Tsunade and Sakumo existed in the same decades right?(what with the fanon/canon theory of Sakumo or Orochimaru in line for hokage – [side eyes Danzo]) Which would mean Arashi's Papa Dokuso would've potentially been consulting w/the hospital while she was still in-village? Or in the years before etc - what I'm getting at, is would she recognize a startling-resemblance-to-Sakumo poison user who shows up while she's on her gambling-crawl? A Dokuso looking like absolute SHIT, as if noone has checked his tenketsu in ages or drained any nodes! (Idfk smthsmth poison users maintenance is important!) While he tries to lure her back a few years early ( ๑ ˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و

Tsunade is being haunted by Sakumo now, too.

That's... that feels unfair. She hadn't even heard about the White Fang dying, but there's no other explanation she can think of for the spectre of the past that sits opposite her at the gambling table.

"Oh..." she manages, and pulls her bottle closer. Her hand shakes as she refills her glass- at least the liquid is still clear, not red, the way it can be when things get really, really bad. That's probably a good sign, right?

"Tsunade-sama?" Sakumo's ghost asks, frowning, "Oh, damn, I- hm, I always thought they were exaggerating."

"Sakumo, what do you want?" she manages to get out, slamming another sake. It's not a good day, for drinking or for betting, and she's struggling to keep her spirits high.

"I'm not Sakumo," says Sakumo, "wait, you think I look like oji-san? he's like, fifty! That's- wow. I know the grey hair ages me, but really?"

He lifts a hand to touch his hair, frowning over the top of his mask, and Tsunade realises that he looks different.

Very different, actually- the colours have changed. His nose looks a little....off. and, oh, that makes sense!

"You cut your hair?"

"No?" Sakumo looks confused, "I'm not Sakumo-ji. I'm Arashi? You know my dad? Dokuso Shouta?"

"Nah..." Tsunade says precisely, "he's, uh, he's got black hair..."

"It's a really dark brown, actually," says the man sitting opposite her. "And that's not relevant. I need your help."

"I don' help people no more," Tsunade advises him, " 's'a waste. They all just die, anyway... All of 'em..."

"My dad's sick," he says firmly. "Dokuso Shouta. He needs your help."

"He's just gonna die..."

Sakumo's ghost is angry, now.

That's a shame. It had been nice, seeing someone who wasn't angry at her for once.

"Well. I said I wasn't going to do this, but, needs must."

Sakumo's ghost pulls two paper slips from his sleeve, sets one over his pulse point, and then the second on her forearm.

"Hey! What're ya doin'?!" Tsunade commands an answer, but he ignores her, forming a one handed snake seal with his right hand.

"Suitoru!" he commands, and Tsunade feels the sensation of all of her veins and arteries contracting as every toxin in her system (including the alcohol) is juiced out of her like she's a recalcitrant lemon.

"What the hell?!" she snaps, hit by sudden sobriety in a way that she very much doesn't appreciate.

The ghost in front of her stabilises, and she realises that it's not Sakumo. It's not even that brat, Kakashi. No, it's someone else- an awkward stirred together mixture of classic Hatake and her old colleague, with Dokuso sallow skin, Hatake eyes, and a sullen, disgusted light in his eyes that is one hundred eighty percent Shouta.

"My dad said that you owe him, is that right?" He's speaking briskly, too precise like someone trying to cover drunkeness, and Tsunade bristles.

"No-"

"Well, he's calling it in. You don't have to go to Konoha- the hospital at Tanzaku Gai can take him. But you aren't going to let my father die because you're too drunk to help a comrade."

"You've got some nerve," Tsunade stands, and almost stumbles from how she isn't unstable from drink. "Coming to me and making demands."

"Yeah! I do!" the kid spits again, and slams his hand on the table, "My dad is dying! Get your shit together for three days, okay? That's all! Just three days, and you can go back to wasting your life!"

The unfortunate thing is, she does actually owe Dokuso Shouta, and she owes him big time.

"Is it blood based?"

"No. His chakra pathways are clogging up, and we don't know why. The energy won't move."

"Chakra necrosis..." Tsunade murmurs to herself, and the Dokuso in front of her nods. "No blood?"

"No blood."

