'On the roof-top' (detail) by Kate Cameron, 1912
A still life of carnations in a jug Kate (Katherine) Cameron (1874-1965, Scottish)
Kate was a flower and landscape painter in watercolour, oil and gouache; book illustrator, as well as an accomplished etcher. Her early watercolours were influenced by the Glasgow Symbolists, although less stylized. Between 1904 and 1910 she illustrated a number of children's fairy tales and legends, but her real love was flower painting. Her earlier flower pieces from the 1890s and early 1900s tend to be rich in colour and wet in technique but this gave way to a more delicate style with careful drawing and restrained colour, influenced by painters like Crawhall and Edwin Alexander. A prominent member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists, Kate Cameron exhibited widely both at home and internationally. She is represented in the Glasgow AG, City Art Gallery, Edinburgh and a collection of 30 etchings is held by the Library of Congress, Washington DC.

Day 229 February - Brown Pan Am - Kate Cameron (Kelli Garner)
I love this dress so much! It looks like a small houndstooth pattern in a lovely warm shade of brown. The cut of the dress is really flattering, and I love the collar.
In relation to this, I have been looking through some screencaps and still the only female character I can think of who John seemed to regard in that same intense sort of way as he often looks at men was Kate Cameron in Death in the Slow Lane. He evidently didn’t like her (totally justifiably), but she’s one of the few women he could actually appear to be almost flirting with. She is a forceful and domineering personality so that probably is why he reacts to her in that way, the same way he does tend to react to a lot of men.

Day 173 December - Green Pan Am - Kate Cameron (Kelli Garner)
Pan Am was short-lived but it had some gorgeous 1960s costumes in it. Particularly this evening dress worn by stewardess-turned-spy Kate. I love the ruching and the shape, it’s so flattering. Every evening dress should have a matching cape!
