OOC | Jesper & Alaric
So Jesper probs remembers the good old days when Alaric was on the small council and Droyn was king etc etc etc and tbh I think he misses those days. I think Jesper would like to see the realm doing well. He can work w the chaos and advance himself and he’s not completely adverse to that, but I think he’d prefer a better world, even so, and Alaric was a part of the better world that might have been. Still, he’s intensely pragmatic so if it suited him to, say, stab Alaric in the back, he would. #whywecanthavenicethings
alaric remembers (and misses!!!!) those good old day also, haha, and that’s definitely one thing they can agree on!!!!!!
do you think they knew each other back then btw???? aka do you think he ever made trips to the east??? I don’t think alaric really had much reason to leave the east, back when his life was legal, haha.

Many Meetings | Alaric & Charles
charlesdegrey:
It was the rumors that drew them. Whispers suffused the area of a resistance that peopled the region, working by the dark of night to thwart the Queen and her pet dragonrider. Some said that this was a fabrication, invented by the weary minds of peasants who desired hope, but others said that it was true: the resistance was real and it lived and breathed with the eastern forests. For months, the DeGreys had been scouting the area to no avail. They rifled through the brush and climbed the highest trees, yet so far their search had turned up little and less.
As darkness fell, Charles set Roran and Arya to their rest, charging them to stay put (and hoping that - this time - they might actually listen, compelled by exhaustion). He also instructed them that, if he did not return within the hour, that they were to set out in the opposite direction with all possible haste. One never knew who one might meet in places such as these.
He’d tramped through the woods for some little time when he spotted the flicker of a light moving towards him, held aloft by a shadowy figure. Freezing, Charles reached slowly for his knife (the sword, he knew, would be hindered by the closeness of the trees) when he heard a familiar voice ring out clearly:
“Char?”
It was a name he had not heard in seventeen years, a name that belonged to a younger person: a happier person, a freer person. A name that had last been uttered only by Naerys as she lay dying. He felt as if a cold hand had crept up inside his chest, spreading its frigid fingers through his throat till all the air he choked in felt raw. “Promise me, Char, promise me…”
But Naerys was long dead and Charles had kept his promises and his secrets for over a decade. He had saved himself and he had used that survival to save her children. The dragons would come again…and, already, it had begun.
The voice was familiar and, as the torch swept upwards, Charles saw why. It was fitting, he thought distantly, that it should be a deadman who should again say that name. It was surreal, this feeling: seeing Alaric again after so many years passed, the world ended and shuddering into a new age of horrors.
“I thought you were dead,” said Charles, at last, sheathing his dagger again. The hiss it made seemed to revive him, bring him back to himself and, without another word, Charles grinned and came forward to embrace the man: the first true friend he had seen in over fifteen years. “But how very glad I am to find that you are not.” Pulling back, he clapped him on the shoulder. “There is much and more to tell you, my friend. Much and more.”
For a moment, Alaric thought he was dreaming.
Cassius had wiped them all out. Alaric remembered that day all too clearly. Dragonfire reigning from the sky as, one by one, they fell. Cassius had sworn to both Queen and country that none survived. How did Char come to escape? Char, who was the younger brother of Will DeGrey? Cassius would have known if he had not been amongst the dead.
He pushed those thoughts aside: there was time enough for questions later.
“Not yet,” Alaric replied, giving him a defiant grin.
Finding Char alive had given him a new sense of hope. He knew that Naerys did not survive – could not have survived. Aragoth was large and vast, but Alaric did not think that even Char could keep a fully grown dragon a secret for sixteen years. Still, Char had been dead and now he was not. He felt, also, that this meeting was not by chance. He wondered if Char had been seeking them out.
“Come,” Alaric said, “There’s a camp not far from here. It’s safe. We can talk there.”

Many Meetings | Alaric & Charles
Darkness had fallen over the forest and Alaric had volunteered for the first watch.
He sat deep in thought, as he did most nights, wondering if the inconveniences he and the rest of them had set upon the Queen and her rider was truly worth the great risk he was putting them all in. He knew that she would have all of their heads, but he also knew that she had more pressing matters to attend to than a few rebels in the woods. If all of her resources were put into finding them, they would have been dead a long time ago. And he knew, too, that without a more significant advantage, it was only a matter of time before they were.