"Fine. But after this, I don't want to hear from you, or any of your family, ever again."

"I don't think that'll be a problem," the man says, and stands up carefully. "All the gods, how were you still upright with this much alcohol in your system?"

"Trick question," Tsunade sniffs, and ties her robe around her waist, "I was sitting down."

What's your favorite mythical beastie and why?

I've always loved mermaids! I don't know why, because they're relatively useless externally of water. But hence my inspiration for Pretty Little Thing, growing up on the coast of a county that had so many mermaid stories really sent my mind dreaming

My grandparents owned a chalet right on the cliffs, and at night I used to listen to the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks and the wind chimes out the front and picture mermaids dancing on the shore

I've always loved the sea, and always imagined myself at night just wandering into it and never coming back, somehow

Oh wait if Kakashi is loaning out his summons, atleast in ref to Wave!Arashi(ehhhfuture!morpheme)? That'd mean that his pack, as far as I'm aware summons being nigh-ferally loyal to their summoner- like canon&fanon refusing people their aid/signing their contract even if they're from the same family/line- and could simply say no thanks! to a directive! Simply reverse-summon themselves home! Those little chakra creatures! Were like.... yeah okay, I'll allow it.

!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm trying to weigh out the significance of characters having one summon or just a main one like Uchiha-sensei or Tsunade that allows themselves to be (is used the right word? Utilized?) VS characters with a group or a pack willing to do the same or not on an individual basis... Cause there's a chakra tradeoff in the contract, so ONE summons refusing their help could be a stalemate but if you've got a group like dogs, snakes (orochimaru looking at you), birds, primates –if one refuses a mission then you'd just not?summon THAT ONE for this request again?

......Kakashi having more than one of his pack willing to go with Arashi is just really fucking lovely.

the real answer here is that Kakashi's pack looked at Arashi and were like yeah he works for Kakashi the same way we do. It's not a loyalty of 'oh another summoner', it's a 'oh, another member of the pack that Kakashi is in charge of', so they don't approach it the same way.

The older dogs looks after Arashi the same way they looked after the younger dogs, and the younger dogs look after Arashi the way that they see the older dogs look after them. He's solidly on the lowest social rung of the dog totem pole, a baby who cannot look after himself.

Arashi cannot order a dog to help. He can whine, and beg, and offer bribes, and they are LIKELY to help, because they like him and they know Kakashi would want to help, and essentially act like babysitters rather than fellow shinobi.

....what if instead of a village doing the snatching, Orochimaru stole him? Like look at this perfectly toxic little dude, it sucks to steal from one of the only friends he's got in the village(papaDokuso) but needs must amirite? Orochimaru is gonna distill so many antidotes, create so many poisons. Thinking by the end of this nothing venomous or poisonous will ever be an issue to his survival 🎉

Meanwhile Arashi is desperately looking for an exit, he won't survive this he's not fucking Kabuto!! His Hatake mom would lose her shit, is Sakumo still alive? Cause if so Orochi is in DANGER lol how long do you think he'd have Arashi? Temporary or kids super unlucky and stuck as a guinea pig for years? Constant escape attempts or "if I'm still enough he won't notice me, like a mouse... or t-rex" ? OH NAUR Orochimaru was in the Akatsuki for awhile wasn't he - no nvm that'd be years away

I think it would be so neat to do an AU where Oro gets Arashi craaaazzzyyyy early, lik3 somehow gets him by like, surgically stealing a foetus and storing it in cold storage before growing himself a test tube Arashi a little before he gets kicked out of Konoha, and thus you end up with Tenzo and Arashi in a dynamic thats essentially '2 cats at the shelter who cant be adopted seperately' and then Tenzo comes home to their terrible ROOT dorm one day like 'oh hey niichan so i met this guy called ANBU hound' and thats how Kakashi ends up with 2 weird lab ROOT escapees living in his spare bedroom.

This AU features Arashi looking a mission desk Sandaime in the face and baldly lying that he doesnt know how to read, they didnt teach him that in illegal murder school, while Tenzo has a breakdown about his rude brother behind him.

Kakashi is enchanted. Who is this mini-me with the gterrible attitude and excellent senbon skills? He's keeping them both.
