alright time for a KATAOW AU that’s entire self indulgent… anyways spoilers :) it’s called Beasts of Flesh!

What if Emilia carried just a little bit of her brothers hope for mutes, BUT only if it could serve herself. Rather than wanting to just eradicate all mutes, what if she just wanted to turn them human and “fix” them?

Hugo had been first. He was made into a mutant first, so why would they stop there? Hugo would 100% be the first success, but at the cost of the start of his sanity (aka making him unstable mentally)

But when Emilia saw the others failing, she made two mute-hunting boys to get rid of Hugo. One was fully planned and came out on time, Elliot / project Centipede, but when he started losing his powers they moved to his unplanned brother, Alexander/project Millipede

Something something they get close to Hugo and then the lab goes bye bye (thank you Song) and they get out but separated from him at eight and five respectfully

Anyways they start stealing food and stuff from him and he catches them and Elliot basically made to be able to withstand the pheromones because… HE WAS MADE TO HUNT MUTES. Alex also has this power to a lesser degree so he can resist it but only for like a minute

Elliot mouths off to his, wakes his brother up, and runs away… only for months later Alex to be taken again.

Elliot goes to Scarlemagnes palace and demands his brother back, but scarlemagne haggles him and says “only if you’ll be my personal guard” so Elliot is like “okay, bet” and then scarlemagne says “I never said when”

So Elliot works for him for 2 years and warms up to him and everything and they talk and he realizes that they’re those lab kids and he gets upset and locks Eli away for a while until Eli begs to be free and Hugo caves because that’s that eight year old he pretty much watched over

Anyways Kipo shows up and he’s like “stay away from my dad :( so when scarlemagne gets imprisoned Eli goes to kill Kipo and visits him in secret.

When scarlemagne dies, he goes STRAIGHT for emelia. Like, with a bloodlust. Kipo tries to keep him from killing her but she can’t stop him from waltzing into FunGus’ lair and stabbing her

Other misc facts : Elliot and Alex both had extra arms, but Eli’s stopped working so he chopped them off himself

They’re also circus freaks and eli had scarlemagne make an entertainment district for him

Eli always has a small perfume bottle of scarlemagnes pheromones so if he’s ever in a pinch he can control them + Eli has his own regiment of mind controlled humans that he takes around on patrols and trains for the entertainment district

Alexander wakes up from control really easily so Eli sleeps next to him at night and keeps Alex calm when he does before “sedating” him again so scarlemagne won’t be mad

Owlhouse Kipo Swap AU?

When her Burrow is destroyed by the Mega Owl, Luz Noceda must put together clues, helped by the guarded Amity and the cheerful duo of Willow and Gus, to reunite with her mother and parent.

On her way to camp, Kipo accidentally falls through a portal into the Mega Realm and finds herself under the tutelage of the Monkey Witch, Hugo.

You know what after Prahm Kipo would totally try to introduce the mutes to holidays. I would imagine that holidays such as Chirstmas and Halloween stick around, though the religous aspects would probably be removed.

I'm guessing that the mutes doesn't really understand Halloween at first, but would absolutely dress up as each other and make fun of each other. All that pent up agression and prettiness didn't exactly go away over night. But it's still all in good fun!

"Ohhhh look I'm a timber cat I like stealing science equipment and eating nothing but pancakes!"

"Well I'm a humming bomber and all I care about is throwing bombs at buildings!"

Etc, etc.

But chirstmas? Omg would Kipo adore chirstmas! It's like her birthday, but she can get EVERYONE gifts! She definitely has to start present hunting a month before chirstmas so she can actually get everyone gifts. The mutes think it's a little early to celebrate another holiday with how close it is to halloween, but they give in with just how excited Kipo is.

Also mistletoe? That's the good shit.

It probably gets brought out by Lio as a cute way to kiss Song, and Benson asks what it is. Once it's explained to him he makes it his Mission To Kiss Troy Under The Mistletoe. He gets dave and Wolf to help because they have helped him before, and Kipo is still busy getting presents for everyone. At the chirstmas party Benson spends the entire time trying to lead Troy to the Mistletoe, only to get interrupted or a different mute butts in. At the end of the night it's revealed that Troy had a similar plan, but Bensin kept leading him away. The two actually end up under the Mistletoe Lio placed for him and Song, so they do get to finally kiss under the Mistletoe.

