If You Ever Come Back | Chapter Sixteen

Sitting there at Slices of Heaven, knowing that he’ll be seeing Kawaii~Chan in person for the first time in over a year is making him a lot more nervous than he should be. He’s sure Travis would have picked up on his behavior by now, but the white haired casanova was outside waiting for Katelyn. So, he was sitting alone at a booth, tearing a napkin to shreds. He was in his more casual wear of shorts and a graphic tee with a hoodie tied around his waist. He’s not sure if Travis is aware that he’s made it seem like a double date, but knowing his best friend, the other probably wasn’t even thinking about it like that. He looks out the window, seeing Travis waving people over.

Dante’s hands become sweaty, and he sees the three come in through the door. He waves at them, sliding over a bit so that there’s space for everyone. Travis lets Katelyn slide in first, and then sits next to her on the other side of the table, leaving the only open space next to Dante himself. Kawaii~Chan slides in next to him and he bites his inner cheek, nerves filling him. “Thanks for inviting us out to pizza Dante~Kun!” Kawaii~Chan chimes, snapping him back into reality.

“Heh, it’s no problem! So how are all of you?”

“Tired,” Katelyn mutters, leaning against Travis. It seems like she didn’t sleep on the flight back after the boat ride.

“Haha, yeah. It was quite a trip,” Travis jokes, though Dante catches the glance Travis gives Katelyn. Obviously, Travis is worried.

“Kawaii~Chan had an okay time at first. After a while everything became boring. Kawaii~Chan just kind of wishes that she’d stayed home instead.” Dante picks up on what she’s trying to tell him. He can’t call her Nana here. She’s not ready.

“Well I’m just glad you guys are back! It was really lonely without you all.”

“What about you Dante? What did you do while we were gone?” He hadn’t been expecting Katelyn to question him, so this caught him a little bit off guard.

“Oh, playing games, working. I hung out with Laurance a little bit, saw my mom and helped Gene with moving some furniture around at his place since Zenix and Sasha were busy. I also got a raise at work, so I’m making a bit more cash now.”

“That’s cool. Congrats on the raise.”

“Thanks!”

Katelyn goes to respond, but the waiter shows up and asks what they want to drink. They all order and then Katelyn and Travis both leave to go to the bathroom, leaving just him and Kawaii~Chan. The Meif’wa had been staring at the menu this whole time, and he gently nudges her with his elbow. “Hm? What is it Dante?”

“Are you okay?”
