HELLO I do have a question (and I feel vaguely bad for dragging The RoyJamie Agenda into your Isaac & Roy fic because I think that Roy having meaningful relationship with other players – and Isaac in particular! – is A Very Important Thing, but I am also just a weak fangirl and I Must Know). In a world where there’s a group chat for the various partners and wives of the players and Roy and Jamie get together, will Roy be part of that group chat?

TO ME Roy wouldn't be in the WAG group chat because he's a coach (later the manager which is WORSE.) I believe that chat has to partly function as a safe space for the players' partners to say shit like "I can't believe my husband has to train on Christmas day" or "We're missing our wedding anniversary because he has to travel to Liverpool and he's not even in the matchday squad!" and I think Roy being in there would only ultimately result in a different chat springing up that's just Everyone But Roy.

However. I think it'd be very funny if a few years down the road Roy and Jamie ended up working at different clubs / Roy took a few years off from football altogether. And they both felt safe enough to be out to Jamie's teammates and their families... and Roy was in THAT partners' group chat. That would be funny. 10 instagram influencers, 10 longtime childhood sweethearts, and Roy Kent ™

The suit was nice; charcoal grey with a subtle black pattern that would show up well in photos but didn't draw the eye like the vibrant monstrosity being fitted around Jamie's frame.

"See, told you it would look good," he encouraged, catching the eyes of Roy's reflection in his own mirror while obediently lifting his arms for the tailor. "It won't kill you to be seen in something more interesting than a black suit."

Roy rolled his eyes and grunted, unwilling to offer any more agreement than that. Jamie grinned anyway and asked one of the shop assistants to bring out the ties.

6. Verbal “I love yous” or nonverbal “I love yous”?

So I think nonverbal I love yous are just, how they live their lives. Always doing things, big and little, for each other. The verbal I love yous are much fewer and farther between which I think makes them more… meaningful? impactful? special? I think those three words are reserved for when they want to be completely clear to the other, no room for interpretation, that I love you.

Moments like, at the border. Ian needs Mickey to know without a doubt that he loves him even though he can’t go with him. In prison. Ian needs Mickey to know why he’d be okay throwing his parole. I wanna be where you are, Mickey. I love you. Mickey needs Ian to know that it’s okay if he gets released. I know, I love you too and I’ll get out soon and come back to you. The wedding is falling apart. Look, I love you. I love you.

They speak those words when they don’t want to leave any room for doubt and I think those words hold a lot of weight for both of them.

22. Ian comforting Mickey or Mickey comforting Ian?

Mickey being able to comfort Ian is so, so beautiful to me. He was never taught how to comfort - it was never given to him personally and it was never shown as an example in front of him. It is innate to him as a person and he loves Ian so much it just pours out of him.

35. Ian manhandling Mickey or thumb caresses?

As much as I believe Mickey loves being manhandled, the fact that he allows Ian to be tender with him, in turn being tender back to Ian, punches me right in the gut.

The Milkovichs’ violent knuckle tats prove what they thought hands were good for. After years of that “kiss me and I’ll cut your fuckin’ tongue out” and “say that again and I’ll rip your tongue outta your head” facade he puts up, finally letting his walls crumble and realizing he also adores being touched with soft, gentle hands is so lovely. I love that Ian showed him that hands were for more than beating people up. One of my favorite things is seeing Mickey’s hands, “fuck u-up” boldly displayed, as he caresses Ian’s face, runs his fingers through Ian’s hair, or holds onto his waist.

37. “You are so much better than that” or “Mickey’s family”?

I think Ian telling Mickey “you are so much better than that” is a huge moment. All these years that he’s been out from under Terry’s thumb, away from his rein of terror, and he still questions himself. If he’s worthy. If he’s good.

Those were words he needed to hear. He is nothing like Terry. He is good.

