Such a beautiful beautiful book. I didn’t know I would come to like it as much as I do. I found myself in the middle of the book, wondering how it all had started, completely consumed by the story. Reading it made me nostalgic, as if thinking back at fond memories of my youth.

Inte för nära (original titel: Close enough to Touch) - Colleen Oakley

After a couple of pages into the book, I knew I would come to love it, and from then on I was completely consumed by it. Following the protagonist struggles and needs in life made her very relatable and kept me wanting to know more about her. And you couldn’t imagine a better ending.

This book grew on me the more I read it. At first I really didn't like the protagonist, him being very passive. But as the story progressed and him getting out if his shell, I became very fond of the story and it's characters.

This must be my favorite book by Christina Lauren so far. The feeling of the book remainded me of David Nicholls One day, making it into an instant classic. Definitely a reread.

Livro: Uma pitada de amor

Oi gente ☺ tudo bem?

Primeiro de tudo, quero pedir desculpas pela nossa ausência na semana passada. Infelizmente todas nós ficamos presas com afazeres da vida e não conseguimos postar :/

Mas já voltamos e agora lá vai mais uma dica de leitura, pra começar bem a semana: 

Eu sei que “Uma pitada de amor“ (Recipe for love, em inglês), não é o título mais interessante que existe, mas esse livro é pura fofura. Nele vamos conhecer Zoe Harper, uma concorrente em um reality show de culinária, onde os participantes ficam todos em uma casa no interior da Inglaterra <3 e competem pelo prêmio em dinheiro. O sonho da Zoe é ganhar a competição e abrir sua própria delicatéssen com o prêmio. De todas as complicações que ela imaginou enfrentar, a única que ela não esperava era se apaixonar por um dos jurados!!! :O

O livro é cheio de “receitas“ deliciosas (dica: leiam comendo, riri), e as cenas da competição te deixam mesmo torcendo como se fosse um episódio de Masterchef! Tem os concorrentes bacanas, pra quem você torce; tem os babacas que você odeia, mas cozinham super bem; e tem os que apenas não deviam estar lá, e você fica torcendo pra irem embora logo. 

Os meus personagens favoritos são sem dúvida Rupert e Fenella, os donos da casa onde se passa o reality show. São muito apaixonadinhos e muito “gente como a gente” (do jeitin que eu gosto ;D), daqueles que você quer materializar na vida real e chamar pra jantar na sua casa. Eu leria fácil fácil um spin-off com eles *.* 

A autora, Katie Fforde, já escreveu vários outros romancinhos (“Amor nas entrelinhas” também foi publicado no Brasil ) e é fundadora da Katie Fforde Bursary, uma espécie de bolsa para escritores iniciantes participarem da Romantic Novelists’Associaton (uma associação que promove ficção romântica!). Achei sensacional a iniciativa ☺

Audiobook recommendations - Romance

I wanted to share a couple of Romance audiobook recommendations here today.

Both are by my favourite romance author Katie Fforde. Enjoy!

Living Dangerously - this is (if I remember right) Katie Fforde's first novel - and it is definitely the most raunchy of the lot (that I have read anyway). But it is never crude as a story, instead the NSFW scenes are actually written rather sweetly (and is definitely spicy). There is also some cruder language here than I have seen in her other works (definitely NSFW), but if you can look past it, this is a great read.

Practically Perfect - my favourite Katie Fforde (and one I have read and re-read many many times over the years). This one is a very sweet read - although a slight trigger warning - there is a fire which involves some dogs, the dogs are fine. But beyond that it is Katie's typical (and fantastic) plot of an artsy woman (in this case an interior designer) meeting her essential opposite and falling in love. It also includes a very sweet greyhound (s), so something for the dog lovers to enjoy as well.

Both of them have great narrators, and are well worth a listen. Just make sure you are ok with the fire/dogs before listening (or reading) Practically Perfect (I know it really set my anxiety off the first time I read it).

But overall both are 10/10 books and well worth your time!

A summer at sea / Katie Fforde

Na de zoveelste aanvaring met een huisarts over thuisbevallingen, besluit vroedvrouw Emily dat ze even weg moet van haar werk. Ze gaat naar Schotland om daar de hele zomer als kok te werken op een stoomboot waarmee tochten worden gemaakt, om haar vriendin Rebecca te helpen die wegens haar zwangerschap dat werk niet meer kan doen. Hoewel Emily stug volhoudt dat ze na de zomer weer teruggaat naar haar 'echte' leven, zijn er steeds meer dingen in Schotland -- en mensen, zoals de lokale huisarts en zijn dochtertje -- die het afscheid moeilijk maken.

'So,' said Emily, desperate to change the subject, 'Kate has a teddy who has to be knitted for. I'm hoping to get this scarf done quickly, before I go home.' Suddenly Emily wanted to knit very slowly, as if she wouldn't have to go home until the scarf was done. Although an exchange of emails with her future boss had told her that time was ticking away fast. 'You're not going home just yet,' said Rebecca firmly. 'You've got plenty of time to finish the scarf. You've got, what…?' 'A couple of weeks. I thought I could stretch it for a bit longer but now they want me as soon as possible.' 'That soon? I know you'd told me but I somehow blanked it out of my mind.' 'I think I had too, in some ways.' The women exchanged anguished glances. Unaware of their reaction, Valerie went on, 'Plenty of time to finish the scarf then. It's very small. Are you going to do it all in Fair Isle or just the ends?'

Niet verrassend, maar leuk genoeg.

It's party time!

Gosh, what a roller-coaster of a ride I’ve been on since Murder Among the Roses was released last month. It started with a blog tour and the book shot up to  No 1 in Noir Crime on Amazon with a lovely Bestseller flag. And it was a “Hot New Release” surrounded by Richard Osman. And the reviews!