Also, Harris and Jamack kissing under the Mistletoe? Golden. Jamack actually spent the whole night trying to avoid it, only to be tricked by Harris and end up under it. At first Jamack is like "hey! It's not a rule, we don't have to!" But the entire party is already yelling at them to kiss already. Harris would be all smug about it, till Jamack rolls his eyes and actually goes in for a kiss, because wait what? He was joking! He thought Jamack was gonna chicken out!

Back to presents, Kipo is one of those people who can give really personal and thoughtful gifts, but you have literally no idea what to get her. And of course literally everyone wants to get her a gift, she's Kipo! Lio and Song probably gets asked a million times what Kipo likes. Hugo would probably want to give her the world, but he can't think of anything she would like. He could just get her what he likes, fancy items and clothing, but he knows that only *he* likes that stuff. Finally he settles on painting a family portrait, with Him, her, Wolf, song and Lio in it.

Jamack?? Jamack literally never gave anyone a gift in this life! What does Kipo even like? Braiding people's hair? Changing people's heart? Getting people kicked out of their gang? He doesn't know! Jamack spends not a subtle week shadowing Kipo trying to figure out what she likes.

On, and on Christmas day? You BETTER believe that Kipo has a mountain of presents for her. It actually takes her all day to open them all.

@amanda-519 omggg this is so precious and adorable. I love mutes taking Halloween as the chance to make fun of each other and good fun. To add onto it I think the adults are doing it to make fun of each other but the kids are doing it “cuz I wanna go as my best friend!” Mute kids doing terrible animal impressions of each other sound hilarious.

And ohmigosh Christmas presents??? Mistletoe?????? That’s some good shit. I love Jamack trying to subtle and Hugo actually doing something really meaningful. I love Benson and Troy being gay dorks too.

And Harris and Jamack under the mistletoe????? And trying to play it off as a joke??? Good shit good shit good shit

more KATAOW fix-it AU ideas up for adoption (spoiler warning!)

1) time travel... of a sort. everyone except Emilia get future memories sometimes, so the gang can do things better - manage the jaguar powers better, save Song right away, don't let Emilia have the journal, etc, and the humans are less fearful and angry towards the mutes because they remember their fun, safe and inclusive future, and vice versa. many of the mutes start getting along, Scarlemagne redemption is earlier maybe (doesn't kill the mod frogs, doesn't enslave the burrow humans, frees existing slaves... maybe, it's up to you) so humans don't mistrust mutes as much... Emilia has no army. happy ever after! you decide what happens to her. maybe she gets jailed or something. no "cure", everyone's fine and alive, hooray!

2) Hugo / Scarlemagne rescued with Kipo... yes. it's popular and I've briefly touched on it before, but I didn't talk about the greater implications. he doesn't enslave humans, so the tensions aren't as high, plus he lives in the burrow, so they get used to mutes, and he gets a good childhood, yay!! later he can get out of the burrow, with or without Kipo (most likely they got separated), gain power with his ability, and become a strong ally in the Human-Mute Alliance because he is with Kipo and his ability and newfound minions (the Goth Apes gang) are useful. also with him on Kipo's side, there is no Oh No! Scarlemagne Put A Bounty On Your Head! plot, which makes things a lot more smooth sailing for the gang because nobody's trying to kidnap them at every turn. they can focus on taking down Emilia, who is less powerful than in canon, as less humans are anti-mute. hopefully she won't have time to make the "cure", so everyone is fine and alive!

3) they don't turn Song back, so she's available for the burrow army fight and the final fight, both of which could really be helpful. don't get me wrong, I love their family bonding moments and her finally being free, but I also love deus ex machina, happy endings, Hugo / Scarlemagne alive, a lot less "cured" mutes, and absolutely hate how Emilia was beating a child up. she can turn back later, during peacetime, and have all the bonding in the world, they all deserve it!!

these AUs are more niche and about the "cure" especially:

1) saving Yumyan: if Kipo gets shot with all the darts, emptying Emilia's ammo, Emilia can't shoot Yumyan. (Kipo is immune. it's not OK to shoot a child, but at least there's no lasting effects...? actually, does it hurt to be tranquilized?) okay maybe if the Saviour Goose Of Plot Convenience™ stole Emilia's gun, she can't shoot anyone. problem solved.

