through
kageyama understood
pride
he was the same way
he was prideful and would rather die than someone seeing him so vulnerable and much less, crying his heart out
especially to someone he knew personally
so he understood
and he also understood grief
no one knew anything about your past as their coach always remained tight-lipped about it
but he did hear from some gossip from his mother with the coaches in the area that the old coach ukai’s granddaughter died
were you somehow connected to that?
oh, the current coach ukai was your uncle so it had to be you
you looked at kageyama and you saw a flash of understanding
did he know?
kageyama turned to lean against the wall
‘would you like me to leave you alone? i promise i won’t say anything to anyone’
his gruff voice sounded gentle and you looked up at him
‘yer a good person, kageyama. but, ‘m okay’
there was definitely an odd aura in the gym today and you and the coach were acting weird but everyone didnt want to be involved in familial business so they left it alone
but kageyama was paying attention to you more than usual and running to you to be bandaged up
they were even shocked when he patted your head
trust me, kageyama shocked himself too
the entire time, the team were trying to make you laugh and doing more jokey things
they wanted to cheer you up and daichi suddenly remembered, in the midst of closing up and cleaning up
he got you a surprise before they were starting to do the interhighs and he ran to the storage room, everyone watching him intently
‘daich-san?’ you asked when he came out and walked towards you with his hands behind him
daichi smiled softly before presenting you a clothing
is that
‘welcome to karasuno high school volleyball club!’
they shouted and you looked at them with wide eyes, tears once again in your eyes but this time, they were kinda happy tears
you looked to the side to shimizu and she gave you a rare wide smile and your uncle too
what is this feeling
so familiar but so strange since you havent felt it in a very long time
‘thank you!’
you shouted with them and bowed to keep your tears hidden
you all went to your family’s convenience store to celebrate and when you and keishin got home, he pulled you to a hug
‘we’re here now, y/n. not just me, but the team too’
that night, you once again facetimed the trio and they saw how grinny you were
tsumu: ei, why’re ya lookin’ like that?
y/n: tsumu, rude!
osamu: yea, did somethin’ happen?
you shake your head
y/n: the volleyball team here is really nice
tsumu: ahhh, yer really replacin’ us now!!!! what would kita-san say hm?!
osamu: here ya go again with your jealousy
while the twins bickered, suna gave you a gentle smile
suna: something good happened right? i havent seen you smile like that in a while
y/n: yea. i just…
you trail off, eyes wandering to the black karasuno jacket hanging there beside your red inarizaki one
y/n: its not startin’ over. its jus’ startin’ a new part of ma life. and i think ‘m ready to do it.