He had no idea just how close such an advantage was.
He was roused from his thoughts by a noise coming. It could have, perhaps, been just an animal but he wasn’t going to leave that to chance. Standing, he made a quick torch and walked towards the sound. In the fact of his mind, he wondered if it was one of the queen’s men -- had they finally found them?
The light from his torch revealed the face of a man who stood behind in the trees. It wasn’t the queensguard. It was a deadman.
He took a step further.
“Char?”
Strong Mountain | Cedric & Alaric
Cedric watched Kate walk away with the half-winsome grin that always seemed to suffuse his features when he was thinking of her. He felt light, he felt half-sick, half-foolish, he felt happy, and lucky. He felt so lucky. He was stirred from this happy reverie by the sound of someone approaching. Turning around, he smiled towards Alaric. It was the worst kept secret in the resistance that Cedric was in love with Kate, but he still liked to maintain the illusion that it was a secret.
“I worry some beast will beset her,” he said, gesturing vaguely towards Kate’s retreating back, as though that were the reason he was watching her walk away, the reason he always met her coming and going.
Clearing his throat, he approached Alaric. Hoping not to dwell on the subject at hand, lest he should let more information slip than he wished to say, he decided to bring up the rebellion, itself. “I fear the future, what with the Fontaines being sent off. I fear for them and I fear what it will mean for the resistance. We won’t have any eyes or ears in the court or around the Queen, herself, anymore.”
Things would get much harder. Cedric had no illusions of things being any other way. Of course, Guin could still write letters and direct them to Kate or Rose, who could disperse them to those living in the woods, but still…And even beyond these personal concerns, what of the foot up the fledging resistance was already loosing? Cedric didn’t despair: he firmly believed that given enough raw nerve and a little key knowledge, Rowena could be overthrown, but he acknowledged this would be a delay and difficulty. The longer this took, the worse for them all, the worse for Aragoth.
“You were a part of the King’s council once,” he began softly. “Is there anyone you knew there whom we might trust?”
“Kate knows these woods almost as well as we do,” He said, placing a comforting hand on Cedric’s shoulder, “I would not worry for her safety.” Alaric knew as well as Cedric that such a fate may befall her on her way home, but it did not do to dwell on the worst that may happen and, more likely than not, she would make it home without incident.
For now, they had very real problems to discuss - what would happen once Guin left for the North. “It will be a loss not to have her on the inside,” He agreed, “But perhaps she will be able to gain us some allies in the North.” If nothing else, it would, at least, put some distance between her and Cassius Montagu. Alaric knew that his interest in her had proved to be beneficial to the resistance, but he often wondered how long that would last. Cassius seemed to care for her, but he had seen what Cassius could do to those he professed to love.
“There is no one else.” He admitted, “Anyone who trusts Dezód is a fool. The Queen has too much of a hold on her cousin. I do not know enough of Dmitrei Massard to trust him. Guin says that Romayne Vitalis appears unhappy with his situation, but is that enough to aid us?” And even if he wanted to, Alaric wondered how much help he would prove to be. Trusting him might not outweigh the risks that he would ultimately betray them to his own benefit. “Alexandir Godiva may have helped us once, but there’s little chance of that now.”
He paused, “The Fontaines may be headed North for now, but there is a good chance they may yet return. Arthur Arrington seems intent on marrying one of them ... and if he does, he’s likely to bring the reset back to the east.”
He couldn’t help but think of Elyzabeth then and he prayed that he would not choose her. He knew that Elyzabeth had wanted a better life than the one he could give her (and he could not blame her for that), but Arthur was a coward; a kinslayer and he did not deserve her.
