okay so I am a Greek mythology nerd and I LOVE the profusion of Greek mythology-inspired Broadways and TV shows and whatnot but I need to know where my non-Western mythology adaptations are
because TELL ME TO MY FACE you wouldn't cry your heart out over a broadway of the Ramayana (as an Indonesian I will give you bonus points if the chorus and voicing is similar to the Kecak Dance setting)
where are my Egyptian mythology sitcoms??? the ballet tragedies about Chang'e and Hou Yi??? period dramas about Filipino deities??? (and period dramas about precolonial kingdoms in general)
let me tell you I would FLIP TABLES to see a dance production centered around the Red Strings of Fate where it's all traditional Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese dance setting and staging (depending on which interpretation you're following obviously) but you can see the red strings connecting dancers, trailing from costumes, dangling from the ceilings (acrobats??? could be amazing for this??? two lovers suspended by the same set of red silks???)
apologies for not saying anything about Latin American and African tales/cultures but I don't know enough about them to propose creative ideas
