This Day in Buster…November 26, 1925
The Messenger-Inquirer says of Buster Keaton’s latest movie: “The frozen-faced farceur romps through screeningly funny situations, revolving around a young man who starts out to see the world via the boxcar route, in the inimitably Keatonesque manner, ‘Go West’ unquestionably is Buster’s most hilarious photoplay.”

Last weekend The international Buster Keaton Society made a pretty cool announcement on their FB-page. In their newest revision The Oxford English Dictionary officially recorded ‘Keatonesque’ as a word in the English language! As part of some hundred newly added cinema-related words, Buster Keaton could not be omitted.
‘Keatonesque’, they say, typically refers to Keaton’s famous deadpan expression and penchant for physical comedy.
Isn’t it wonderful. To think: to be so very special and unique and unforgettable that you not only keep influencing your own craft long after you’re gone, but that you add to other fields as well! To become a word that’s deemed important in it’s own right.
Well now that Buster is a word, let’s try to use it a lot! Let’s hope that in ten years time parents will say their children played so cute and keatonesque on the playground. Or that recipes add that whisking eggs is best done keatonesque. Or... Wouldn’t the whole world be a bit better off, if everyone was just a touch more keatonesque?

there’s a moment when the curse connects that is made up of raw agony, white - hot in the center of his chest. for an instant that is likely only a second but seems to stretch into eternity, he is suspended there, cerulean hues boring into those of a wizard who’s smirking, obviously proud to be the one to take down the head auror, and then all at once theseus is on his knees, pain spreading all throughout rather than his chest alone. there are arms around him in the next instant. he’s not sure who they belong to at first, only that they are gentle and warm and there’s no hard ground rising up to meet his back, only that same body as he’s dragged onto their lap.
just, just hang on, thes, don’t you make me bury you, don’t you dare die on me.
somehow, when his head lolls back and eyes reach the face above him, he doesn’t expect to see his brother. newt, who is crying, all terrified hazel eyes and stumbling words that are near inaudible over the roar of the fight raging on around them. newt, who should not even be here, who always manages to find himself in situations he should be far some. newt, the last thing theseus has left in this world to protect, to hold close. newt, the brother he loves more than nearly anything in the world. newt, who has already lost so much, who will have to sacrifice just one more person.
he’ll be alright in time. he has to be, but here and now, it pierces to theseus’s very soul to know that he is causing him such pain.
“ you have to get out of here. ” the words are slurred, his tongue heavy as lead in his mouth, and they don’t come out right. “ you can’t die for me, you have to… ”
i love you, i'm sorry i never said it sooner but i love you and i'm proud of you and i'm proud to be your brother, so hang on. newt’s words are still barely audible, drowned in the sounds of battle, of shouts and spells being thrown, blurred by tears, but he catches most of them. merlin, he can’t leave newt like this, so devastated, hopeless.
what other choice does he have? theseus made his final choice the moment he left the ministry to lead his aurors here. his aurors, surely dying as well. jordan, even, had fallen near the beginning. just another weight, another death, another fault to join the others on theseus’s shoulders.
“ i’m so proud of you. ” at any rate, that is what he intends to say – it still comes out heavy and slurred, but he hopes newt understands. by the look on his face, he thinks he does, but it is growing ever harder to focus and he knows he is growing heavy in newt’s arms as eyes threaten to close, blackness swarming his vision. i didn’t tell you that enough, newt. i’m so sorry. why hadn’t he made sure newt had known that? “ i love you. so much, newt. ” words are mumbled, lids finally drooping shut.
there are so many more things he wishes to say as his voice fails him, and no more time. if he could, he would tell newt just how proud he is of him, would thank him for everything he’s done for him since leta’s death. apologize for not being a better brother, for allowing the distance that had grown between them, for pressuring him to settle at a ministry desk job if only because he selfishly wanted him safe. assure him that he will survive this, that he is strong, he will be fine. he would wish him well once more on the beastly quests he undertakes in the future, as he had signed off so many letters. none of these things are meant to be. the power of speech fails him entirely, and in the next instant the blackness overtakes him entirely, head collapsing to the left to fall against his brother’s chest as his body sags abruptly, limp and utterly still.