ALARIC DE MONTFORT / viggo mortensen
♦ Age: (37) ♦ Relationships: Elyzabeth Fontaine (interest), Arthur Arrington, Cassius Montagu (childhood best friends), Charles DeGrey, Roran DeGrey, Cedric Boleyn, Guinevere Fontaine, Katheryne Miller, Rosaline l’Archer (resistance members) ♦ Description: Alaric was the only son and heir of the late Lord de Montfort. When Rowena took the throne, he was expected to bend the knee, but he did not. Instead, he rebelled against her and was thrown into her dungeons, awaiting trial and death. In the end, he was set free by Dezód. Alaric never learned his motives, but as soon as he was a free man, he took to the woods and began doing whatever he could to foil the Queen’s plans. Slowly, but surely, he recruited more unhappy citizens to his cause. Charles DeGrey, the younger brother of one of Alaric’s close childhood friends, has recently found Alaric. He brings with him, his nephew, Roran, who found one of the last dragon eggs. With Roran on their side, the resistance may finally be able to have a real chance to oppose the Queen and Cassius Montagu. TAKEN BY LIZZY.
Cassius: It was for love!
Alaric: Cool motive. Still murder.
Cassius, you’ve got some splainin’ to do
Brutus, Act I, Scene II (via incorrectshakespeare)
50k giveaway winner: taurielsilvan ↳ the grey company
A little apart the Rangers sat, silent, in an ordered company, armed with spear and bow and sword. They were clad in cloaks of dark grey, and their hoods were cast now over helm and head. Their horses were strong and of proud bearing, but roughhaired. There was no gleam of stone or gold, nor any fair thing in all their gear and harness: nor did their riders bear any badge or token, save only that each cloak was pinned upon the left shoulder by a brooch of silver shaped like a rayed star.
OOC | Adela & Alaric
I think Alaric is also the kind of guy Adela would’ve had a crush on/wanted to marry before she set her sights on the royal boys/wardens (also to be fair, I feel like Adela was a RAGING flirt like damnnnn she was the Cordelia of her generation except with a definite agenda to get herself the best husband she could and a LOT more sexual awareness tbqh). Bc, now correct me if I’m wrong, (I might just have this in my head bc Dmitrei has a council seat or something idk,) if I’m not mistaken, the de Montfort lands/power are pr extensive, yeah? And with his land and influence and her Beaumont wealth, she felt it could’ve worked out well + council seat = FREE TRIPS TO THE CITY HELLZ YES ;DDDDD But then Fontaine intervened once again ;DDDDD And now tbqh she’s probs really glad that DIDN’T go anywhere
Hahaha I feel like Alaric would have always been nice to her, but would never have flirted back ~*~HEARTS FOR EYES @ U ONLY ELYZABETH~*~ But yeah, ur right the de Montforts were pretty powerful but now they are all dead/wanted men ;DDD So he would have been a pretty good match back in the day. And yeah, with her wealth and everything, I can even see where his dad might have considered making a match between them but it wasn’t ever that serious of a thought (ALaric like ~thank god tbh) and I legit feel like the old de montfort would have been like “she’s pretty and hella rich but let’s see if we can’t find a more sensible bride for you”
ooc | Elyzabeth & Alaric
*literally five months later* I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH AND I’M HERE NOW. SORRY IT TOOK ME SO LONG.
AND OH WOW. OW THE PAIN BEcause that sounds perfect and lyz would TOTALLY have wanted that too but, like, she realized her place and as much as she wanted him and that life together, she knew her duty and ust aksjfklsdfksdf. I’LL JUST BE OVER HERE SOBBING IF YOU NEED ME.
but anyway, oh man. involved with her sister?? oh dear. well that’s going to be SUPER FUN TIMES. (isn’t her sister a rebel or something of that sort??)
anyway, hmmm. i think these two probably haven’t seen one another at all in the last ten years. didn’t alaric leave after she turned him down or something like that? … yesh wow. i feel like we plotted quite a bit on xanga and now i’m blanking on everything. i’m going to have to go dig up my archives, haha.
also all my anne/wentworth feelings just came RUSHING BACK so if alaric writes lyz a letter that contains “tell me not that i am too late” we’ll all be in trouble. *sobs forever*
Haha yes, when I say ~involved with her sister it’s because he’s the leader of the resistance and Guin is a member and yeahhhhh.