2) somehow the journal gets damaged or lost or burnt or something. deus ex machina of some goose stealing it, Emilia can't make the cure, hooray! idk what happens after that, but the most is that she'll be stalled. back to being underground resistance, eventually her minions leave because inclusivity is more fun, maybe she turns herself into a mute, whatever. you decide.

3) Margot has a change of heart earlier, so she warns the gang before they go into Deathstalker territory, preventing them from being held captive. Or maybe they alter their team (preferably all-human plus Kipo), or go in with a plan, but ultimately they defeat Emilia, rescue Margot's brother, and make it out without anyone getting "cured". Margot and her brother join the Alliance - a few extra hands never hurt! they can get redeemed, or stay far away from the gang, up to you, but either way, reinforcements and no "cured" Yumyan (or other mutes) are good. also Kipo would stress less, and feel less guilty about Yumyan because he's ok in this au

4) (during the burrow army battle) nobody can hear Emilia, so she can't be freed, so she can't free the other humans, so all the humans get captured peacefully, no mutes get "cured", and they all become friends eventually.

A lot of people are possibly misunderstanding the scene with the megamutant DNA?

Those are the eggs were attempted to implant into Song.

They are doing in-vitro fertilization.

There isn’t like a serum lying around as a mcguffin. They were taking out emptied out egg cells (not sure if Song’s or not. Depends on whether easier to extract or to steal them from medical supplies which just is another notch on the case of poor ethics of her parents ) with a mix of DNA of Kipo her Dad and her Mom and the chosen mute.

Those were just potential siblings of Kipo that. either didn’t implant or just didn’t fully develop.

NOW: the AU in potential is Kip having a fraternal twin....or fraternal quadruplets.

But what if they can’t get them all out? Would Song take longer to recover?

Could Hugo not have snapped if he wasn’t the only one left behind so he didn’t feel singled out?

Kipo and the age of wonderbeasts au idea: An Au where Dr Emelia decides to kidnap mutes to try and find the cure while Scarlegmagne was still in the DNA burrow. These kidnapped mutes include younger versions of the mutes we meet on the show (Molly, Good billions, cotton ect). I can imagine Lio and song being disgusted at the treatment the new Mute prisoners are being subjected to and also introducing a younger Hugo to other mutes.

OOo this would be an interesting au. What would it be named tho?

Dr.Emilia, seeing that the Hugo Project was a successful in living through the mutation, wants to get a hold of other mutes to see if she can start applying what the team has learned to them and start curing them.

Lio and Song, who are working through Project Kipo on their own time, are so incredibly nervous at this new step. They’re planning to conceive a mutated kid soon and the emotional health of their now-teen mandrill kid has been in jeopardy for a while now. Adding new very pissed off and hostile mutes to this situation complicates this even more. They’re debating amongst themselves if they can conceive and then escape with Hugo before the new mutes are captured and brought in, or should they follow the original plan and wait until after Kipo’s born? But by then mutes mightve been captured and in the process of being cured at that rate.

The Au probably works like this. Hugo is born and mutated and found out just a little bit earlier than in canon in canon maybe?

In canon he was discovered while Song was pregnant/trying to get pregnant and that made him in his teens i think. (He’s only put to work for a limited amount of time before he then spends 13 years on the surface, and hes like canonically mid-twenties by the time Kipo’s up there. Someone did the math once a while back. But the timeline isnt super concise i think.) I also like the idea of Kipo not being in picture so they can further debate it/ maybe get input from a mute going “wtaf why would you experiment on your child tf is wrong with you why would think mutes would care for a hybrid freak???”

Anyways, Kipo isn’t conceived yet though that was def on Lio and Song’s mind. Hugo isn’t aware he was going to get a little sister soon and also isn’t aware that Emilia wants to capture more mutes yet. He’s just suffering. Emilia sets up teams to capture mutes. (I think Lio would be on the team because he’s been shown to do surface exploration a lot. So he’s trying to flub it without letting everyone else know.) And I can see her using Hugo’s pheromones on any primates they come across.

While the exact location of Lio and Song’s burrow is a tad unclear, we know it’s in an urban area, not far from Cappucino’s and within a decent walking distance from the Goth Apes/close to Ape territory. I’m assuming the mutes they capture are the mute spiders, Goth Apes, anyone traveling to/from Capp’s, Newton Wolves (they scavenge for materials/food near the apes seemingly.), Ratland Rats/anyone going to ratland, and Mod Frogs. I don’t see them going super far out on foot so it’s very opportunistic and limited.
