KATT ANON asked: I hate myself for this one, but the Simmons kids are in danger? I really wanted to see this on the show.
They knew it was a possibility. Something happening to the kids. Kristy and Matt had it in their ‘just in case’ plans, and because of their careers, it was possible. It didn’t mean she ever wanted it to happen. However, it did, and it hit her harder than ever. Rose, and the twins had been with her parents thankfully, so it was the boys, unfortunately. Her sweet boys. She knew the BAU would handle it. She knew that, but Kristy wished there was more that she could have done.
As their mom, she was one of the main people in their lives, and she tried to shelter them from a lot of the hard things both she and Matt dealt with in their jobs. Matt dealt with all kinds of death, and trauma, and criminals at every level. Kristy dealt with the emotional state of families, and fighting for their best interest, and the odd criminal in the mix. She looked at Matt’s career with so much more sympathy. She was certain his job was way harder than hers was.
But, because of those choices, now her boys were in trouble. She was certain that Emily almost agreed to allow her to come with them, if she’d stay in the vehicle until the boys were out safe. Rossi intervened, and said it would be better if she stayed at Quantico, just in case the situation got worse. In which case, worse could have meant severely injured or….
She couldn’t bear to think of it like that.
Instead, she was pacing in the bullpen, waiting to hear the ding of thd elevator, and she was so worried, the red head was surprised that she hadn’t thrown up yet. Her mom had come with Rose, Chloe and Lily, mostly so Rose could feed. She’d only sent enough milk for about a day, so soon enough it had been out.
'Aunty 'Nelope’ was more than happy to show the twins her lair, with all of her pens and collectable cute things, so that Kristy could chat with her mom for a few minutes. She’d blamed herself and Matt had blamed himself, though, truly, it was neither of their faults. That had to be the hardest thing. It wasn’t their fault.
She sat at Matt’s desk, looking at the last family picture they had, running her fingers over David’s cheek, and brushing over Jake’s hair. Not knowing was the worst, most gut-wrenching feeling; not knowing who was hurt, or or if everyone was still alive. The overwhelming rush of guilt knocked the air out of her lungs and she broke, tears bursting past her lids and streaking down her cheeks. How did she let this happen?
After nineteen agonizing hours of being at Quantico, and two take out meals she barely ate, (thankfully the twins ate their fair share), Kristy finally got the phonecall that the boys were safe, but Jake was in the worst condition, after attempting to fight back to protect his brother.
When she finally could speak, Kristy gritted her teeth, and swallowed hard. “I hope you shot the sonofabitch. I’ll meet you at the hospital.”
Once she got there, Jake was just getting his arm set so they could cast it, and David was getting a couple stitches on his cheek. Kristy hugged Matt, opening sobbing, trying to regain her composure and failing miserably. “Oh thank God. Thank you, I love you.” She finally mumbled in quick succession, as Matt did his best to soothe her. Tara and Rossi were quick to meet them, and make sure everyone was okay, and Kristy moved to hug Rossi too. “I’m so grateful for all of you being in our lives. I hope you know that.”
She prayed they’d never have to go through it again.
