Questions for the author tag
I was tagged by @forlornraven; thank you!
1. Who has the darker backstory, your protagonist or your antagonist?
Oh, definitely the antagonists. It’s “we were forgotten and started to fade out of existence and subsequently allowed ourselves to be used and manipulated” vs. “well I was born and everyone loved me.” Really no contest.
2. What creeps out your main character?
Kayram is not a fan of slimy things that aren’t alive. Like, she’s good with worms and frogs and slugs and whatnot because they’re Good Dirt Friends but when vegetables come up unidentifiably slimy, it grosses her right the hell out.
3. How long have you been working on your latest WIP?
I’ve been working on Kreah since seventh grade, so five, six-ish years?
Unless by “latest” you mean the one I most recently started, in which case A Summer Rose began last December, so about six months.
4. Which character is most like you and why?
That’s a tough question to answer. I try to put a bit of myself into all my characters, but never all that much. I’d say Kayram is closest, though, I can relate to her just wanting to help and love the world even when she doesn’t understand what’s going on or what she can do about it.
5. What genre is your latest WIP?
(Again, unless “latest” means “newest,” in which case A Summer Rose is a historical romance)
6. What’s your main character’s idea of a perfect date?
7. If your main character was an animal, what would it be and why?
A sheep! It’s Kayram’s sacred animal, because it’s Trikhar’s primary livestock and she is, after all, the agriculture goddess.
8. What books/films/songs have influenced your WIP, if any?
I?? Honestly don’t know. I’m not gonna be like “I have no influences, I work in a creative vaccuum,” but nothing comes to mind. I know I’ve talked about my love of ancient history influencing Kreah, and that one article about how agriculture was a mistake.
9. What annoying writing habit do you have (i.e. too many commas, too many long sentences, etc.)?
Em-dashes plague my existence. I also tend to overuse anaphora and to start every paragraph in dialogue-heavy scenes with either dialogue or a character’s name/pronoun.
10. Describe your WIP in one sentence.
A field goddess born in the wake of the agricultural revolution must protect mortals from old, forgotten gods who haunt them.
Or, to be less Official Tagline-y: Old gods start to fade away and turn evil in a desperate attempt to stay alive, and now the remaining gods (and one new one) have to stop them from wiping out mortals.
Anyone who wants to answer these can go ahead and consider themselves tagged!
