Fond Farewells | Guin & Kate
Jon’s body was hardly cold in the grave when Avelina Beaumont had swept into Gryffintree Hall, offered her sincerest condolences for their mutual loss and then proceeded to take control of their home. Lynessa Valles would be the new mistress there, but she, in her infinite generosity, would not turn the Fontaine girls or their cousin out into the world with nowhere to go. They would be allowed to taking lodgings at Yilankale, in the North.
They were to leave as soon as they were able (which was not soon enough for the Beaumonts, it would seem).
There were many things about the east that Guin knew she would miss dearly (the warmth, for one) but Kate Miller, as one of her dearest friends and fellow resistance member, might possibly be the thing she missed the most.
As she walked the familiar path from her home to Kate’s, with a heavy heart she wondered how long it would be before she was here again. There were few places that felt as warm and cheerful as Kate’s tiny cottage. It was always clean and orderly and often smelled of flowers and baking bread. And, of course, its greatest attribute which was Kate Miller, herself.
Guin knocked softly on her door and waited for the answer.
