Summary: In a world of neon-pink sunsets and plastic-perfect mornings, Barbie knows that the best part of her day isn't her Dreamhouse—it's her boyfriend, Ken.

A "Life in the Dreamhouse" style AU where kindness is always in fashion and Ken is truly Barbie's favorite person.

Enjoy!
The morning sun in Barbieland didn't just rise; it sparkled, casting a glittery, rose-gold hue over the perfectly manicured lawns.
Inside the Dreamhouse, everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.
Barbie, dressed in a stunning gingham sundress that looked fresh off the hanger, stood on her balcony.
She held a bright pink watering can, tilting it over a pot of neon-fuchsia flowers.
Of course, no water actually left the spout—it was a dry, plastic "glug-glug" sound—and the flowers were made of the finest high-gloss resin, but that didn't stop Barbie from doing a thorough job.
"I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world~" she hummed, her voice bright and melodic. "Life in plastic, it's fantastic!"
She gave the plastic petals a final, affectionate pat. "There you go, little ones. Looking as fabulous as ever!"
Suddenly, a rhythmic rap-tap-tap echoed from the front door downstairs. Barbie perked up, her signature smile widening. In the Dreamhouse, a knock at the door usually meant an adventure, a fashion emergency, or—best of all—a friend.
"Coming!" she called out, moving with a graceful, slightly-stiff-but-perfectly-fluid step toward the stairs.
Barbie glided down her pink stairs—not actually touching every step, but floating just enough to look perfect—and opened the door.
Standing there was Mail Barbie, looking sharp in a blue-and-pink uniform with a hat tilted at a jaunty angle.
She held a satchel that looked suspiciously like a designer handbag.
"Good morning, Barbie!" Mail Barbie chirped, handing over a crisp, pastel-blue envelope. "Special delivery! It’s got a 'K' on the seal, and it smells like... surfboard wax and sunshine?"
Barbie giggled, taking the letter. "Oh, how adorable! Thank you, Mail Barbie!"
"You're welcome! Have a fabulous day!" Mail Barbie waved and did a perfect pivot-turn to head back to her mail glider.
Barbie looked down at the envelope. The handwriting was big and bubbly, clearly written with a lot of effort.
She felt a warm glow of Kenergy just looking at it.
Barbie glided into her kitchen, a masterpiece of high-gloss pink surfaces and appliances that didn't need plugs because they ran on pure imagination.
She settled onto a tall, heart-backed stool at the breakfast island, carefully placing the blue envelope on the counter.
With a gentle flick of her manicured nail, she broke the seal—which was, of course, a tiny sticker of a golden seashell.
She pulled out a piece of stationery that was decorated with tiny palm trees in the corners.
As she began to read, her eyes sparkled.
Ken's handwriting was earnest, with big loops on the L's and little hearts dotting the I's.
Hi Barbie!
I was sitting on my beach chair today (well, technically it’s just 'Beach') and I realized I haven't seen your amazing smile in at least four hours.
That's way too long!
I was wondering if you'd like to come over to my place tomorrow?
I've been practicing a brand-new way to serve the volleyball—I call it the 'Barbie-Bonus-Blast'—and it would mean the world to me if you were there to watch me play.
I even polished my favorite surfboard just in case you wanted to see how shiny it is!
Check 'Yes' if you want to hang out! (Or just tell me, because I'll be waiting by the ice cream stand).
Your best friend who also counts double as your boyfriend,
💙 Ken 💙
Barbie clutched the letter to her heart, a genuine, warm blush spreading across her cheeks. "Oh, Ken," she whispered to the empty, perfect kitchen. "That is just the most adorable thing I've ever read."
She looked at the little doodle of a volleyball he had drawn at the bottom.
It was slightly lopsided, which only made it more charming. In her world, everyone was always trying to be "perfect," but Ken's invitation was something better—it was sweet.
"I have to write him back immediately," she decided, her heels clicking excitedly against the tile as she spun the stool around. "A letter this nice deserves the best stationery in the house!"
...
The neon-pink sun had dipped below the horizon, replaced by a massive, glowing crescent moon that looked like it was made of white chocolate.
Inside her bedroom, Barbie sat at her vanity, the vanity lights reflecting in her eyes like tiny stars.
She had changed into her favorite silk pajamas—pink with white clouds—and had Ken's letter propped up against her mirror so she could keep glancing at it.
Every time she read the words "I realized I haven't seen your amazing smile in at least four hours," she felt a flutter in her heart that was better than any fashion show finale.
"He's just so thoughtful," Barbie sighed happily, picking up a sparkly, pink-glitter gel pen. "I am the luckiest Barbie in the world to have a boyfriend like him."
She pulled out a sheet of her premium, strawberry-scented stationery.
She took a deep breath, centered her thoughts, and began to write in her most perfect, swirling cursive.
My Dearest Ken,
Opening your letter was the absolute highlight of my day! You always know exactly how to make me feel special. My smile has been stuck on my face ever since Mail Barbie stopped by!
I would LOVE to come over to your place tomorrow. Watching you play volleyball is one of my favorite things to do—I'll be your biggest cheerleader on the sidelines! And I can't wait to see the 'Barbie-Bonus-Blast' in action. I just know you're going to be spectacular.
I'll bring some pink lemonade for us to share while we look at your shiny surfboard. I've missed you today, too!
Counting down the minutes until tomorrow,
💖 Your Barbie 🩷
P.S. I love the little volleyball you drew! It's going right on my fridge! ♥︎
Barbie set the pen down and fanned the paper to make sure the glitter ink was dry.
She leaned forward and gave the letter a tiny, perfect lipstick kiss right next to her signature, leaving a shimmering pink mark.
"There," she whispered, her heart full. "A perfect letter for a perfect boyfriend."
She carefully tucked it into a matching envelope, sealed it with a heart-shaped sticker, and placed it on her nightstand so she could give it to Mail Barbie first thing in the morning.
She went to sleep with a smile, already imagining the look on Ken's face when he saw her at the beach.
So I have a question! Please do answer in the comments!
In Barbie: It Takes Two, Ken has appeared or has been mentioned in the following episodes, right?
S1E2: First Day Frenzy (while on a video chat with Barbie)
S1E5: Delivery Debacle (again...video calls)
S1E6: Surprise, Surprise (multiple times)
S1E7: Start Small (on the beach with the Roberts' family...he was also mentioned by Skipper)
S1E12: The Great Outdoors Part 1
S1E13: The Great Outdoors Part 2
S2E7: Cupid Shuffle (mentioned by both Barbies, Renee, Niki, Teresa and Daisy...he appeared for a few seconds as well)
S2E9: Festival Fiasco
S2E13: Race to the Finish (Skipper showed the Barbies' last performance in New York to him through video conferencing)
Am I missing out on any scene of Ken or any conversation where he was mentioned in the rest of the episodes? If so, please let me know!
(Because tbh...no hate at all, no offense, but I was least interested to watch the Barbies pursue their music career in New York!!! So I only watched the episodes where Ken had a role, be it extremely extremely little)
Also, as much as I loved Ken's part in It Takes Two, I feel the animators had been unjust as they gave him such less screen time!!!!! I wish he had more to do in that series!!! I wish, in the upcoming projects, he gets more importance, because he's totally worth it💙...and not to forget, the scenes were less in number, but were LOVELYYYYY!!!!!
