A Pride Divided

“Keep up, Kashim,” Topanga called out to her companion as she marched dutifully through the plain’s grassy terrain, “I don’t want to be the last shaman to gather their pick of the crop!”

The lanky lion following her huffed and puffed in exertion as he, once again, spent a hot morning toting around her botanical finds. His legs shook with exhaustion as he carried her over encumbered harvest.

“Weren’t we just out hunting for thistle today, Panga?” He questioned in a winded tone; she wasn’t listening to him, as she never was. Topanga once again became fixated upon a small patch of flowers that he knew she’d soon throw onto the pile.

“Oh how lovely!” The lioness cried out gleefully, gingerly touching the flower petals with a gentle claw, “the daisies are starting to bloom! These will be perfect for the compote we’ll need later in the year!”

Kashim groaned inwardly, but good in good nature, “oh yes... how lovely...”

Being the Royal Knight of a king’s shamanistic daughter doesn’t come with the same responsibilities that a normal Knight is used to.

Though Kashim is trained and built like a warrior, most of his days are spent calmly addressing the local flora alongside Topanga. Even though he jokingly longs for his companion to do SOMETHING to put herself in danger so he could save the day, Kashim wouldn’t have it any other way... ♥️

i noticed that every time i try experimenting with styles, i always end up drawing kashim.......

the second drawing is modeled after the cutscenes from the drakengard 3 DLC. i don’t remember what inspired the first one.

Now even though that Kashim is Topanga's royal knight, he still enjoys flirting with her and teasing the young princess. But this is a problem, as Topanga is extremely awkward with any interaction with a lion of the opposite sex and becomes super tongue tied and often falls over herself attempting to get away. It's not that she'd never be interested in a relationship, it's just that she's never had the proper experience since she surrounds herself with her work in shamanism!

Kashim loves this about her. He finds her adorable and adores the time he gets to spend with her, watching over her as she scavenges for plants and creates medicines. Very little danger occurs so it's not often he has to be on guard, allowing time for him to tease her in good fun; making her a stuttering, flustered mess.

Kovu sees the flirting Kashim does with his daughter and can often times become annoyed and regret his decision in appointing him as the royal knight to the princess.

I have a lot of trouble with a character and a scene's colors changing when the lighting differs, so I did few quick color practices with my new boy, Kashim!

Kashim is a member of Kovu's pride but was originally a member of Kopa's. He too, along with his mother were one of the few survivors to escape the hyena raid and find refuge among Simba's family and friends. As a cub Kashim and his mother Oma sided with Kovu during the divide, and left Simba's refuge to rebuild the Outland's pride.

The young lion is Topanga's appointed royal knight and has been sworn in to be the princess's lifelong protector.
