So, just to be clear about the KCVO:
On the top is the badge on the ribbon and on the bottom is the star. (this is actually a photo of Harry’s, released by KP)
This is the RVO Medal. It is normally worn by Lieutenants, Commanders, and Members. They do not have a badge or a star.
Knights Commander (Harry) and Knights Grand Cross wear the badge and star. The Knights Commander wear the badge on a ribbon around their necks and the Kings Grand Cross wear the badge on a sash.
Here are all of the ways that I can think of that Harry has worn his KCVO:
1. uniform, badge, and star
2. uniform and badge
3. uniform and star
4. tuxedo, badge, star, and medal (CHOGM)
5. tuxedo, medal, and star (Fiji)
6. tuxedo and medal (Tonga):
7. suit, regimental tie, and badge
I think that’s everything...
What piece(s) of the KCVO puzzle he wears depends on what he’s wearing and where he’s going. Him wearing the RVO medal still confuses me, particularly the inconsistency of what he wears when he’s wearing a tux, as he’s worn it three different ways and that’s the only time he ever wears the medal.
So yeah. I’m not a military, honor, or medal person, but I hope this helped clear some stuff up.
