In a world without quirks, your quiet life is upended in the best way possible when your childhood best friend, Mina Ashido, moves in next door.
Her return brings familiar comfort and chaotic joy, but it also brings her college friend group.
A cyclone of personalities you never asked for but are suddenly immersed in.
Among them is Katsuki Bakugou, a prodigy boxer whose explosive personality and focused ambition make him stand out to you more than you'd admit.
The attraction is immediate, a clash of sharp tongues and charged glances.
He’s married to his career, you’re drowning in university deadlines. A relationship is the last thing either of you wants or has time for.
So, you make a deal.
A single, simple condition to deal with the undeniable, unspoken thing between you.
No strings. No feelings. Just stress relief.
It works. Until it doesn't.
In the comfort of his apartment or yours, the world narrows down to the heat of his skin against yours, his fingers tracing patterns that feel like promises, his mouth a brand that seals away the outside world.
It was supposed to be simple. But in the quiet moments between the frantic touches and the late nights, you both failed to realize the line you drew was fading and the rule you created was the first one you'd ever break.
Summary - Reader is forced to pick a spouse to rule the kingdom with but you already have your mind on a certain blonde haired knight.
Warnings - Forced marriage.
The castle walls laid bare as every maid and servant were called to the throne room. That day was the day princess Y/N was to pick her suitor to rule alongside her.
Sighing in boredom, you wait out the preparations for the choosing ceremony. Watching maids hang up decorations, laying down cloths on tables to prepare for the feast to come. Queen L/N walks up to you, patting your head affectionately.
“Be excited about this! After this you’ll finally be ready to take over the throne.” She says grinning widely at you. Rolling your eyes, you continue sitting on your mini throne next your parents. You had been dreading this moment for a long time coming, not understanding the need to have a suitor yet, you were only 20 after all.
As well as your heart was already set on someone, someone who protected you for years. But the gods were cruel and made him fall for another, one of the queens personal maids. They were to get married this weekend, you were of course invited but you thought twice about attending.
“Yes mum, I’m sooo excited to get married to some rando prince from a far away kingdom. My dream actually!” You say sarcasm lacing your voice. Your mum quirks an eyebrow and rolls her eyes. “Come on Y/N you can’t be treated like a child for any longer, it’s time to grow up and be the queen you were destined to be”
You didn’t care too much about being queen, only the thought of how you will be ruling with a dumbass king who will probably be cheating on you with all the maids in the castle. But if you were to rule alongside your childhood crush, Bakugou Katsuki things would be different.
Shrugging off that last thought, you take a deep breath in and mentally prepare yourself. At least maybe your new husband will be handsome, perhaps charitable? Before you could think anymore a maid trots up to you. “Miss Y/N! It’s time for us to get you ready for the ceremony if you were to follow me please”
You get up from your spot and follow the maid to your quarters, misery bubbling in your chest.

Meanwhile Bakugo had just finished deciding his flower arrangements with his soon- to be wife Uraraka. They had grown close during a battle in which Uraraka was assigned to be one of the many medics. Bakugo had been injured during a sword fight and the only medic nearby was her.
For a good portion of his life he had always liked you, maybe even loved. But he forbade himself from ever telling you, as a knight and princess of his own kingdom would unfortunately never work out. Meeting Uraraka and luckily finding a few things in common was god send. He thought she was his last chance at the opportunity to have a normal life and grow a family. He would have much rather someone else he knew.. but certainly his chances with them would be 0%.
“Honey.. are you sure about those flowers? I much prefer the lillie’s.” Uraraka says, hands on her hips as she examines the flower choices her fiance had picked. “Yes i’m fucken sure about the flower choices.. just trust me for once will ya!” Tears pricked Uraraka’s version as she runs away, hands picking up her long skirt. “Wait! I didn’t mean- shit”
Rubbing his temples in frustration, Bakugo groaned loudly. He shouldn’t have been so angry with her, after all. She’s his ticket to a normal life. But he can’t help the boiling anger rising to the top, everything about his feelings for her were fake. He would rather have her as a close friend but he was already reaching an age where finding a suitable lady to marry would be hard.
A loud clattering sound invades his deep thoughts as another knight comes into view. “Sir Katsuki, Princess L/N would like to see you at once.” Bakugos heart launches into his throat. He hadn’t seen you since he had proposed, you had been constantly avoiding him.
“Okay. I’ll be on my way soon sir” The knight nodded firmly and retreated back to whatever he was doing. Bakugo straightened his posture and begin his journey to your room.