And I think Ian physically stopping him, holding onto him, making sure he was looking him in the eye when he said it was so important. Ian didn’t just casually say, “Oh, yeah, don’t worry about him, you’re better than that, blah, blah.” It was intentional and clear and direct - “You are so much better than that.” He wanted Mickey to really know how much he meant it.

1/1 I vastly prefer canon compliant stories to AU:s – in fact, it's very, very rare that I read an AU at all. (Which is sad, becaue it limits my options quite a lot!) I guess that for me the characters are too embedded in their circumstances for me to be very interested in seeing them elsewhere? There's just no appeal: I might as well read about some other characters entirely.

Thank you! I knew your perspective already, but it’s interesting to see it spelled out like that. Really agree about them becaming the people they are because of the very specific circumstances of their lives. People can get really creative with recreating their story in a very different context, but I often read AUs where I think - hey, there’s no possible way of them being like that with the upbringing they have in this universe. But I’ll still read though, I’ll still read... :D -CJ

I agree to a (large) extent! If it’s an AU I really love to see how well it introduces their canon elements and makes it work. I’ll forgive small changes but if they make a big change to make it work, I usually lose interest. I want to be surprised by a story that doesn’t seem like it can keep those canon elements and does. And well! That’s my favorite kind of AU.

But in the end what I’m drawn to with Shameless is a lot to do with the situation surrounding the characters and show in general: They’re just a bunch of morally gray people with no money or good parental figures trying to make it work. I love to see those elements kept in -MMW

1- ha! I'm not a massive fan of public speaking or physical exercise, but I'd definitely rather go for a walk in the woods! in the autumn especially, I'd enjoy the aesthetics and taking some fresh air for a change :D

2- haha no. I'm more the sort of person to go 'well, might as well get up if you reeeally insist, world'

3- I live alone so that's my main state most of the time anyway. I guess one thing that feels liberating and I'm grateful for being able to do since I've left my parents' home is put on some of my favourite music and sing my little heart out at the top of my lungs 😁

4- I have one (1) plant, gifted to me by my mother who insisted I did something to brighten up the place and it's the kind of plant that needs Very Little maintenance to be kept alive akjsaks I am in fact not a plant person. I like the look of a lot of flowers and wouldn't mind some colourful ones around but I just can't be bothered watering them regularly and my place gets very little direct sunlight so 💔

2. Favorite thing about Ian

My favourite thing about Ian is his compassion, he just really wants to help people and it makes me soft.

3. Favorite thing about Mickey

My favourite thing about Mickey is how firecely loyal he is. Not even just with Ian, but when he decides you are family he will go to bat for you.

24. Where do you seem them in ten years?

Still very much together, happy and content.

With all the speculation about them taking over the Alibi from Kev and V and I have to say I’m not opposed to the idea at all, they have proven that they enjoy working together and have the a strong enough relationship to mange it.

However if I was able to choose anything I would love to have Ian back working in the medical field, as an an emt or an auxiliary nurse . I mean I dont think thats likely with his record but i’m choosing to ignore that.

Mickey should stay in security though he enjoys the thrill of it and hes good at it.

Ian is just so good with kids, i think down the road he will talk Mickey round and i think in 10 years they will be mature enough to handle it.

I can't find the 7x11 one anywhere though, probably because it's been too long. But it was basically this video but with the border scene instead of the prison reunion. At the time it was first released we all thought 7x11 was the end of Gallavich and Mickey so you can imagine how depressed I felt watching it lol

(Addition: There was also a statement from Noel at the end of the 7x11 video where he was like "Ian is becoming the person he wants to be but he can't be that person if he goes to Mexico with Mickey" or something like that. Which made it seem even more final.)

3. Headcanon about Ian? Headcanon about Mickey?

Why do I feel like I forget every single one I have about them as soon as someone asks haha HC about Ian...If Mickey hadn’t broken out of prison, Monica’s death would have brought him back to visit Mickey. HC about Mickey… unoriginal but he had a big ol’ gay crush on Ian pre 1x07.
