okiday so this is what i was originally going to use as my bb fic but changed my mind—

so it’s a zukka artist modern au where both sokka and zuko are artists and it’s an enemies to lovers story.

zuko is like a perfectionist, realism artist who takes his art seriously but still uses each brush stroke as a form of self-expression.

sokka does expressionism and abstract art that he uses as a reflection of his mind. (it’s his way of coping with his neurodivergency)

and they meet at suki’s art exhibition and zuko is with azula and sees sokka’s art and is like “how did THIS get in here? this is hideous! lifeless!” and of course sokka is there and overhears and gets upset and is like “where’s your art then?” and so zuko proudly shows him and sokka says it’s boring

so they hate each other and try and one up each other in art and i think there might be a moment where like azula (sorry she’s being manipulated by her father) convinces zuko to sabotage sokka’s art for this final project / portfolio and and zuko ends up feeling really bad after seeing sokka reveal the project and everyone laugh at it

so he owns up to it (even tho it wasn’t really his fault) and they slowly become friends and sokka teaches zuko that there’s no right or wrong in art and art doesn’t have to look perfect to be art and also how to have fun with it. and zuko teaches sokka how to draw more realism and how to control some of his artistic impulses (but not in the way that his Tourette’s sometimes messes his art up) and then suki and her asexual girlfriend yue (it’s not relevant but I need everyone to know) help set them up:)

It’s an au I have in my head where Zuko manages to capture Aang in book 1 (specifically episode 4 because Suki/Zuko fight), never gets redeemed, eventually becomes Firelord and winds up having two kids. The oldest, Kaname, is sent to study in the Earth Kingdom, learns about the atrocities their ancestors committed, and winds up rebelling against their father with the help of a couple of friends. Also Aang, who they rescue along the way.