Banging from your door interrupted your hair braiding process. You sigh, putting down your hairbrush.
“Come in.”
You glance to see Katsuki entering, his piercing red eyes looking at you with confusion. His mouth opens to say something but ultimately closes as his mind races to find the right words. But before he can you get up from your vanity and walk towards him, cupping his cheeks gently.
Your fingers lightly move across his scars. He sighs contently, before moving your hands off him. “We shouldn’t get too close” he squeezes his fist in anger, he shouldn’t say or do anything with you day before his marriage. He might have feelings for you but they became out of question when Uraraka entered his life.
“Why have you been avoiding me? I mean I care a lot about you and-“
You look down and scrunch your eyes shut. “I wasn’t meaning to avoid you” Your feelings threaten to spill out. “I just wanted to tell you, that you’re invited to the private ball after my ceremony. It’s invite only”
He nods his head slowly, you can’t have brought him all the way here to tell him about some stupid party?
“Are you sure?.. I feel like there’s another reason. Please tell me it feels like shit, knowing somethings wrong with us” The way he looks at you with such love and concern, makes what your going to say next even harder.
“It DOESNT matter why or even if i’m avoiding you squire. I am your next queen and our personal affairs end today if you cannot accept that.”
Bakugo feels his heart fall, it seems like you had grown out of the childhood soft spot you had for each other. He didn’t want it to end like this but he had no choice. “Yes ma’am. Bakugo takes his leave after, no longer feeling strong enough to be in your presence.
You walk to your large glass window, looking out towards the night sky. A tears cascade from your eyes, you never wanted to talk to Bakugo like that but, you had no choice. You were to pick your new husband soon and couldn’t be found crushing after a knight.
You sat there, holding his hand, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest, guarding the fragile peace he had fought so hard to keep.
You brought his fingers to your lips and pressed another soft kiss against them. Your lips were chapped, but you didn't care.
You closed your eyes, the familiar, crushing weight of self-annihilation pressing down on you. You were late again. You couldn't save him. You couldn't protect him. Wasn't that your purpose? So why did you keep failing?
Hot, silent tears tracked down your cheeks once more and you mentally scolded yourself for the constant crying. Useless.
"Hey..."
The hand in yours tightened, just a fraction.
The raspy, breathy voice made you flinch. Your eyes flew open. He was awake, watching you through heavy lids. His deep crimson eyes were dull, the usual fiery sheen stolen by pain and exhaustion.
"Oh, Katsuki..." Your voice broke as you held his hand tighter, as if you could physically tether him to this world.
He squeezed back with a soft, reassuring pressure. "Why you cryin', dumbass...?" he asked, his voice a dry whisper, his gaze dropping to your joined hands as if the effort of holding it was too much.
"I'm not..." you weakly protested, a wet, half-laugh, half-sob bubbling in your throat.
He let out a faint huff of air. The ghost of a laugh, before grimacing sharply as the movement jarred his broken body. But his grip on your hand never loosened.
"How are you feeling?" you asked, your voice soft in the quiet room.
He let out a low hum, a non-committal sound that spoke volumes about his pain. Then, his tired crimson eyes found yours again, a silent question in their depths. How are you?
"Good, good. I am okay. I'm okay," you repeated, the words as much for yourself as for him, trying to drill the reassurance into your own frayed nerves.
He closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them to stare at your face, as if memorizing your features in the dim light. "'m still tired," he mumbled, the words slurring with exhaustion.
You nodded, your heart aching. "Yes, you need so much rest now." You moved to stand up, to give him the silence and space he needed to heal.
His hand tightened around yours instantly, a surprisingly strong grip for someone so broken. "Don't go yet..." The words were out before he could stop them, raw and unguarded. He tried to cover it up, to scowl, to mutter something gruff, but he was too tired. The attempt failed miserably.
You sat back down immediately, the chair creaking softly. "Okay..." you whispered.
A sense of peace seemed to settle over him. He let his eyes fall shut with a soft, contented mumble you couldn't quite catch. "Okay..." he breathed out and just like that, he was asleep again, his hand still firmly holding yours.
He didn't need words. He just needed you there. Your presence was a shield, a quiet promise that he wasn't alone in the dark. And for now, that was enough.
He pulled up to the agency and put the car in park. You went to unbuckle your seatbelt, but the release button jammed.
"It's stuck," you said, frustration creeping into your voice as you fumbled with it.