I actually didn’t play Alaric on xanga haha. I can’t remember who it was, but basically all of that sounds good to me? I can see him actually proposing to her and yeah, obviously she turned him down and he was like #sadface but he understood and he never made an effort to see her again and hELLO TEARS.
Also, he’s heard that Arthur is after her now and he’s not really happy about that b/c he was bffs with Arthur back in the day and he knows what Arthur did to his parents (yikes) and he’s like NO NO NO NO b/c Lyz deserves SO MUCH BETTER THAN ARTHUR. altho he’d be hella torn b/c he also knows that jon valles is living with them and if arthur did propose, at least she’d be away from him but still arthur is a kinslayer so do you really wanna be married to someone like that???
Anyway, I think on xanga, we did plot that maybe Guin would try to get them to see each other again (mainly b/c she doesn’t want her sisters marrying Arthur either, b/c thanks to Alaric she knows what they are really like)??? thAT IS, if you think Guin would know about them???
Or if not, maybe there was a place that they used to meet when they were ~secretly courting and maybe Alaric still goes back there from time to time, but Elyzabeth never does (or vice versa), but then randomly does one day and Alaric is there and INTENSE MEETING
(ALSO I CAN SO SEE HIM WRITING HER A WOODSWORTH LETTER AT SOME POINT AND THIS IS THE SOUND OF MY HEART EXPLODING)
OOC | Rose & Alaric
Sooooo much respect for this man like if he says jump, Rose says how high like she just has so much faith in him and like she’s been doubted by soooo many ppl and then there’s Alaric and he have her a chance to help him with the most important thing and I feel like she’s just intensely loyal and ASFHKKNBD
ALARIC LOVES ALL OF HIS LITTLE REBELS THEY DON’T CALL HIM PAPA REBEL FOR NOTHING. ;DD
Anyway, how long do you think Rose has been a part of the resistance? She’s obviously been w/ them longer than Guin, but I’m guessing not quite as long as Kate???? But I’m guessing she’s been around for years, yeah? Anyway, Alaric def trusts her with his life (obvi) and he’s not afraid to use her skills who cares that she’s a girl??? Not Alaric.
Also, I feel like Rose is like the daughter he’s never had??? And ofc there’s a part of him that’s protective over her but he also knows she’s hella capable and he knows she can handle herself and just alkdjflakjfladksjf THE RESISTANCE I CAN’T THERE’S FEELS IN MY EYES
OOC | Tristan & Alaric
Hmmm, so these two might’ve met back when Tristan was on his way up and idk came to court with Arthur and met Rowena and yeah things ended up going south after that but yknow HAHAHAHA Anyway, basically I have no idea. Any thoughts?
Oh yeah I can totally see that! And, especially if he and Arthur were friends, I can see Tristan being kinda like ~Char and tagging along with Alaric/Will/Cassius/Arthur from time to time and iCRY
I feel like Alaric would have really liked Tristan back in the day and would have been all:
Alaric: How about them older Fontaine girls tho?
Arthur: Damn, u right they fine
Alaric: No one asked you
But aCTually I think he would never have thought that Tristan would become an assassin and kill off half the royal family and now he’s just like :////// b/c u know all his friends are dead/traitors
Anyway, I’m not sure that he’s seen Tristan since all of that went down??? Since I’m sure he has orders to kill him if he’s ever found b/c ~fugitive and all.
‘The wealth of Moria was not in gold or jewels – but mithril.’
OOC | Lucian & Alaric
So Lucian probs knew Alaric back in the day when he was Lord de Montfort, yeah??? I feel like he appreciated Alaric alot. “He was a sensible lord.” But now he’s an outlaw and so that’s over #sorrynotsorry He’s not risking the North for one reasonable lord
Lucian: gdI Alaric THAT'S NOT WHAT SENSIBLE LORDS DO.
But, I can weirdly see Alaric respecting Lucian back in the day??? I mean, I feel like they didn't agree on everything (I feel like Lucian's kinda severe and Alaric's morals/values don't always align with Lucian's) but I do think that Alaric would appreciate that Lucian is more reasonable than half the ppl are (especially when he's standing next to his bro) but wow if he ever met rowlin, he'd be like "dude ... you need to do something about that???"