Well someone, I mean Morgs here, really. So usually in the cases where I don’t know the other person, I take a read through on your blog to get a sense of who you are, to really send some personalized love your way. So! I hope it’s okay, but I did just that!
Now for you, you seem like such a genuinely funny person! I was reading through some of your ooc meme responses to people and like I probably laughed like 3 times out loud as I did. You got such a good sense of humour and seem so genuinely down to earth, I can see why people reach out to you looking for that kinda fresh hot take on things. So hey man, here’s to you being a wicked awesome soul!
I mean I can’t even delve into how much I love love love Harry Potter and it’s contained universe because this post will be a mess, but I wanna say shout outs to you for playing such a funny and awesome character, because I can definitely see you being a light on the dash for so many souls. Your style of writing is also so fresh, and I gotta say, the HP community is so damn lucky to have you!

v: fantastic beasts and the blood of the valois
Thousands of years ago, the House of Valois ruled France as Kings. But within their bloodlines were also those who had the gift of magic, and it wasn’t long before royal families across Europe made a secret pact that those of magical blood in royal families would not only never succeed to any thrones in the muggle world, but also live separate lives and never be counted in any official family trees.
Eventually the secrecy and separation became permanent when the International Statute of Secrecy was established in 1692. At that point, the magical branch of the House of Valois, descending from the youngest son of Charles V, had already spent thousands of years living in secrecy.
Despite the dissolution of the monarchy in France by the end of the 1800s, the magical House of Valois is still looked to by many as royalty and of course, pure-blood. And it’s because of this, that the birth of one Sebastian “Bash” Valois, became a huge scandal for the family.
The heir to the House of Valois, Henri, had married Catalina of the House of Medici, an ancient Italian pure-blood family. But his eyes wandered and soon became infatuated with a muggle-born witch, Deanne Ponthieux. Their union very soon produced a child, Sebastian, born on December 22, 1896.
When the families of Valois and Medici found out about Deanne’s pregnancy, there was a huge uproar. Confrontations and clashes went on for many months of the pregnancy. The Valois were pure-bloods for thousands of years, and the fact that the heir of their house had consorted with a “mudblood” was unthinkable. To the pure-bloods, a child of that union had tainted blood and was unworthy. The House of Medici argued for mother and child both be obliviated and banished away to the muggle world. But the Valois are still royalty, and royal blood speaks power. Soon it was decided that the child would remain with the House of Valois and be raised as such, after all, he did have royal blood. But the mother, Deanne, was obliviated after giving birth, and sent away, having no more memory of her child or the love she shared with Henri.
Bash was raised at the Valois Estate along with Henri and Catalina’s true-born pure-blood children, much to Catalina’s distaste. No one speaks of his mother’s true identity, most family members only refer to her as “that wretched mudblood”. And despite Bash loving his younger siblings, it was always made sure that he would never forget that he was less than them, for he was the bastard child born of a “mudblood”, never truly worthy of anything. Perhaps because of this treatment, Bash never bought into his family’s pure-blood obsession.
At the age of eleven, Bash was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He would meet a fellow first-year named Newt Scamander on the Hogwarts Express after some run-in with some bullies. The two would become friends, with Bash joining Newt in Hufflepuff House and living in the same dormitory. And while Bash was happy in Hufflepuff, his sorting marked another stain upon his family, for the Valois have always been in Slytherin. It wasn’t long before rumors and whispers would follow him around school, and his holidays home with his family became even more miserable than before. Despite having his father’s favor and affection, Bash was often punished and mistreated for what various family members deemed to be insubordination on his part, the most especially from his angry grandparents.
Bash sought to break away from his family’s control, but it was difficult, for the Valois doesn’t let go very easy. It wasn’t until World War 1 began and many wizards went against orders to join the fight that Bash took his chance. He served as scout and tracker, for he always had a gift for such areas of magic. And when the war was over, he joined the Ministry as a Hit-Wizard, eventually serving under Torquill Travers in Magical Law Enforcement.
But with the rise of Grindelwald in Europe, this presented a huge issue for Bash. His family was more than swayed by Grindelwald’s message, in many ways, they were his secret supporters. This ended up casting a huge suspicion on Bash’s loyalties, which many, including Travers, questioned. Eventually, Bash was fired from the Ministry after he punched Travers in the face.
Knowing his family would be all too happy to see him back home under their control so they can make him fall in line, Bash took a curse breaker job with Gringotts Wizarding Bank so he could travel the world, occasionally alerting his old friend Newt to magical creatures for him to save.