"Stop squirming," he ordered, his voice low. He had already unclipped his own belt and leaned across the center console, invading your space.
He reached for the buckle near your hip, his movement bringing him impossibly close. The scent of his cologne, a little faint, musky and clean cotton, enveloped you.
You froze, every nerve ending alight. His temple brushed against your cheekbone, a whisper of contact that sent a jolt straight through you.
Your breath hitched. He fiddled with the mechanism for a moment, his knuckles brushing against the fabric of your suit. The click of the release was unnaturally loud in the tense silence.
"Need to get that fixed," he murmured, his voice a husky whisper that seemed to vibrate in the scant space between you. His warm breath, smelling faintly of mint, ghosted across your skin.
He didn't pull away.
Your eyes locked. The world outside the car windows faded into a blur. Your lips parted, but no sound came out. You were trapped in the gravity of his gaze. His eyes, dark and intense, dropped to your mouth. You watched, mesmerized, as his tongue darted out to wet his own lips. The sheen pink of his lips made you burn up as you felt a knot forming in your gut.
The air was so thick you could barely breathe. The world had shrunk to the space between your two faces.
The sharp, intrusive ringtone of his phone shattered the moment. He jerked back as if electrocuted.
"Fuck..." he whispered, clearing his throat roughly and fumbling for his phone. The spell was broken, but the air in the car remained thick, charged with everything that had almost happened.
"It's fine," you whispered, the lie tasting like piss on your tongue. You looked away, focusing on a crack in the ceiling. "You don't have to explain. It's your business. I don't care."
The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating.
"Look at me," he said, his voice soft but firm.
You hesitated, then slowly dragged your gaze back to his. The intensity in his crimson eyes stole the air from your lungs. He saw right through you. He always did.
"You're a shitty liar," he murmured, his thumb stroking your knuckle. "I could see it on your face all night. Every time she touched me."
You didn't think. Your mind was fried, so was your heart. All that existed was the warmth of his breath, the intoxicating closeness, the smell of his cologne mixed with the clean, familiar scent of his skin. You felt the warmth of his breath hit your face, and it was so raw, so real, you couldn't help yourself.
You leaned forward, your eyes fluttering closed and tried to cover the small, agonizing gap between you, wanting to press your lips to his.
A gentle, firm hand came up, his fingers softly pressing against your lips, holding you back.
Your eyes shot open in shock and instant, mortifying humiliation. You tried to pull back, but his other hand, held the back of your head fast.
"No," he whispered, his voice pained. "Not like this. Not when you're drunk and hurt and not thinking straight."
The rejection stung, hot and immediate. You flinched back, hurt flashing across your face.
Seeing your reaction, his expression softened into something unbearably tender.
"I want to," he said, his thumb moving to stroke your cheek.
"God, you have no idea how much I want to. But I want it to be real. I want you to remember it. I want it to be when you're looking at me with your eyes, not the damn champagne."
You let out a pathetic whine you could not control, the sound raw and vulnerable in the quiet room.
He didn't pull away. Instead, he cradled your jaw, his thumb rubbing your bottom lip in a slow, hypnotic caress.
He stared down, his breath hitching, yours stopping almost completely. He rubbed the lingering, almost vanished lipgloss from your lips, the color staining the pad of his thumb. Then, in a move that stole every thought from your head, he brought his finger to his own lips, holding your gaze as he deliberately smeared the color onto his bottom lip.
You gasped, unable to move or think.
"There," he murmured, his voice a low, rough vibration. "Happy?"
You stared, mouth agape, as the shiny gloss made his pink lips glow in the dim light.
He sighed softly and rubbed his thumb over your cheekbone before standing up. A sharp, panicky pain lanced through you at the distance and you tugged weakly at his hand. "Don't go..." you whispered, your voice too hoarse for anything else.
He froze, looking back at you. He took your hand and gently pried your fingers loose. But instead of letting go, he brought it to his lips, placing a closed-eye, lingering kiss on your knuckles. "I'm not."
He placed your hand back at your side with such gentleness that you were glass. "You're bleeding. Let me help..." His voice was low and deep, a promise and a command. You didn't care about the cut. You just wanted him to keep talking. You nodded. "Okay."

Currently writing a katsuki bakugou x fem!reader where she is teamed up with the explosive (and infuriatingly attractive) Dynamight, hunting monsters that aren't monsters, unraveling a cult's ancient secrets and trying to ignore the fact that her near-death experience seems to have blasted a hole in his usual scowling armor.
